Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Sucedió tras esto que se le dijo a José: «Mira que tu padre está malo.» Entonces él tomó consigo a sus dos hijos Manasés y Efraím,
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 y se hizo anunciar a Jacob: «Tu hijo José ha venido a verte.» Entonces Israel, haciendo un esfuerzo, se sentó en su lecho.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 Dijo Jacob a José: «El Saday se me apareció en Luz, en país cananeo; me bendijo
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 y me dijo: “Mira, yo haré que seas fecundo y que te multipliques; haré de ti una asamblea de pueblos, y daré esta tierra a tu posteridad en propiedad eterna.”
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Pues bien, los dos hijos tuyos que te nacieron en Egipto antes de venir yo a Egipto a reunirme contigo, míos son: Efraím y Manasés, igual que Rubén y Simeón, serán míos.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 En cuanto a la prole que has engendrado después de ellos, tuya será y con el apellido de sus demás hermanos se la citará en orden a la herencia.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Cuando yo venía de Paddán se me murió en el camino Raquel, tu madre, en el país de los cananeos, a poco trecho para llegar a Efratá, y allí la sepulté, en el camino de Efratá, o sea Belén.»
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 Vio Israel a los hijos de José y preguntó: «¿Quiénes son éstos?»
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 Dijo José a su padre: «Son mis hijos, los que me ha dado Dios aquí.» Y él dijo: «Tráemelos acá, que yo les bendiga.»
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Los ojos de Jacob se habían nublado por la vejez y no podía ver. Acercóselos, pues, y él los besó y los abrazó.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Dijo Israel a José: «Yo no sospechaba ver más tu rostro, y ahora resulta que Dios me ha hecho ver también a tus hijos.»
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 José los sacó de entre las rodillas de su padre, y se postró ante él rostro en tierra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 José los tomó a los dos, a Efraím con la derecha, a la izquierda de Israel, y a Manasés con la izquierda, a la derecha de Israel, y los acercó a éste.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Israel extendió su diestra y la puso sobre la cabeza de Efraím, aunque era el menor, y su izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manasés: es decir que cruzó las manos, puesto que Manasés era el primogénito;
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 y bendijo a José diciendo: «El Dios en cuya presencia anduvieron mis padres Abraham e Isaac, el Dios que ha sido mi pastor desde que existo hasta el presente día,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 el Ángel que me ha rescatado de todo mal, bendiga a estos muchachos; sean llamados con mi nombre y con el de mis padres Abraham e Isaac, y multiplíquense y crezcan en medio de la tierra.»
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Al ver José que su padre tenía la diestra puesta sobre la cabeza de Efraím, le pareció mal, y asió la mano de su padre para retirarla de sobre la cabeza de Efraím a la de Manasés.
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 Y dijo José a su padre: «Así no, padre mío, que éste es el primogénito; pon tu diestra sobre su cabeza.
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Pero rehusó su padre, y dijo: «Lo sé, hijo mío, lo sé; también él será grande. Sin embargo, su hermano será más grande que él, y su descendencia se hará una muchedumbre de gentes.
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 Y les bendijo aquel día, diciendo: «Que con vuestro nombre se bendiga en Israel, y se diga: ¡Hágate Dios como a Efraím y Manasés!» - y puso a Efraím por delante de Manassés. -
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Dijo entonces Israel a José: «Yo muero; pero Dios estará con vosotros y os devolverá a la tierra de vuestros padres.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Yo, por mi parte, te doy Siquem a ti, mejorándote sobre tus hermanos: lo que tomé al amorreo con mi espada y con mi arco.»
