Job 21

1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 - Ma Giobbe rispose e disse:
2 Listen careful y to my words; let this be the consolation you allow me.	2 «Ascoltate, vi prego, le mie parole, e cambiate opinione.
3 Permit me to speak in my turn; you may jeer when I have spoken.	3 Tolleratemi ed io parlerò, e dopo le mie parole, se vi pare, ridete pure.
4 Is my complaint just about a fellow-mortal? I have good grounds to be perturbed!	4 Sto io forse a disputar contro un uomo, sì che io non abbia motivo d'attristarmi?
5 Give your attention to me; you wil be dumbfounded and wil place your hand over your mouth.	5 Volgetevi a me e inorridite, e mettetevi un dito sulla bocca:
6 I myself am appalled at the very thought, and my flesh creeps.	6 pur io, se vi ripenso, allibisco, e un tremore scuote le mie carni.
7 Why do the wicked stil live on, their power increasing with their age?	7 Perchè dunque gli empii vivono, s'innalzano e hanno grandi ricchezze?
8 They see their posterity assured, and their offspring secure before their eyes.	8 La loro stirpe persiste innanzi a loro, e una turba di parenti e nepoti sta al loro cospetto;
9 The peace of their houses has nothing to fear, the rod that God wields is not for them.	9 le loro case sono tranquille e in pace, nè la verga di Dio cade su loro;
10 No mishap with their bull at breeding-time, nor miscarriage with their cow at calving.	10 il loro bove va alla monta e non rifiuta, la vacca partorisce senza disperdere il feto.
11 They let their infants frisk like lambs, their children dance like deer.	11 Se non vanno qual gregge i loro ragazzi, e i loro fanciulli saltellano scherzando.
12 They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.	12 Suonano il timpano e la cetra, e fanno festa al suono del flauto.
13 They end their lives in happiness and go down in peace to Sheol.	13 Consumano nella felicità i loro giorni, quindi in pace discendono agli ìnferi.
14 Yet these are the ones who say to God, 'Go away! We do not want to learn your ways.	14 Esclamarono essi verso Dio: - Va' lungi da noi; la dottrina dei tuoi precetti noi non gradiamo.
15 What is the point of our serving Shaddai? What should we gain from praying to him?'	15 Chi è mai l'Onnipotente, che lo dobbiamo servire, e in che ci gioverebbe se lo pregassimo? -
16 Surely they have won their own prosperity, since God is kept so far from their plans?	16 Tuttavia, poichè essi non son padroni dei loro beni, il consiglio degli empii sia lungi da me!
17 Do we often see the light of the wicked put out, or disaster overtake him, or the retribution of Goddestroy his possessions,	17 Quante volte la lucerna degli empii si spegne, e li raggiunge l'inondazione [di tutti i mali], assegnando [Dio] i castighi dell'ira sua?
18 or the wind blow him away like a straw, or a whirlwind carry him off like chaff?	18 Dovrebbero essere come paglia al vento, e come pula dispersa dal turbine.
19 So God is storing up punishment for his children? But the wicked himself should be punished, andshould know it!	19 Dio riserba ai figli il castigo del padre: ma ripaghi lui stesso, e allora imparerà!
20 He himself should witness his own ruin, and himself drink the anger of Shaddai.	20 vedano i suoi occhi il proprio sterminio, e del furore dell'Onnipotente egli beva!
21 Once he is gone, what joy can he gain from his family, once the number of his months has been cutoff?	21 Giacchè che importa a lui di quei di casa sua dopo di sè, quando il numero dei suoi mesi [di vita], è compiuto?
22 But who can teach wisdom to God, to him who is judge of those on high?	22 Insegnerà forse qualcuno la sapienza a Dioche giudica gli eccelsi?
23 And again: one person dies in the ful ness of strength, in all possible happiness and ease,	23 Questo muore robusto e sano, ricco e pur felice,
24 thighs padded with fat and the marrow in the bones good and moist.	24 il suo corpo è tutto pinguedine, e le sue ossa son grasse di midollo:
25 Another dies in bitterness of heart, never having tasted happiness.	25 Quest'altro muore nell'amarezza d'animo, senza nessun bene;
26 They lie together down in the dust and the worms soon cover them both.	26 tuttavia insieme nella polvere giacciono, e li ricoprono i vermini.
27 Oh, I know what is in your minds, what you so spiteful y think about me!	27 Io ben conosco i vostri pensierie le vostre inique sentenze contro di me;
28 'What has become of the great lord's house,' you say, 'where is the tent where the wicked used tolive?'	28 voi infatti dite: - Ov'è mai la casa del tiranno? e ove son mai le abitazioni degli empii? -
29 Have you never questioned people who travel, do you not understand the testimony they give:	29 Ebbene, interrogate un viaggiatore qualunque, e vi convincerete ch'egli la pensa nel modo seguente:
30 on the day of disaster, the wicked is spared, on the day of retribution, he is kept safe?	30 Pel giorno di rovina il malvagio è risparmiato, e fino al giorno d'ira egli sarà tollerato.
31 And who is there then to reproach him for his deeds and to pay him back for the things he has done?	31 Chi gli rinfaccia apertamente la sua condotta? e ciò ch'ei commise, chi glielo ripaga?
32 He is carried away to the cemetery, and a watch is kept at his tomb.	32 Eppure alle sepolture [onorevoli] egli viene portato, e sul tumulo de' morti c'è chi fa la guardia.
33 The clods of the ravine lie easy on him, and the whole population walk behind.	33 Dolci sono a lui le zolle della valle [funerea]; ed egli trascina dietro a sè ogni uomo, come già prima di sè altri innumerevoli.
34 So what sense is there in your empty consolation? your answers are the left-overs of infidelity!	34 Come dunque mi consolerete con vane [ragioni], se la vostra risposta chiaramente ripugna alla verità?»
