Tobit 10

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Every day, meanwhile, Tobit kept reckoning the days required for the journey there and the journeyback. The full number went by, and stil his son had not come.	1 Cependant, de jour en jour, Tobit comptait les journées que demandait le voyage, à l'aller et auretour. Le nombre fut atteint, sans que le fils eût paru.
2 Then he thought, 'I hope he has not been delayed there! I hope Gabael is not dead, so that no one wilgive him the silver.'	2 Alors il pensa: "Pourvu qu'il ne soit pas retenu là-bas! Pourvu que Gabaël ne soit pas mort! Il n'y apeut-être eu personne pour lui donner l'argent!"
3 And he began to worry.	3 Et il commença à être contrarié.
4 His wife Anna kept saying, 'My son is dead! He is no longer among the living!' And she began to weepand mourn over her son. She kept saying,	4 Sa femme Anna disait: "Mon enfant est mort! Il n'est plus au nombre des vivants!" Et elle se mettaità pleurer et à se lamenter sur son fils. Elle disait:
5 'Alas! I should never have let you leave me, my child, you, the light of my eyes.'	5 "Quel malheur! Mon enfant, je t'ai laissé partir, toi, la lumière de mes yeux!"
6 And Tobit would reply, 'Hush, my sister! Do not worry. Al is wel with him. Something has happenedthere to delay them. His companion is someone we can trust, one of our kinsmen at that. Do not lose heart, mysister.	6 Et Tobit répondait: "Du calme, ma soeur! Ne te fais pas des idées! Il va bien! Ils auront eu là-bas uncontretemps. Son compagnon est quelqu'un de sérieux, et l'un de nos frères. Ne te désole pas, ma soeur. Il vaarriver d'un moment à l'autre."
7 He will soon be here.' But al she would say was, 'Leave me alone; do not try to deceive me. My childis dead.' And every day she would go abruptly out to watch the road by which her son had left. She trusted noeyes but her own. Once the sun had set she would come home again, only to weep and moan al night, unableto sleep. After the fourteen days of feasting that Raguel had sworn to keep for his daughter's marriage, Tobiascame to him and said, 'Let me go now; my father and mother must have lost al hope of seeing me again. So Ibeg you, father, to let me return to my father's house; I have told you the plight he was in when I left him.'	7 Mais elle répliquait: "Laisse-moi, n'essaie pas de me tromper. Mon enfant est mort." Et, tous lesjours, elle sortait soudain, pour surveiller la route par où son fils était parti. Elle ne croyait plus personne. Quandle soleil était couché, elle rentrait, pour pleurer et gémir à longueur de nuits sans pouvoir dormir. A la fin desquatorze jours de noces, que Ragouël avait juré de faire en l'honneur de sa fille, Tobie vint lui dire: "Laisse-moipartir, parce que mon père et ma mère ne doivent plus penser me revoir. Aussi, je t'en prie, père, laisse-moirentrer chez mon père, je t'ai expliqué dans quel état je l'ai laissé."
8 Raguel said to Tobias, 'Stay, my son, stay with me. I shal send messengers to your father Tobit togive him news of you.'	8 Ragouël dit à Tobie: "Reste, mon fils, reste avec moi. J'enverrai des messagers à ton père Tobitdonner de tes nouvelles."
9 But Tobias pressed him, 'No, I beg you to let me go back to my father's house.'	9 Tobie insista: "Non, je te demande la liberté de retourner chez mon père."
10 Without more ado, Raguel committed Sarah his bride into his keeping. He gave Tobias half hiswealth, slaves, men and women, oxen and sheep, donkeys and camels, clothes and money and householdthings.	10 sur-le-champ, Ragouël lui remit son épouse Sarra. Il donnait à Tobie la moitié de ses biens, enserviteurs et servantes, en boeufs et brebis, ânes et chameaux, et en habits, argent et ustensiles.
11 And so he let them leave happily. To Tobias he said these parting words, 'Good health, my son, anda happy journey! May the Lord of heaven be gracious to you and to your wife Sarah! I hope to see your childrenbefore I die.'	11 Il les laissait ainsi partir contents. Pour Tobie, il eut ces paroles d'adieu: "Bonne santé, mon enfant,et bon voyage! Que le Seigneur du Ciel soit favorable, à toi et à ta femme Sarra! J'espère bien voir vos enfantsavant de mourir."
12 To his daughter Sarah he said, 'Go now to your father-in-law's house, since henceforward they areas much your parents as those who gave you life. Go in peace, my daughter, I hope to hear nothing but good ofyou, as long as I live.' He said goodbye to them and let them go. Edna in her turn said to Tobias, 'Dear son andbrother, may it please the Lord to bring you back again! I hope to live long enough to see the children of you andmy daughter Sarah before I die. In the sight of the Lord I give my daughter into your keeping. Never make herunhappy as long as you live. Go in peace, my son. Henceforward I am your mother and Sarah is your sister.May we al live happily for the rest of our lives!' And she kissed them both and saw them set out happily.	12 A sa fille Sarra, il dit: "Va chez ton beau-père, puisque désormais ils sont tes parents, comme ceuxqui t'ont donné la vie. Va en paix, ma fille. Je compte n'entendre dire que du bien de toi, tant que je vivrai." Illeur fit ses adieux, et il leur donna congé. A son tour, Edna dit à Tobie: "Fils et frère très cher, qu'il plaise auSeigneur de te ramener! Je souhaite vivre assez pour voir vos enfants, à toi et à ma fille Sarra, avant de mourir.En présence du Seigneur je confie ma fille à ta garde. Ne lui fais jamais de la peine durant ta vie. Va en paix,mon fils. Désormais je suis ta mère, et Sarra est ta soeur. Puissions-nous tous vivre heureux pareillement, tousles jours de notre vie!" Et elle les embrassa tous les deux, et elle les laissa partir bien contents.
13 Tobias left Raguel's house with his mind at ease. In his gladness he blessed the Lord of heaven andearth, the King of al that is, for the happy issue of his travels. He gave this blessing to Raguel and his wife Edna,'May it be my happiness to honour you for the rest of my life!'	13 Tobie partit satisfait de chez Ragouël. Tout joyeux, il bénissait le Seigneur du Ciel et de la Terre etRoi de l'univers, de l'heureux succès de son voyage. Il bénit ainsi Ragouël et sa femme Edna: "Puissé-je avoir lebonheur de vous honorer tous les jours de ma vie!"
