Tobit 10

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Every day, meanwhile, Tobit kept reckoning the days required for the journey there and the journeyback. The full number went by, and stil his son had not come.	1 Intanto un giorno dietro l'altro Tobi faceva il conto dei giorni necessari a Tobia per l'andata e il ritorno. Quando i giorni furono al termine e il figlio non era ancora ritornato,
2 Then he thought, 'I hope he has not been delayed there! I hope Gabael is not dead, so that no one wilgive him the silver.'	2 pensò: "E' stato forse trattenuto laggiù? O forse sarà morto Gàbael e non c'era nessuno per consegnargli il denaro?".
3 And he began to worry.	3 Pertanto cominciò a rattristarsi.
4 His wife Anna kept saying, 'My son is dead! He is no longer among the living!' And she began to weepand mourn over her son. She kept saying,	4 La moglie Anna diceva: "Mio figlio è perito e non è più tra i vivi!". Cominciò a piangere e lamentarsi sul proprio figlio dicendo:
5 'Alas! I should never have let you leave me, my child, you, the light of my eyes.'	5 "Ahimè, figlio, ti ho lasciato partire, tu che sei la luce dei miei occhi".
6 And Tobit would reply, 'Hush, my sister! Do not worry. Al is wel with him. Something has happenedthere to delay them. His companion is someone we can trust, one of our kinsmen at that. Do not lose heart, mysister.	6 Tobi le rispondeva: "Taci, non stare in pensiero, sorella, egli sta bene. Certamente li trattiene là un contrattempo, perché colui che lo accompagna è un uomo fidato e uno dei nostri fratelli. Non affliggerti per lui, sorella; tra poco sarà qui".
7 He will soon be here.' But al she would say was, 'Leave me alone; do not try to deceive me. My childis dead.' And every day she would go abruptly out to watch the road by which her son had left. She trusted noeyes but her own. Once the sun had set she would come home again, only to weep and moan al night, unableto sleep. After the fourteen days of feasting that Raguel had sworn to keep for his daughter's marriage, Tobiascame to him and said, 'Let me go now; my father and mother must have lost al hope of seeing me again. So Ibeg you, father, to let me return to my father's house; I have told you the plight he was in when I left him.'	7 Ma essa replicava: "Lasciami stare e non ingannarmi! Mio figlio è perito". Ogni giorno usciva al più presto per controllare il cammino per il quale era partito il figlio, perché non si fidava di nessuno. Dopo il tramonto del sole, essa rientrava a piangere e lamentarsi per tutta la notte senza poter dormire.
8 Raguel said to Tobias, 'Stay, my son, stay with me. I shal send messengers to your father Tobit togive him news of you.'	8 Passati i quattordici giorni delle feste nuziali che Raguel con giuramento aveva stabilito di organizzare per sua figlia, Tobia andò a dirgli: "Lasciami partire, perché sono sicuro che mio padre e mia madre non hanno più speranza di rivedermi. Ti prego, dunque, padre, lasciami partire e ritornare da mio padre; ti ho già spiegato in quale situazione l'ho lasciato".
9 But Tobias pressed him, 'No, I beg you to let me go back to my father's house.'	9 Rispose Raguel a Tobia: "Resta con me, figlio, resta con me. Invierò dei messaggeri a tuo padre Tobi, perché lo informino sul tuo conto". Ma Tobia rispose: "No, no, ti prego, lasciami andare da mio padre".
10 Without more ado, Raguel committed Sarah his bride into his keeping. He gave Tobias half hiswealth, slaves, men and women, oxen and sheep, donkeys and camels, clothes and money and householdthings.	10 Allora Raguel, alzatosi, consegnò a Tobia la moglie e la metà di tutti i suoi beni: servi e serve, buoi e pecore, asini e cammelli, vesti, denaro e masserizie,
11 And so he let them leave happily. To Tobias he said these parting words, 'Good health, my son, anda happy journey! May the Lord of heaven be gracious to you and to your wife Sarah! I hope to see your childrenbefore I die.'	11 li lasciò partire sani e salvi e fece questo saluto a Tobia: "Sta' bene, o figlio, e fa' buon viaggio. Che il Signore del cielo vi guidi, te e tua moglie Sara e che io possa vedere i vostri figli prima di morire".
12 To his daughter Sarah he said, 'Go now to your father-in-law's house, since henceforward they areas much your parents as those who gave you life. Go in peace, my daughter, I hope to hear nothing but good ofyou, as long as I live.' He said goodbye to them and let them go. Edna in her turn said to Tobias, 'Dear son andbrother, may it please the Lord to bring you back again! I hope to live long enough to see the children of you andmy daughter Sarah before I die. In the sight of the Lord I give my daughter into your keeping. Never make herunhappy as long as you live. Go in peace, my son. Henceforward I am your mother and Sarah is your sister.May we al live happily for the rest of our lives!' And she kissed them both and saw them set out happily.	12 Poi disse alla figlia Sara: "Va' nella casa di tuo suocero, poiché da questo momento essi sono i tuoi genitori, come coloro che ti hanno dato la vita. Va' in pace, o figlia, e possa sentire buone notizie a tuo riguardo, finché sarò in vita". Poi li abbracciò e li lasciò partire.
13 Tobias left Raguel's house with his mind at ease. In his gladness he blessed the Lord of heaven andearth, the King of al that is, for the happy issue of his travels. He gave this blessing to Raguel and his wife Edna,'May it be my happiness to honour you for the rest of my life!'	13 A sua volta Edna disse a Tobia: "Figlio e parente carissimo, che il Signore ti riconduca a casa e possa io, finché vivo, vedere i tuoi figli e quelli di mia figlia Sara prima di morire! Davanti al Signore ti affido mia figlia in custodia. Non contristarla in nessun giorno della sua vita. Figlio, va' in pace. D'ora innanzi io sono tua madre e Sara è tua sorella. Possiamo tutti insieme avere buona fortuna tutto il tempo della nostra vita!". Dopo averli baciati tutti e due, li lasciò partire sani e salvi.
	14 Così Tobia partì da Raguel, sano, salvo e gioioso, benedicendo il Signore del cielo e della terra, il Re dell'universo, perché aveva dato buon esito al viaggio. Raguel gli disse: "Possa tu avere la fortuna di onorare i tuoi genitori tutti i giorni della tua vita".
