Job 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Job spoke next. He said:	1 Giobbe prese a dire:
2 Listen careful y to my words; let this be the consolation you allow me.	2 «Ascoltate bene la mia parola e sia questo almeno il conforto che mi date.
3 Permit me to speak in my turn; you may jeer when I have spoken.	3 Tollerate che io parli e, dopo che avrò parlato, deridetemi pure.
4 Is my complaint just about a fellow-mortal? I have good grounds to be perturbed!	4 Mi lamento forse di un uomo? E perché non dovrei perdere la pazienza?
5 Give your attention to me; you wil be dumbfounded and wil place your hand over your mouth.	5 Statemi attenti e resterete stupiti, mettetevi la mano sulla bocca.
6 I myself am appalled at the very thought, and my flesh creeps.	6 Se io ci penso, rimango turbato e la mia carne è presa da un brivido.
7 Why do the wicked stil live on, their power increasing with their age?	7 Perché i malvagi continuano a vivere, e invecchiando diventano più forti e più ricchi?
8 They see their posterity assured, and their offspring secure before their eyes.	8 La loro prole prospera insieme con loro, i loro rampolli crescono sotto i loro occhi.
9 The peace of their houses has nothing to fear, the rod that God wields is not for them.	9 Le loro case sono tranquille e senza timori; il bastone di Dio non pesa su di loro.
10 No mishap with their bull at breeding-time, nor miscarriage with their cow at calving.	10 Il loro toro monta senza mai fallire, la mucca partorisce senza abortire.
11 They let their infants frisk like lambs, their children dance like deer.	11 Mandano fuori, come un gregge, i loro ragazzi e i loro figli danzano in festa.
12 They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.	12 Cantano al ritmo di tamburelli e di cetre, si divertono al suono dei flauti.
13 They end their lives in happiness and go down in peace to Sheol.	13 Finiscono nel benessere i loro giorni e scendono tranquilli nel regno dei morti.
14 Yet these are the ones who say to God, 'Go away! We do not want to learn your ways.	14 Eppure dicevano a Dio: “Allontànati da noi, non vogliamo conoscere le tue vie.
15 What is the point of our serving Shaddai? What should we gain from praying to him?'	15 Chi è l’Onnipotente, perché dobbiamo servirlo? E che giova pregarlo?”.
16 Surely they have won their own prosperity, since God is kept so far from their plans?	16 Essi hanno in mano il loro benessere e il consiglio degli empi è lontano da lui.
17 Do we often see the light of the wicked put out, or disaster overtake him, or the retribution of Goddestroy his possessions,	17 Quante volte si spegne la lucerna degli empi, e la sventura piomba su di loro, e infligge loro castighi con ira?
18 or the wind blow him away like a straw, or a whirlwind carry him off like chaff?	18 Sono essi come paglia sollevata al vento o come pula in preda all’uragano?
19 So God is storing up punishment for his children? But the wicked himself should be punished, andshould know it!	19 “Dio – si dirà – riserva il castigo per i figli dell’empio”. No, lo subisca e lo senta lui il castigo!
20 He himself should witness his own ruin, and himself drink the anger of Shaddai.	20 Veda con i suoi occhi la sua rovina e beva dell’ira dell’Onnipotente!
21 Once he is gone, what joy can he gain from his family, once the number of his months has been cutoff?	21 Che cosa gli importa infatti della sua casa quando è morto, quando il numero dei suoi mesi è finito?
22 But who can teach wisdom to God, to him who is judge of those on high?	22 S’insegna forse la scienza a Dio, a lui che giudica gli esseri celesti?
23 And again: one person dies in the ful ness of strength, in all possible happiness and ease,	23 Uno muore in piena salute, tutto tranquillo e prospero;
24 thighs padded with fat and the marrow in the bones good and moist.	24 i suoi fianchi sono coperti di grasso e il midollo delle sue ossa è ben nutrito.
25 Another dies in bitterness of heart, never having tasted happiness.	25 Un altro muore con l’amarezza in cuore, senza aver mai assaporato la gioia.
26 They lie together down in the dust and the worms soon cover them both.	26 Eppure entrambi giacciono insieme nella polvere e i vermi li ricoprono.
27 Oh, I know what is in your minds, what you so spiteful y think about me!	27 Ecco, io conosco bene i vostri pensieri e i progetti che tramate contro di me!
28 'What has become of the great lord's house,' you say, 'where is the tent where the wicked used tolive?'	28 Infatti voi dite: “Dov’è la casa del nobile, dove sono le tende degli empi?”.
29 Have you never questioned people who travel, do you not understand the testimony they give:	29 Perché non avete chiesto a chi ha viaggiato e non avete considerato attentamente le loro prove?
30 on the day of disaster, the wicked is spared, on the day of retribution, he is kept safe?	30 Cioè che nel giorno della sciagura è risparmiato il malvagio e nel giorno dell’ira egli trova scampo?
31 And who is there then to reproach him for his deeds and to pay him back for the things he has done?	31 Chi gli rimprovera in faccia la sua condotta e di quel che ha fatto chi lo ripaga?
32 He is carried away to the cemetery, and a watch is kept at his tomb.	32 Egli sarà portato al sepolcro, sul suo tumulo si veglia
33 The clods of the ravine lie easy on him, and the whole population walk behind.	33 e gli sono lievi le zolle della valle. Camminano dietro a lui tutti gli uomini e innanzi a sé ha una folla senza numero.
34 So what sense is there in your empty consolation? your answers are the left-overs of infidelity!	34 E voi vorreste consolarmi con argomenti vani! Nelle vostre risposte non c’è altro che inganno».
