1 Jehoash was seven years old when he came to the throne.	1 - Joas divenne re il settimo anno di Jeu, e regnò quarant'anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre avea nome Sebia di Bersabee.
2 Jehoash became king in the seventh year of Jehu, and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. Hismother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	2 Joas operò rettamente al cospetto del Signore per tutto il tempo che seguì gli ammaestramenti del sacerdote Joiada;
3 Al his life Jehoash did what Yahweh regards as right, having been instructed by Jehoiada the priest.	3 tuttavia non soppresse le alture, poichè il popolo continuava ad immolare e a bruciare incenso sugli alti luoghi.
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 Joas disse ai sacerdoti: «Tutto il denaro del santuario, portato nel tempio del Signore dai forestieri, quello che viene offerto pel riscatto della persona e tutto il denaro che spontaneamente e per libera elezione viene portato nel tempio del Signore,
5 Jehoash said to the priests, 'Al the money from the sacred revenues brought to the Temple ofYahweh, the money from personal taxes, and al the money voluntarily offered to the Temple-	5 lo riceveranno i sacerdoti, ciascuno secondo il proprio turno e lo impiegheranno per i restauri del tempio, se vi sarà alcunchè che richieda di essere restaurato».
6 the priests are to receive this individual y from people of their acquaintance and wil carry out al therepairs to the Temple which need to be made.'	6 Ma poichè fino al ventesimo terzo anno del re Joas i sacerdoti non avevano riparato alcuno dei guasti del tempio,
7 Now in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had done no repairs to the Temple;	7 il re Joas chiamò il pontefice e i sacerdoti, e disse loro: «Perchè non avete fatto le riparazioni al tempio? D'ora innanzi non riceverete più il denaro secondo i vostri turni, ma lo lascerete per le riparazioni del tempio».
8 so King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests. 'Why are you not repairing theTemple?' he asked. 'You are no longer to accept money from people of your acquaintance but are to hand it overfor the Temple repairs.'	8 E i sacerdoti ebbero proibizione di ricevere per l'avvenire denaro dal popolo e non furono più incaricati delle riparazioni del tempio.
9 The priests agreed to accept no money from the people and no longer to be responsible for repairs tothe Temple.	9 Il sacerdote Joiada prese allora una cassa, vi aprì un foro nel coperchio e la pose accanto all'altare, a destra dell'entrata della casa del Signore. E i sacerdoti che avevano la custodia delle porte, vi mettevano tutto il denaro, che era portato nel tempio del Signore.
10 Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in the lid and placed it beside the pil ar, to the right ofthe entry to the Temple of Yahweh; in it the priests who guarded the threshold put al the money which was givenfor the Temple of Yahweh.	10 Quando vedevano che la cassa era troppo piena, il segretario del re il sommo sacerdote venivano a vuotarla e a contare il denaro, che si trovava nel tempio del Signore;
11 Whenever they saw that there was a great deal of money in the chest, the king's secretary wouldcome, and they would empty it out and reckon the money then in the Temple of Yahweh.	11 e lo distribuivano in determinata quantità a coloro che sovrastavano agli operai della casa del Signore, i quali ne usavano per pagare i falegnami e gli scalpellini, che lavoravano nel tempio del Signore,
12 Once checked, they paid this money over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh,and these in turn spent it on carpenters and builders working on the Temple of Yahweh,	12 e facevano le riparazioni necessarie, e tutti quegli altri che tagliavano le pietre; come pure ne usavano per comperare il legname e le pietre che venivano tagliate; in modo da compiere la restaurazione della casa del Signore, relativamente a tutto ciò che richiedeva spesa per le riparazioni del tempio.
13 on masons and stonecutters, and on buying timber and dressed stone to be used for repairs to theTemple of Yahweh; in short, for al the costs of the Temple repairs.	13 Non si facevano però con questo denaro, cioè col denaro che era portato nel tempio del Signore, nè le idrie del tempio del Signore, nè le forchette, nè i turiboli, nè le trombe, nè alcun vaso d'oro o d'argento.
14 But no silver basins, knives, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or gold or silver objects were made for theTemple of Yahweh out of the money presented,	14 Poichè esso era dato a quelli che lavoravano per la restaurazione del tempio,
15 which was al given to the masters of works for repairing the Temple of Yahweh.	15 e non si faceva rendere conto agli uomini che ricevevano il danaro per distribuirlo agli operai; ma essi lo distribuivano secondo coscienza.
16 No accounts were kept with the men to whom the money was paid over to be spent on the workmen,since they were honest in their work.	16 Il denaro poi dei sacrifici per il delitto e per il peccato non era portato nel tempio del Signore, perchè esso era dei sacerdoti.
17 Money offered in expiation of an offence or of a sin was not given to the Temple of Yahweh; that wasfor the priests.	17 Ascese Azael, re di Siria, per combattere contro Get, e se ne impadronì; si volse allora per salire fino a Gerusalemme.
18 At that time Hazael king of Aram went to war against Gath, and captured it; he then prepared to attackJerusalem.	18 Perciò Joas, re di Giuda, prese tutte le cose consacrate da Josafat, da Joram, e da Ocozia, suoi padri, re di Giuda, e le cose che egli avea offerto e tutto il danaro, che si potè trovare nei tesori del tempio del Signore e nel palazzo del re e mandò tutto ad Azael re della Siria, il quale si ritirò da Gerusalemme.
19 Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred offerings dedicated by his ancestors, the kings of Judah,Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, with those which he himself had dedicated, and all the gold which was tobe found in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and of the palace; he sent it all to Hazael king of Aram, whoretired from Jerusalem.	19 Il resto delle azioni di Joas e tutto quello che egli fece, non è stato forse scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?
20 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?	20 I suoi servi si ribellarono e congiurarono fra loro e uccisero Joas nella casa di Mello, che è nella discesa di Sella.
21 His own retainers rebelled and hatched a plot; they murdered Joash in the palace of the Millo . . .	21 Josacar, figlio di Semaat e Jozabad figlio di Somer, suoi servi, lo assalirono e l'uccisero; e fu sepolto coi padri suoi nella città di Davide, e gli successe sul trono il figlio Amasia.
22 Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the retainers who struck the blows fromwhich he died. He was buried with his ancestors in the City of David; his son Amaziah succeeded him.
