Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Dopo queste cose fu detto a Giuseppe: "Vedi, tuo padre è ammalato!". Allora egli condusse con sé i suoi due figli Efraim e Manasse.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 Lo riferirono a Giacobbe e gli dissero: "Ecco, tuo figlio Giuseppe è venuto da te". Allora Israele raccolse le forze e si pose seduto sul letto.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 Giacobbe disse a Giuseppe: "Dio onnipotente mi apparve a Luz, nella terra di Canaan e mi benedisse;
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 e mi disse: "Ecco, io ti farò fruttare e ti moltiplicherò e ti renderò un'accolta di popoli, e darò questa terra alla tua discendenza, dopo di te, quale possesso perpetuo".
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Sicché ora i tuoi due figli che ti sono nati nella terra d'Egitto, prima che io arrivassi da te in Egitto, sono miei: Efraim e Manasse saranno miei come Ruben e Simeone.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Invece quelli che tu hai generato dopo di loro, saranno tuoi, col nome dei loro fratelli saranno chiamati nella loro eredità.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Quanto a me, mentre io arrivavo da Paddan, Rachele mi morì nella terra di Canaan, durante il viaggio, quando mancava ancora un tratto di strada per arrivare ad Efrata, e l'ho sepolta là, lungo la strada di Efrata, che è Betlemme".
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 Poi Israele vide i figli di Giuseppe e disse: "Chi sono questi?".
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 Giuseppe rispose a suo padre: "Sono i miei figli che Dio mi ha dato qui". Riprese: "Portameli, di grazia, che io li metta sulle ginocchia".
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Ora gli occhi di Israele erano offuscati dalla vecchiaia: non poteva più distinguere. Egli allora li fece avvicinare a lui, che li baciò e li abbracciò.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Israele disse a Giuseppe: "Io non pensavo di vedere più la tua faccia, ed ecco, Dio mi ha dato di vedere anche la tua figliolanza!".
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 Allora Giuseppe li ritirò dalle sue ginocchia e si prostrò con la faccia a terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 Poi Giuseppe prese ambedue, Efraim con la sua destra, alla sinistra di Israele, e Manasse con la sua sinistra, alla destra di Israele, e li avvicinò a lui.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Ma Israele stese la sua mano destra e la pose sul capo di Efraim, che pure era il più giovane, e la sua sinistra sul capo di Manasse, incrociando le braccia, benché Manasse fosse il primogenito.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 E così benedisse i figli di Giuseppe e disse: "Dio, davanti al quale camminarono i miei padri Abramo e Isacco, Dio che fu il mio pastore dacché esisto fino a questo dì,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 l'Angelo che mi ha liberato da ogni male, benedica questi fanciulli! Sopravviva in essi il mio nome e il nome dei padri miei Abramo e Isacco e si moltiplichino in gran numero in mezzo alla terra!".
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Giuseppe vide che suo padre aveva posato la sua destra sul capo di Efraim, e ciò gli spiacque. Prese perciò la mano di suo padre per levarla dal capo di Efraim e posarla sul capo di Manasse,
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 e disse a suo padre: "Non così, padre mio: è questo il primogenito: posa la tua destra sul suo capo!".
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Ma suo padre ricusò e disse: "Lo so, figlio mio, lo so: anche lui diventerà un popolo, anche lui sarà grande, e tuttavia il suo fratello minore sarà più grande di lui e la sua discendenza diventerà una moltitudine di nazioni".
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 E li benedisse in quel giorno, in questi termini: "Per te Israele benedirà dicendo: Dio ti renda come Efraim e come Manasse!". E così pose Efraim prima di Manasse.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Poi Israele disse a Giuseppe: "Ecco, io sto per morire, ma Dio sarà con voi e vi farà ritornare alla terra dei vostri padri.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Quanto a me, io do a te, in più che ai tuoi fratelli, un dorso di monte, che io tolsi dalle mani degli Amorrei, con la mia spada e il mio arco".
