Tobit 10

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Every day, meanwhile, Tobit kept reckoning the days required for the journey there and the journeyback. The full number went by, and stil his son had not come.	1 Mientras tanto, Tobit contaba uno por uno los días que debía durar el viaje de ida y vuelta. Cuando se cumplió el plazo, sin que su hijo hubiera vuelto,
2 Then he thought, 'I hope he has not been delayed there! I hope Gabael is not dead, so that no one wilgive him the silver.'	2 pensó: «¿Lo habrán retenido allí? A lo mejor, ha muerto Gabael y no hay nadie que le entregue el dinero».
3 And he began to worry.	3 Y comenzó a preocuparse.
4 His wife Anna kept saying, 'My son is dead! He is no longer among the living!' And she began to weepand mourn over her son. She kept saying,	4 Ana, su mujer, decía: «¡Mi hijo ha muerto, ya no está entre los vivos!». Y se puso a llorar y a lamentarse por su hijo, diciendo:
5 'Alas! I should never have let you leave me, my child, you, the light of my eyes.'	5 «¡Qué desgracia, hijo mío! Yo te dejé ir, a ti, la luz de mis ojos!».
6 And Tobit would reply, 'Hush, my sister! Do not worry. Al is wel with him. Something has happenedthere to delay them. His companion is someone we can trust, one of our kinsmen at that. Do not lose heart, mysister.	6 Tobit le decía: «¡Tranquilízate, hermana, no pienses eso! El está bien. Habrán tenido algún contratiempo. Su compañero es persona de confianza, es uno de nuestros hermanos. No te preocupes por él. Llegará de un momento a otro».
7 He will soon be here.' But al she would say was, 'Leave me alone; do not try to deceive me. My childis dead.' And every day she would go abruptly out to watch the road by which her son had left. She trusted noeyes but her own. Once the sun had set she would come home again, only to weep and moan al night, unableto sleep. After the fourteen days of feasting that Raguel had sworn to keep for his daughter's marriage, Tobiascame to him and said, 'Let me go now; my father and mother must have lost al hope of seeing me again. So Ibeg you, father, to let me return to my father's house; I have told you the plight he was in when I left him.'	7 Pero ella replicaba: «Déjame, no trates de engañarme. Mi hijo ha muerto». Y todos los días salía a mirar el camino por donde se había ido su hijo, porque no se fiaba de nadie. Al caer la tarde, entraba en su casa y pasaba las noches llorando y lamentándose sin poder dormir. Cuando pasaron los catorce días de la fiesta que Ragüel había prometido celebrar en honor de su hija, Tobías fue a decirle: «Déjame partir, porque seguramente mi padre y mi madre piensan que ya no volverán a verme. Te ruego, padre, que me dejes volver a la casa de mi padre. Ya te dije en qué estado lo dejé».
8 Raguel said to Tobias, 'Stay, my son, stay with me. I shal send messengers to your father Tobit togive him news of you.'	8 Ragüel respondió a Tobías: «Quédate conmigo, hijo mío. Yo enviaré mensajeros a tu padre Tobit, para que le lleven noticias tuyas».
9 But Tobias pressed him, 'No, I beg you to let me go back to my father's house.'	9 Tobías insistió: «No, por favor. Déjame volver al lado de mi padre».
10 Without more ado, Raguel committed Sarah his bride into his keeping. He gave Tobias half hiswealth, slaves, men and women, oxen and sheep, donkeys and camels, clothes and money and householdthings.	10 Ragüel le entregó en seguida a Sara, con la mitad de todos sus bienes en servidores y servidoras, en bueyes, camellos, asnos y camellos, en vestidos, plata y utensilios.
11 And so he let them leave happily. To Tobias he said these parting words, 'Good health, my son, anda happy journey! May the Lord of heaven be gracious to you and to your wife Sarah! I hope to see your childrenbefore I die.'	11 Así los hizo partir contentos. Al despedirse de Tobías, le dijo: «¡Salud, hijo mío, y buen viaje! ¡Que el Señor del Cielo los guíe, a ti y a tu esposa Sara, y que yo pueda ver a sus hijos antes de morir!».
12 To his daughter Sarah he said, 'Go now to your father-in-law's house, since henceforward they areas much your parents as those who gave you life. Go in peace, my daughter, I hope to hear nothing but good ofyou, as long as I live.' He said goodbye to them and let them go. Edna in her turn said to Tobias, 'Dear son andbrother, may it please the Lord to bring you back again! I hope to live long enough to see the children of you andmy daughter Sarah before I die. In the sight of the Lord I give my daughter into your keeping. Never make herunhappy as long as you live. Go in peace, my son. Henceforward I am your mother and Sarah is your sister.May we al live happily for the rest of our lives!' And she kissed them both and saw them set out happily.	12 A su hija Sara le dijo: «Ve a la casa de tu suegro. Desde ahora ellos son tus padres, como los que te hemos dado la vida. Vete en paz, hija mía. ¡Ojalá toda mi vida pueda oír buenas noticias tuyas!». Y después de abrazarlos, los dejó partir.
13 Tobias left Raguel's house with his mind at ease. In his gladness he blessed the Lord of heaven andearth, the King of al that is, for the happy issue of his travels. He gave this blessing to Raguel and his wife Edna,'May it be my happiness to honour you for the rest of my life!'	13 Edna, por su parte, dijo a Tobías: «Hijo y hermano muy querido, quiera el Señor que vuelvas, y que yo tenga vida para ver a tus hijos y a los de mi hija Sara, antes de morir!». En presencia del Señor, te confío a mi hija para que la cuides. No la entristezcas ni un solo día de tu vida. Vete en paz, hijo mío. De ahora en adelante, yo soy tu madre y Sara es tu hermana. ¡Ojalá pudiéramos ser igualmente felices todos los días de nuestra vida!». Luego besó a los dos y los dejó partir llenos de alegría.
	14 Tobías salió feliz y contento de la casa de Ragüel, bendiciendo al Señor del cielo y de la tierra, el Rey del universo, por el buen resultado de su viaje. Ragüel le dijo: «Ojalá puedas honrar a tus padres todos los días de su vida!».
