Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Después de estos acontecimientos, José recibió esta noticia: «Tu padre está enfermo». Entonces llevó a sus dos hijos, Manasés y Efraím,
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 y se hizo anunciar a su padre: «Tu hijo José ha venido a verte». Israel, haciendo un esfuerzo, se sentó en su lecho,
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 y dijo a José: «El Dios Todopoderoso se me apareció, en Luz, en la tierra de Canaán, y me bendijo,
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 diciendo: «Yo te haré fecundo y numeroso, haré nacer de ti una asamblea de pueblos, y daré esta tierra a tu descendencia después de ti, en posesión perpetua».
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Ahora bien, los dos hijos que tuviste en Egipto antes que yo viniera a reunirme contigo, serán mis hijos. Efraím y Manasés serán míos, como lo son Rubén y Simeón.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Los que nacieron después de ellos, en cambio, serán tuyos, y serán llamados con el nombre de sus hermanos para recibir su herencia.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Yo quiero que así sea, porque a mi regreso de Padán, mientras íbamos por la tierra de Canaán, a poca distancia de Efratá, se me murió tu madre Raquel, y yo la sepulté allí, junto al camino de Efratá, es decir, de Belén».
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 Al ver a los hijos de José, Israel preguntó: «Y estos, ¿quiénes son?».
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 «Son mis hijos, los que Dios me dio aquí», respondió José a su padre. Este añadió: «Acércamelos, para que yo los bendiga».
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 José los puso junto a Israel, que ya no veía, porque sus ojos se habían debilitado a causa de su edad avanzada, y él los besó y los abrazó.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Luego Israel dijo a José: «Yo pensaba que nunca más volvería a ver tu rostro, y ahora Dios me permite ver también tu descendencia».
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 José los retiró de las rodillas de Israel y se inclinó profundamente;
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 después los tomó a los dos, a Efraím con su mano derecha, para que estuviera a la izquierda de Israel, y a Manasés con su mano izquierda, para que estuviera a la derecha de Israel, y se los presentó.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Pero Israel, entrecruzando sus manos, puso la derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraím, que era el menor, y la izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manasés, aunque este era el primogénito,
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 y los bendijo, diciendo: «El Dios en cuya presencia caminaron mis padres, Abraham e Isaac, el Dios que fue mi pastor, desde mi nacimiento hasta el día de hoy,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 el ángel que me rescató de todo mal, bendiga a estos jóvenes, para que en ellos sobreviva mi nombre y el de mis padres, Abraham e Isaac, y lleguen a ser una gran multitud sobre la tierra».
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Cuando José advirtió que su padre tenía puesta la mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraím, no le pareció bien. Entonces tomó la mano de su padre para pasarla de la cabeza de Efraím a la de Manasés,
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 y dijo a su padre: «Así no, padre, porque el primogénito es el otro; coloca tu mano derecha sobre su cabeza».
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Pero su padre se resistió con estas palabras: «Ya lo sé, hijo mío, ya lo sé. También de él nacerá un pueblo, y también él será grande. Pero su hermano menor lo aventajará, y de él descenderán naciones enteras».
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 Y aquel día pronunció sobre ellos esta bendición: «Por ti Israel pronunciará esta bendición: ¡Que Dios te haga como Efraím y Manasés!». Y puso a Efraím delante de Manasés.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Finalmente, Israel dijo a José: «Yo estoy a punto de morir, pero Dios estará con ustedes y los hará volver a la tierra de sus padres.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Yo, por mi parte, te doy una franja de tierra más que a tus hermanos, la que arrebaté a los amorreos con mi espada y con mi arco».
