NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Jehoash was seven years old when he came to the throne.	1 Joás tenía siete años cuando inició su reinado.
2 Jehoash became king in the seventh year of Jehu, and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. Hismother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	2 Comenzó a reinar en el séptimo año de Jehú, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Sibia, y era de Berseba.
3 Al his life Jehoash did what Yahweh regards as right, having been instructed by Jehoiada the priest.	3 Joás hizo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor durante toda su vida, porque el sacerdote Iehoiadá lo había instruido.
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 Sin embargo, no desaparecieron los lugares altos: el pueblo seguía ofreciendo sacrificios y quemando incienso en los lugares altos.
5 Jehoash said to the priests, 'Al the money from the sacred revenues brought to the Temple ofYahweh, the money from personal taxes, and al the money voluntarily offered to the Temple-	5 Joás dijo a los sacerdotes: «Todo el dinero que se aporte a la Casa del Señor como ofrenda consagrada –el dinero en moneda corriente, los aranceles personales según los recursos de cada uno, y todo el dinero que aporte cada uno a la Casa del Señor por propia voluntad –
6 the priests are to receive this individual y from people of their acquaintance and wil carry out al therepairs to the Temple which need to be made.'	6 lo recibirán los sacerdotes para sí mismos, cada uno de la gente que conoce, y tendrán que reparar las partes deterioradas de la Casa, allí donde sea necesario».
7 Now in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had done no repairs to the Temple;	7 Pero el vigesimotercer año del rey Joás, los sacerdotes no habían reparado aún las partes deterioradas de la Casa.
8 so King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests. 'Why are you not repairing theTemple?' he asked. 'You are no longer to accept money from people of your acquaintance but are to hand it overfor the Temple repairs.'	8 Entonces el rey Joás llamó al sacerdote Iehoiadá y a los demás sacerdotes, y les dijo: «¿Por qué no reparan las partes deterioradas de la Casa? En adelante, ya no recibirán más dinero de la gente que conocen, sino que lo entregarán para reparar la Casa».
9 The priests agreed to accept no money from the people and no longer to be responsible for repairs tothe Temple.	9 Los sacerdotes estuvieron de acuerdo en no recibir dinero del pueblo y en tener que reparar las partes deterioradas de la Casa.
10 Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in the lid and placed it beside the pil ar, to the right ofthe entry to the Temple of Yahweh; in it the priests who guarded the threshold put al the money which was givenfor the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Luego el sacerdote Iehoiadá tomó un cofre, le hizo una abertura en la tapa, y lo colocó al lado del altar, a la derecha de quien entra en la Casa del Señor. Y los sacerdotes guardianes del umbral depositaban allí todo el dinero que se aportaba para la Casa del Señor.
11 Whenever they saw that there was a great deal of money in the chest, the king's secretary wouldcome, and they would empty it out and reckon the money then in the Temple of Yahweh.	11 Cuando veían que había mucho dinero en el cofre, el secretario del rey subía con el sumo sacerdote a recoger y contar el dinero que se encontraba en la Casa del Señor.
12 Once checked, they paid this money over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh,and these in turn spent it on carpenters and builders working on the Temple of Yahweh,	12 Después de haberlo contado, ponían el dinero en manos de los que dirigían las obras, de los supervisores de la Casa del Señor, y ellos lo empleaban para pagar a los carpinteros y constructores que trabajaban en la Casa del Señor,
13 on masons and stonecutters, and on buying timber and dressed stone to be used for repairs to theTemple of Yahweh; in short, for al the costs of the Temple repairs.	13 a los albañiles y a los talladores de piedras, y también para comprar la madera y las piedras talladas con que se reparaba la Casa del Señor. Así se cubrían todos los gastos necesarios para reparar la Casa.
14 But no silver basins, knives, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or gold or silver objects were made for theTemple of Yahweh out of the money presented,	14 Sin embargo, con el dinero que se aportaba para la Casa del Señor no se hacían fuentes de plata, ni cuchillos, ni aspersorios, ni trompetas, ni objetos de oro y plata,
15 which was al given to the masters of works for repairing the Temple of Yahweh.	15 sino que se lo entregaba a los que dirigían las obras, y ellos lo empleaban para reparar la Casa del Señor.
16 No accounts were kept with the men to whom the money was paid over to be spent on the workmen,since they were honest in their work.	16 Y no se pedía cuenta a los hombres que recibían el dinero para pagar a los obreros, porque obraban a conciencia.
17 Money offered in expiation of an offence or of a sin was not given to the Temple of Yahweh; that wasfor the priests.	17 El dinero de los sacrificios de reparación y de los sacrificios por el pecado, no se lo destinaba a la Casa del Señor, sino que era para los sacerdotes.
18 At that time Hazael king of Aram went to war against Gath, and captured it; he then prepared to attackJerusalem.	18 Por ese entonces, Jazael, rey de Aram, subió a combatir contra Gat y se apoderó de ella. Luego Jazael se dispuso a subir contra Jerusalén.
19 Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred offerings dedicated by his ancestors, the kings of Judah,Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, with those which he himself had dedicated, and all the gold which was tobe found in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and of the palace; he sent it all to Hazael king of Aram, whoretired from Jerusalem.	19 Joás, rey de Judá, tomó todos los objetos que habían consagrado Josafat, Joram y Ocozías, sus padres, reyes de Judá, y los que él mismo había consagrado, así como también todo el oro que había en los tesoros de la Casa del Señor y de la casa del rey, y envió todo eso a Jazael, rey de Aram. Así este se alejó de Jerusalén.
20 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?	20 El resto de los hechos de Joás y todo lo que él hizo, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los Anales de los reyes de Judá?
21 His own retainers rebelled and hatched a plot; they murdered Joash in the palace of the Millo . . .	21 Sus servidores se sublevaron, urdieron una conspiración y asesinaron a Joás en Bet Miló, mientras él bajaba hacia Silá.
22 Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the retainers who struck the blows fromwhich he died. He was buried with his ancestors in the City of David; his son Amaziah succeeded him.	22 Iozacar, hijo de Simat, y Iehozabad, hijo de Somer, sus servidores, fueron los que lo hirieron de muerte. Lo sepultaron con sus padres en la Ciudad de David. Su hijo Amasías reinó en lugar de él.
