Genesis 48

1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Dopo che queste cose furono in tal guisa avvenute, Giuseppe ebbe nuova, come suo padre era ammalato: ed egli presi con sé i due figliuoli, Manasse, ed Ephraim, andò in fretta da lui.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 E fu detto al vecchio: Ecco che il tuo figlio Giuseppe viene a trovarti. Ed egli ripigliate le forze si pose a sedere sul letticciuolo.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 E quando quegli fu entrato gli disse: Dio onnipotente mi apparve a Luza, che è nella terra di Chanaan, e mi benedisse;
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 E disse: T'ingrandirò, e ti moltiplicherò, e ti farò capo di una turba di popoli, e darò questa terra a te, e alla tua stirpe dopo di te in dominio sempiterno.
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 I due figliuoli adunque, che ti sono nati nella terra d'Egitto, prima ch'io venissi a trovarti, saranno miei: Ephraim, e Manasse saran tenuti per miei come Ruben, e Simeon.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Gli altri poi, che ti verranno dopo di questi, saranno tuoi, e porteranno il nome de' loro fratelli nella terra, che ognun di questi possederà.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Imperocché quando io veniva dalla Mesopotamia, mi morì Rachele nella terra di Chanaan nello stesso viaggio, ed era tempo di primavera, stando io per entrare in Ephrata, e la seppellìi presso la strada di Ephrata, che con altro nome è detta Bethlehem.
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 E mirando i suoi figli, disse a lui: Questi chi sono?
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 Rispose: Sono i miei figliuoli donatimi da Dio in questo paese. Fa', che si appressino a me (diss'egli) affinché io li benedica.
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Imperocché gli occhi d'Israele si erano ottenebrati per la gran vecchiaia, e non potea vedere distintamente. Ma appressati che furon quegli a lui, li baciò, e tenendoli tralle sue braccia,
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Disse al suo figlio: Non mi è stato negato di veder te: e di più Dio mi ha fatto vedere la tua stirpe.
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 E Giuseppe avendoli ripigliati dal seno del padre, s'inchinò fino a terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 E pose Ephraim alla sua destra, vale a dire alla sinistra d'Israele; Manasse poi alla sua sinistra, cioè alla destra del padre, e fece che ambedue si accostassero a lui.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Ed egli stesa la mano destra, la pose sul capo di Ephraim fratello minore; e la sinistra sul capo di Manasse, che era il maggior nato, trasponendo le mani.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 E Giacobbe benedisse i figliuoli di Giuseppe, e disse: Dio, alla presenza del quale camminarono i padri miei Abramo, e Isacco, Dio, che è mio pastore dalla mia adolescenza fino al dì d'oggi:
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 L'Angelo, che mi ha liberato da tutti i mali, benedica questi fanciulli: ed ei portino il nome mio, e i nomi ancora de' padri miei Abramo, e Isacco, e moltiplichino sopra la terra.
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Ma veggendo Giuseppe, come il padre avea posta la mano destra sopra il capo di Ephraim, ne ebbe pena grande, e presa la mano del padre tentava di levarla dal capo di Ephraim, e trasportarla sul capo di Manasse.
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 E disse al padre: Non va bene così, o padre; perocché questi è il primogenito: poni la tua destra sul capo di lui.
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Ma quegli ricusò, e disse: Lo so, figliuol mio, lo so; e questi ancora sarà capo di popoli, e moltiplicherà: ma il suo fratello minore sarà maggiore di lui: e la sua stirpe si dilaterà in nazioni.
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 E allora li benedisse, dicendo: Tu sarai modello di benedizione in Israele, e si dirà: Faccia a te Dio, come ad Ephraim e come a Manasse. E pose Ephraim avanti a Manasse.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 E disse a Giuseppe suo figlio: Ecco ch'io mi muoio, e Dio sarà con voi, e vi ricondurrà alla terra de' padri vostri.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Io do a te esclusivamente a' tuoi fratelli quella porzione, che io conquistai sopra gli Amorrei colla spada, e coll'arco mio.
