1 When Solomon had finished building the Temple of Yahweh, the royal palace and everything else whichSolomon had wanted to do,	1 ויהי ככלות שלמה לבנות את בית יהוה ואת בית המלך ואת כל חשק שלמה אשר חפץ לעשות
2 Yahweh appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.	2 וירא יהוה אל שלמה שנית כאשר נראה אליו בגבעון
3 Yahweh said to him, 'I have heard your prayer and the entreaty which you have before me. I consecratethis temple which you have built: I place my name there for ever; my eyes and my heart wil be there always.	3 ויאמר יהוה אליו שמעתי את תפלתך ואת תחנתך אשר התחננתה לפני הקדשתי את הבית הזה אשר בנתה לשום שמי שם עד עולם והיו עיני ולבי שם כל הימים
4 For your part, if you walk before me in innocence of heart and in honesty, like your father David, if youdo everything that I command and keep my laws and my ordinances,	4 ואתה אם תלך לפני כאשר הלך דוד אביך בתם לבב ובישר לעשות ככל אשר צויתיך חקי ומשפטי תשמר
5 I shal make your royal throne secure over Israel for ever, as I promised your father David when I said,"You wil never lack for a man on the throne of Israel."	5 והקמתי את כסא ממלכתך על ישראל לעלם כאשר דברתי על דוד אביך לאמר לא יכרת לך איש מעל כסא ישראל
6 But if you turn away from me, either you or your descendants, and instead of keeping mycommandments and laws which I have laid down for you, you go and serve other gods and worship them,	6 אם שוב תשבון אתם ובניכם מאחרי ולא תשמרו מצותי חקתי אשר נתתי לפניכם והלכתם ועבדתם אלהים אחרים והשתחויתם להם
7 then I shal banish Israel from the country which I have given them, and shall disown this Temple which Ihave consecrated for my name, and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among al peoples.	7 והכרתי את ישראל מעל פני האדמה אשר נתתי להם ואת הבית אשר הקדשתי לשמי אשלח מעל פני והיה ישראל למשל ולשנינה בכל העמים
8 As for this once-exalted Temple, everyone who passes by wil be appal ed, and they wil whistle and say,"Why has Yahweh treated this country and this Temple like this?"	8 והבית הזה יהיה עליון כל עבר עליו ישם ושרק ואמרו על מה עשה יהוה ככה לארץ הזאת ולבית הזה
9 And the answer wil be, "Because they deserted Yahweh their God who brought their ancestors out ofEgypt, and they adopted other gods and worshipped and served them; that is why Yahweh has brought al thesedisasters on them." '	9 ואמרו על אשר עזבו את יהוה אלהיהם אשר הוציא את אבתם מארץ מצרים ויחזקו באלהים אחרים וישתחו להם ויעבדם על כן הביא יהוה עליהם את כל הרעה הזאת
10 At the end of the twenty years that it took Solomon to erect the two buildings, the Temple of Yahwehand the royal palace	10 ויהי מקצה עשרים שנה אשר בנה שלמה את שני הבתים את בית יהוה ואת בית המלך
11 (Hiram king of Tyre had provided Solomon with al the cedar wood, juniper wood and gold that hewanted), King Solomon gave Hiram twenty towns in the territory of Galilee.	11 חירם מלך צר נשא את שלמה בעצי ארזים ובעצי ברושים ובזהב לכל חפצו אז יתן המלך שלמה לחירם עשרים עיר בארץ הגליל
12 But when Hiram came from Tyre to view the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleasedwith them.	12 ויצא חירם מצר לראות את הערים אשר נתן לו שלמה ולא ישרו בעיניו
13 He said, 'What kind of towns are these you have given me, brother?' And to this day they are known as'cabul-land'.	13 ויאמר מה הערים האלה אשר נתתה לי אחי ויקרא להם ארץ כבול עד היום הזה
14 Hiram sent the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.	14 וישלח חירם למלך מאה ועשרים ככר זהב
15 This is an account of the forced labour levied by King Solomon for building the Temple of Yahweh, hisown palace, the Mil o and the fortifications of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, Gezer	15 וזה דבר המס אשר העלה המלך שלמה לבנות את בית יהוה ואת ביתו ואת המלוא ואת חומת ירושלם ואת חצר ואת מגדו ואת גזר
16 (Pharaoh king of Egypt mounted an expedition, captured Gezer, burnt it down and massacred theCanaanites living there; he then gave the town as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife,	16 פרעה מלך מצרים עלה וילכד את גזר וישרפה באש ואת הכנעני הישב בעיר הרג ויתנה שלחים לבתו אשת שלמה
17 and Solomon rebuilt Gezer), Lower Beth-Horon,	17 ויבן שלמה את גזר ואת בית חרן תחתון
18 Baalath, Tamar in the desert, inside the country,	18 ואת בעלת ואת תמר במדבר בארץ
19 al Solomon's storage towns owned by Solomon, al the towns for his chariots and horses, andwhatever Solomon was pleased to build in Jerusalem, in the Lebanon and in al the countries under his rule.	19 ואת כל ערי המסכנות אשר היו לשלמה ואת ערי הרכב ואת ערי הפרשים ואת חשק שלמה אשר חשק לבנות בירושלם ובלבנון ובכל ארץ ממשלתו
20 Al those who survived of the Amorite, Hittite, Perizzite, Hivite and Jebusite peoples, who were notIsraelites-	20 כל העם הנותר מן האמרי החתי הפרזי החוי והיבוסי אשר לא מבני ישראל המה
21 their descendants still remaining in the country on whom the Israelites had not been able to enforce thecurse of destruction -- these Solomon levied as forced labourers, as is stil the case today.	21 בניהם אשר נתרו אחריהם בארץ אשר לא יכלו בני ישראל להחרימם ויעלם שלמה למס עבד עד היום הזה
22 Solomon did not, however, impose forced labour on the Israelites; for they were soldiers, his officials,his administrators, his officers and his chariot and cavalry commanders.	22 ומבני ישראל לא נתן שלמה עבד כי הם אנשי המלחמה ועבדיו ושריו ושלשיו ושרי רכבו ופרשיו
23 There were five hundred and fifty officials in charge of the foremen over Solomon's work, whosupervised the people employed on the work.	23 אלה שרי הנצבים אשר על המלאכה לשלמה חמשים וחמש מאות הרדים בעם העשים במלאכה
24 After Pharaoh's daughter had moved from the City of David up to the palace which he had built for her,he then built the Mil o.	24 אך בת פרעה עלתה מעיר דוד אל ביתה אשר בנה לה אז בנה את המלוא
25 Three times a year Solomon presented burnt offerings and communion sacrifices on the altar which hehad built for Yahweh and set his burnt offerings smoking before Yahweh. Thus he completed the Temple.	25 והעלה שלמה שלש פעמים בשנה עלות ושלמים על המזבח אשר בנה ליהוה והקטיר אתו אשר לפני יהוה ושלם את הבית
26 King Solomon equipped a fleet at Ezion-Geber, which is near Elath on the shores of the Red Sea, inEdom.	26 ואני עשה המלך שלמה בעציון גבר אשר את אלות על שפת ים סוף בארץ אדום
27 For this fleet Hiram sent men of his, experienced sailors, to serve with those in Solomon's service.	27 וישלח חירם באני את עבדיו אנשי אניות ידעי הים עם עבדי שלמה
28 They went to Ophir and took on four hundred and twenty talents of gold, which they brought back toSolomon.	28 ויבאו אופירה ויקחו משם זהב ארבע מאות ועשרים ככר ויבאו אל המלך שלמה
