1 Jehoash was seven years old when he came to the throne.	1 L'anno settimo di Jehu cominciò di Gioas a regnare, e regnò quarant'anni in Gerusalemme: sua madre si chiamò Sebia di Bersabee.
2 Jehoash became king in the seventh year of Jehu, and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. Hismother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	2 E Gioas fece quel, che era giusto nel cospetto del Signore per tutto il tempo, che ebbe per maestro Joiada sommo Sacerdote.
3 Al his life Jehoash did what Yahweh regards as right, having been instructed by Jehoiada the priest.	3 Egli però non tolse via i luoghi eccelsi; perocché il popolo immolava tutt'ora, e bruciava incenso ne' luoghi eccelsi.
4 The high places, however, were not abolished, and the people stil offered sacrifices and incense onthe high places.	4 Or Gioas disse ai Sacerdoti: Tutto il denaro sacro, che sarà portato nel tempio del Signore dai passeggieri, e quello, che è offerto per riscatto della persona, e quello, che spontaneamente, e per libera elezione è portato nel tempio del Signore,
5 Jehoash said to the priests, 'Al the money from the sacred revenues brought to the Temple ofYahweh, the money from personal taxes, and al the money voluntarily offered to the Temple-	5 Lo riceveranno i sacerdoti secondo il loro turno, e faranno i risarcimenti della casa secondo che vedranno esservi il bisogno.
6 the priests are to receive this individual y from people of their acquaintance and wil carry out al therepairs to the Temple which need to be made.'	6 Or fino all'anno ventesimo terzo del re Gioas, i sacerdoti non fecero i risarcimenti del tempio.
7 Now in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had done no repairs to the Temple;	7 E il re Gioas chiamò a se Joiada Pontefice, e i sacerdoti, e disse loro: Per qual motivo non avete voi fatto i risarcimenti del tempio? Non prendete adunque peli' avvenire il danaro nei vostri turni, ma lasciatelo pei risarcimenti del tempio.
8 so King Jehoash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests. 'Why are you not repairing theTemple?' he asked. 'You are no longer to accept money from people of your acquaintance but are to hand it overfor the Temple repairs.'	8 E fu vietato ai sacerdoti di continuare a prendere il danaro dal popolo, e di fare i risarcimenti della casa.
9 The priests agreed to accept no money from the people and no longer to be responsible for repairs tothe Temple.	9 E il Pontefice Joiada prese una cassa, e vi fece farà una buca dalla parte di sopra, e la collocò presso all'altare dal lato destro riguardo a quelli, che entravan nella casa del Signore, e i sacerdoti, che custodivan le porte, gettavano in quella cassa tutto il denaro, che era portato al tempio del Signore.
10 Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in the lid and placed it beside the pil ar, to the right ofthe entry to the Temple of Yahweh; in it the priests who guarded the threshold put al the money which was givenfor the Temple of Yahweh.	10 E quando si accorgevano, che troppo di denaro era nella cassa, il segretario del re, e il Pontefice andavano, e lo cavavano, e contavano tutto quel denaro, che trovavasi nella casa del Signore.
11 Whenever they saw that there was a great deal of money in the chest, the king's secretary wouldcome, and they would empty it out and reckon the money then in the Temple of Yahweh.	11 E numeratolo, e pesatolo, lo rimettevano nelle mani di quelli, che risiedevano agli operai della casa del Signore, e quelli ne pagavano i legnaiuoli, e muratori, che lavoravano nella casa del Signore,
12 Once checked, they paid this money over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh,and these in turn spent it on carpenters and builders working on the Temple of Yahweh,	12 E facevano i risarcimenti, e quelli, che tagliavan le pietre, e comperavano i legnami, e le pietre da tagliare, affinchè fosse perfettamente risarcita la casa del Signore in qualunque parte occorresse dì spendere per la stabilita della casa.
13 on masons and stonecutters, and on buying timber and dressed stone to be used for repairs to theTemple of Yahweh; in short, for al the costs of the Temple repairs.	13 Ma di quel denaro, che era portato al tempio del Signore, non si facevano le idrie, e le forchette, e i turiboli, e le trombe, né alcuno de' vasi d'oro, e d'argento del tempio del Signore:
14 But no silver basins, knives, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or gold or silver objects were made for theTemple of Yahweh out of the money presented,	14 Perocché egli si dava a quelli, che lavoravano ai risarcimenti del tempio del Signore:
15 which was al given to the masters of works for repairing the Temple of Yahweh.	15 E non si faceva render conto a quelli, i quali riceveano il denaro per pagare gli artefici, ma lo amministravano sulla loro fede.
16 No accounts were kept with the men to whom the money was paid over to be spent on the workmen,since they were honest in their work.	16 E non si portava nel tempio del Signore il danaro (offerto) per il delitto, o pel peccato, perchè questo era dei sacerdoti.
17 Money offered in expiation of an offence or of a sin was not given to the Temple of Yahweh; that wasfor the priests.	17 Allora Hazael re di Siria andò all'assedio di Geth, e la prese; e si voltò per andare a Gerusalemme.
18 At that time Hazael king of Aram went to war against Gath, and captured it; he then prepared to attackJerusalem.	18 Per la qual cosa Gioas re di Giuda prese tutte le cose sacre offerte da Josaphat, da Joram, e da Ochozia regi di Giuda suoi maggiori, e quelle, che egli avea offerte; e tutto l'argento, che potè trovarsi ne' tesori del tempio del Signore, e nel palazzo reale, e lo mandò ad Hazaele re di Siria, il quale si ritirò da Gerusalemme.
19 Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred offerings dedicated by his ancestors, the kings of Judah,Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, with those which he himself had dedicated, and all the gold which was tobe found in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and of the palace; he sent it all to Hazael king of Aram, whoretired from Jerusalem.	19 Il resto poi delle azioni di Gioas, e tutto quello, ch'ei fece, non è egli scritto nel giornale de' fatti dei re di Giuda?
20 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?	20 Or i suoi servi si sollevarono, e fecer congiura tra loro, e uccisero Gioas nella casa di Mello nella discesa di Sella.
21 His own retainers rebelled and hatched a plot; they murdered Joash in the palace of the Millo . . .	21 E quelli, che lo uccisero, furono Josachar figliuolo di Semaath, e Jozabad figliuolo di Somer, suoi servi; e morto ch'ei fu lo seppellirono co' padri suoi nella città di Davidde, e regnò in luogo di lui Amasia suo figliuolo.
22 Jozacar son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer were the retainers who struck the blows fromwhich he died. He was buried with his ancestors in the City of David; his son Amaziah succeeded him.
