Genesis 48

1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Dopo queste cose vennero a dire a Giuseppe che suo padre era malato; ed egli, presi con sè i due figli, Manasse ed Efraim, andò a trovarlo.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 E fu detto al vecchio: « Ecco il tuo figlio Giuseppe è venuto a trovarti ». Ed egli, riprese le forze, si pose a sedere sul letto.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 E, entrato che fu Giuseppe, gli disse: « Dio onnipotente mi apparve a Luza, nella terra di Canaan, mi benedì
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 e mi disse: Io ti farò crescere e moltiplicare, e ti farò capo di una turba di popoli, e questa terra la darò a te e alla tua stirpe dopo di te in perpetuo dominio.
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 0r dunque i due figli che ti son nati nella terra d'Egitto, prima che io venissi a trovarti, saranno miei. Efraim e Manasse saranno tenuti per miei, come Ruben e Simeone.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Ma gli altri che avrai dopo di questi saranno tuoi, e saran chiamati col nome dei loro fratelli in ciò che riguarda la loro eredità.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. 8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 Vedendo poi i figli di Giuseppe, gli disse: « E questi, chi sono? »
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 Rispose: « Sono i miei due figli che Dio mi ha dati qui ». Ed egli disse: « Falli appressare a me, affinchè io li benedica ».
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Or gli occhi d'Israele erano annebbiati per la gran vecchiaia, e non poteva più distinguere. Avvicinati che furono li baciò, li abbracciò,
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 e disse al suo figliolo: «Non solo non mi è stato negato di rivederti; ma Dio m'ha dato divedere anche la tua stirpe».
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 Giuseppe, dopo averli ripresi dal seno del padre, si prostrò fino a terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 Poi posto Efraim alla sua destra, che era la sinistra d'Israele, e Manasse alla sua sinistra, che era la destra del padre, li fece accostare a lui.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 E Israele, stesa la mano destra, la pose sul capo di Efraim, fratello minore, e la sinistra sul capo di Manasse, che era il maggiore, incrociando le mani.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 E Giacobbe benedisse i figli di Giuseppe, dicendo: « Dio, alla presenza del quale camminarono i miei padri Abramo e Isacco, Dio, che mi pasce dalla mia adolescenza fino a questo giorno,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 L'Angelo che mi ha liberato da ogni male, benedica questi fanciulli: essi portino il mio nome ed anche i nomi dei miei padri Abramo e Isacco, e si moltiplichino copiosamente sopra la terra ».
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Ma Giuseppe, vedendo che suo padre aveva posta la mano destra sul capo d'Efraim, n'ebbe dispiacere, e presa la mano del padre tentò di levarla dal capo d'Efraim e di trasportarla sul capo di Manasse;
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 e disse al padre: « Non così, padre, perchè il primogenito è questo: poni la tua: destra sopra il suo capo ».
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Ma egli, ricusando di farlo, disse: « Lo so, figlio mio, lo so: sì, anche lui sarà capo di popoli e si moltiplicherà; ma il suo fratello minore sarà maggiore di lui, e la sua stirpe diventerà nazioni ».
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 E allora li benedisse, dicendo: « In te sarà benedetto Israele; e si dirà: Dio ti faccia simile ad Efraim e a Manasse ». E mise Efraim prima di Manasse.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Poi disse a Giuseppe suo figlio: « Ecco io me ne muoio; ma Dio sarà con voi, e vi ricondurrà nella terra dei vostri padri.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Io ti dono, di più che ai tuoi fratelli, quella parte che io conquistai sopra gli Amorrei, colla spada e col mio arco ».
