1 Jehoash was seven years old when he came to the throne.	1 Ioas cominciò a regnare l'anno settimo di Iehu, e regnò quarantanni in Gerusalemme; sua madre si chiamava Sebia di Bersabea.
2 Jehoash became king in the seventh year of Jehu, and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. Hismother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	2 Ioas, per tutto il tempo che Ioiada lo ammaestrò, fece quel che era giusto nel cospetto del Signore;
3 Al his life Jehoash did what Yahweh regards as right, having been instructed by Jehoiada the priest.	3 ma non tolse via gli alti luoghi, e il popolo seguitava ad immolare e a bruciare incenso sugli alti luoghi.
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 Ioas disse ai sacerdoti: « Tutto il denaro delle cose sacre, quello portato nel tempio del Signore dai passanti, quello offerto pel prezzo d'un'anima, quello portato nel tempio del Signore spontaneamente e per libera elezione,
5 Jehoash said to the priests, 'Al the money from the sacred revenues brought to the Temple ofYahweh, the money from personal taxes, and al the money voluntarily offered to the Temple-	5 i sacerdoti lo ricevano secondo il loro ordine, e facciano i restauri della casa ove v'è bisogno di restauro ».
6 the priests are to receive this individual y from people of their acquaintance and wil carry out al therepairs to the Temple which need to be made.'	6 Ma fino all'anno ventesimo terzo del re Ioas i sacerdoti non fecero i restauri del tempio.
7 Now in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had done no repairs to the Temple;	7 Allora il re Ioas chiamò Ioiada pontefice e i sacerdoti, e disse loro: « Perchè non fate i restauri del tempio? Or dunque non prendete più il danaro secondo il vostro ordine; ma rendetelo pel restauro del tempio ».
8 so King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests. 'Why are you not repairing theTemple?' he asked. 'You are no longer to accept money from people of your acquaintance but are to hand it overfor the Temple repairs.'	8 E fu vietato ai sacerdoti di continuare a ricevere il danaro dal popolo e di fare i restauri della casa.
9 The priests agreed to accept no money from the people and no longer to be responsible for repairs tothe Temple.	9 Il pontefice Ioiada presa allora una cassa e fattovi fare un buco dalla parte superiore, la collocò presso l'altare, a destra di quelli che entravano nella casa del Signore; e i sacerdoti che custodivano le porte vi gettavano tutto il denaro portato al tempio del Signore.
10 Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in the lid and placed it beside the pil ar, to the right ofthe entry to the Temple of Yahweh; in it the priests who guarded the threshold put al the money which was givenfor the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Quando poi vedevano che nella cassa v'era molto denaro, andavano il segretario del re e il pontefice, e, dopo averlo versato, contavano il danaro che si trovava nella casa del Signore.
11 Whenever they saw that there was a great deal of money in the chest, the king's secretary wouldcome, and they would empty it out and reckon the money then in the Temple of Yahweh.	11 Numeratolo e pesatolo, lo consegnavano ai capi dei muratori che lavoravano nella casa del Signore, i quali lo spendevano per i legnaioli e per i muratori che lavoravano nella casa del Signore.
12 Once checked, they paid this money over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh,and these in turn spent it on carpenters and builders working on the Temple of Yahweh,	12 e facevano i restauri, per i tagliapietre, per comprare i legnami e le pietre da tagliare necessarie al completo restauro della casa del Signore in tutte le sue parti che esigevano spese pel consolidamento della casa,
13 on masons and stonecutters, and on buying timber and dressed stone to be used for repairs to theTemple of Yahweh; in short, for al the costs of the Temple repairs.	13 Però con questo danaro non eran fatte le idrie del tempio del Signore, le forchette, i turiboli, le trombe, nè alcun utensile d'oro e d'argento;
14 But no silver basins, knives, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or gold or silver objects were made for theTemple of Yahweh out of the money presented,	14 ma il danaro portato nel tempio del Signore era dato a quelli che lavoravano ai restauri del tempio del Signore.
15 which was al given to the masters of works for repairing the Temple of Yahweh.	15 E non eran chiesti i conti a quelli che ricevevano il danaro per pagare gli artefici; ma l'amministravano sulla fiducia loro avuta.
16 No accounts were kept with the men to whom the money was paid over to be spent on the workmen,since they were honest in their work.	16 In quanto poi al danaro pel delitto e al danaro pel peccato non era fatto entrare nel tempio del Signore, perchè esso era dei sacerdoti.
17 Money offered in expiation of an offence or of a sin was not given to the Temple of Yahweh; that wasfor the priests.	17 Allorquando Azael re di Siria salì a combattere contro Get e la prese e mosse per assalire Gerusalemme,
18 At that time Hazael king of Aram went to war against Gath, and captured it; he then prepared to attackJerusalem.	18 Ioas re di Giuda prese tutte le cose santificate, consacrate da losafat, da Ioram e da Ocozia suoi padri come pure offerte da lui, e tutto l'argento che potè trovare nei tesori del tempio del Signore e nel palazzo del re; e lo mandò ad Azael re di Siria, il quale si ritirò da Gerusalemme.
19 Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred offerings dedicated by his ancestors, the kings of Judah,Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, with those which he himself had dedicated, and all the gold which was tobe found in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and of the palace; he sent it all to Hazael king of Aram, whoretired from Jerusalem.	19 Quanto poi al resto degli atti di Gioas e tutto quello che fece, non sono tutte queste cose scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re di Giuda?
20 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?	20 Ma i suoi servi gli si ribellarono e, fatta una congiura tra loro, uccisero Ioas nella casa di Mello, alla discesa di Sella.
21 His own retainers rebelled and hatched a plot; they murdered Joash in the palace of the Millo . . .	21 Lo colpirono losacar figlio di Semaat e Iosabad figlio di Somer, suoi servi. Egli morì e fu sepolto coi suoi padri nella città di David, e gli successe nel regno Amasia suo figlio.
22 Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the retainers who struck the blows fromwhich he died. He was buried with his ancestors in the City of David; his son Amaziah succeeded him.
