Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Depois disso, vieram anunciar a José: "Teu pai está doente." Tomou então com ele seus dois filhos, Manassés e Efraim.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 Jacó foi avisado disso: "Eis, disseram-lhe, que o teu filho José vem te ver". Israel, reunindo suas forças, assentou-se no seu leito.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 E disse a José: "O Deus todo-poderoso apareceu-me em Luz, na terra de Canaã, e abençoou-me.
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 Disse-me: Eu te tornarei fecundo e te multiplicarei até fazer de ti uma assembléia de povos, e darei esta terra à tua posteridade em possessão eterna.
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Agora, os dois filhos que te nasceram no Egito antes que eu viesse para junto de ti, são meus filhos: Efraim e Manassés são meus, com o mesmo título que Rubem e Simeão.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Os filhos, porém, que tiveste depois deles, são teus: é conforme o nome de seus irmãos que eles terão parte na repartição da herança.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Quando eu voltava de Padã, tua mãe Raquel morreu em caminho, perto de mim, na terra de Canaã, a alguma distância de Efrata; foi ali que a enterrei, no caminho de Efrata, hoje Belém."
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 Israel viu os filhos de José e disse: "Quem são estes?"
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 "São, respondeu José, os filhos que Deus me deu aqui". "Faze-os aproximarem-se, para que eu os abençoe".
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Os olhos de Israel tinham-se enfraquecido tanto pela idade, que já não podia ver. José fê-los aproximarem-se dele e Israel, tomando-os em seus braços, beijou-os.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Depois disse a José: "Não esperava mais rever-te, e eis que Deus me fez ver teus filhos".
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 José tirou-os dos joelhos de seu pai e prostrou-se com o rosto por terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 Tomou depois os dois, Efraim pela mão direita, para colocá-lo à esquerda de Israel, e Manassés pela mão esquerda, para colocá-lo à direita de Israel, e fê-los aproximarem-se.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Mas Israel estendeu a mão direita e pô-la sobre a cabeça de Efraim, o caçula, e a mão esquerda sobre a cabeça de Manassés. Cruzou assim as mãos {porque Manassés era o primogênito}.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 Israel abençoou José, dizendo: "O Deus em cujo caminho andaram meus pais Abraão e Isaac, o Deus que tem sido o meu pastor durante toda a minha vida até este dia,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 o anjo que me guardou de todo o mal, abençoe estes meninos! Seja perpetuado neles o meu nome e o de meus pais Abraão e Isaac, e multipliquem-se abundantemente nesta terra!"
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Vendo José que seu pai tinha colocado a mão direita sobre a cabeça de Efraim, contrariou-se e tomou a mão de seu pai para removê-la da cabeça de Efraim para a cabeça de Manassés.
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 E disse-lhe: "Não assim, meu pai; é este aqui o primogênito; põe tua mão direita sobre sua cabeça".
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Seu pai, porém, recusou: "Eu sei, meu filho, disse ele, eu sei. Ele também se tornará um povo e será grande; mas seu irmão mais novo crescerá mais do que ele e sua posteridade tornar-se-á uma multidão de nações".
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 Abençoou-os, pois, naquele dia, e disse: "Israel vos nomeará em suas bênçãos; dir-se-á: Deus te torne semelhante a Efraim e a Manassés". Foi assim que ele pôs Efraim na frente de Manassés.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Israel disse a José: "Vou morrer. Mas Deus estará convosco e vos reconduzirá à terra de vossos pais.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Dou-te a mais que teus irmãos, uma porção que conquistei aos amorreus com minha espada e meu arco".
