2 Kings 12

1 Jehoash was seven years old when he came to the throne.	1 בשנת שבע ליהוא מלך יהואש וארבעים שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו צביה מבאר שבע
2 Jehoash became king in the seventh year of Jehu, and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. Hismother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	2 ויעש יהואש הישר בעיני יהוה כל ימיו אשר הורהו יהוידע הכהן
3 Al his life Jehoash did what Yahweh regards as right, having been instructed by Jehoiada the priest.	3 רק הבמות לא סרו עוד העם מזבחים ומקטרים בבמות
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 ויאמר יהואש אל הכהנים כל כסף הקדשים אשר יובא בית יהוה כסף עובר איש כסף נפשות ערכו כל כסף אשר יעלה על לב איש להביא בית יהוה
5 Jehoash said to the priests, 'Al the money from the sacred revenues brought to the Temple ofYahweh, the money from personal taxes, and al the money voluntarily offered to the Temple-	5 יקחו להם הכהנים איש מאת מכרו והם יחזקו את בדק הבית לכל אשר ימצא שם בדק
6 the priests are to receive this individual y from people of their acquaintance and wil carry out al therepairs to the Temple which need to be made.'	6 ויהי בשנת עשרים ושלש שנה למלך יהואש לא חזקו הכהנים את בדק הבית
7 Now in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had done no repairs to the Temple;	7 ויקרא המלך יהואש ליהוידע הכהן ולכהנים ויאמר אלהם מדוע אינכם מחזקים את בדק הבית ועתה אל תקחו כסף מאת מכריכם כי לבדק הבית תתנהו
8 so King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests. 'Why are you not repairing theTemple?' he asked. 'You are no longer to accept money from people of your acquaintance but are to hand it overfor the Temple repairs.'	8 ויאתו הכהנים לבלתי קחת כסף מאת העם ולבלתי חזק את בדק הבית
9 The priests agreed to accept no money from the people and no longer to be responsible for repairs tothe Temple.	9 ויקח יהוידע הכהן ארון אחד ויקב חר בדלתו ויתן אתו אצל המזבח בימין בבוא איש בית יהוה ונתנו שמה הכהנים שמרי הסף את כל הכסף המובא בית יהוה
10 Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in the lid and placed it beside the pil ar, to the right ofthe entry to the Temple of Yahweh; in it the priests who guarded the threshold put al the money which was givenfor the Temple of Yahweh.	10 ויהי כראותם כי רב הכסף בארון ויעל ספר המלך והכהן הגדול ויצרו וימנו את הכסף הנמצא בית יהוה
11 Whenever they saw that there was a great deal of money in the chest, the king's secretary wouldcome, and they would empty it out and reckon the money then in the Temple of Yahweh.	11 ונתנו את הכסף המתכן על יד עשי המלאכה הפקדים בית יהוה ויוציאהו לחרשי העץ ולבנים העשים בית יהוה
12 Once checked, they paid this money over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh,and these in turn spent it on carpenters and builders working on the Temple of Yahweh,	12 ולגדרים ולחצבי האבן ולקנות עצים ואבני מחצב לחזק את בדק בית יהוה ולכל אשר יצא על הבית לחזקה
13 on masons and stonecutters, and on buying timber and dressed stone to be used for repairs to theTemple of Yahweh; in short, for al the costs of the Temple repairs.	13 אך לא יעשה בית יהוה ספות כסף מזמרות מזרקות חצצרות כל כלי זהב וכלי כסף מן הכסף המובא בית יהוה
14 But no silver basins, knives, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or gold or silver objects were made for theTemple of Yahweh out of the money presented,	14 כי לעשי המלאכה יתנהו וחזקו בו את בית יהוה
15 which was al given to the masters of works for repairing the Temple of Yahweh.	15 ולא יחשבו את האנשים אשר יתנו את הכסף על ידם לתת לעשי המלאכה כי באמנה הם עשים
16 No accounts were kept with the men to whom the money was paid over to be spent on the workmen,since they were honest in their work.	16 כסף אשם וכסף חטאות לא יובא בית יהוה לכהנים יהיו
17 Money offered in expiation of an offence or of a sin was not given to the Temple of Yahweh; that wasfor the priests.	17 אז יעלה חזאל מלך ארם וילחם על גת וילכדה וישם חזאל פניו לעלות על ירושלם
18 At that time Hazael king of Aram went to war against Gath, and captured it; he then prepared to attackJerusalem.	18 ויקח יהואש מלך יהודה את כל הקדשים אשר הקדישו יהושפט ויהורם ואחזיהו אבתיו מלכי יהודה ואת קדשיו ואת כל הזהב הנמצא באצרות בית יהוה ובית המלך וישלח לחזאל מלך ארם ויעל מעל ירושלם
19 Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred offerings dedicated by his ancestors, the kings of Judah,Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, with those which he himself had dedicated, and all the gold which was tobe found in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and of the palace; he sent it all to Hazael king of Aram, whoretired from Jerusalem.	19 ויתר דברי יואש וכל אשר עשה הלוא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה
20 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?	20 ויקמו עבדיו ויקשרו קשר ויכו את יואש בית מלא היורד סלא
21 His own retainers rebelled and hatched a plot; they murdered Joash in the palace of the Millo . . .	21 ויוזבד בן שמעת ויהוזבד בן שמר עבדיו הכהו וימת ויקברו אתו עם אבתיו בעיר דוד וימלך אמציה בנו תחתיו
22 Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the retainers who struck the blows fromwhich he died. He was buried with his ancestors in the City of David; his son Amaziah succeeded him.
