Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Il arriva, après ces événements, qu'on dit à Joseph: "Voici que ton père est malade!" et il emmenaavec lui ses deux fils, Manassé et Ephraïm.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 Lorsqu'on eut annoncé à Jacob: "Voici ton fils Joseph qui est venu auprès de toi", Israël rassemblases forces et se mit assis sur le lit.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 Puis Jacob dit à Joseph: "El Shaddaï m'est apparu à Luz, au pays de Canaan, il m'a béni
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 et m'a dit: Je te rendrai fécond et je te multiplierai, je te ferai devenir une assemblée de peuples etje donnerai ce pays en possession perpétuelle à tes descendants après toi.
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Maintenant, les deux fils qui te sont nés au pays d'Egypte avant que je ne vienne auprès de toi enEgypte, ils seront miens! Ephraïm et Manassé seront à moi au même titre que Ruben et Siméon.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Quant aux enfants que tu as engendrés après eux, ils seront tiens; ils porteront le nom de leursfrères pour l'héritage.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Lorsque je revenais de Paddân, ta mère Rachel est morte, pour mon malheur, au pays de Canaan,en route, encore un bout de chemin avant d'arriver à Ephrata, et je l'ai enterrée là, sur le chemin d'Ephrata -- c'estBethléem."
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 Israël vit les deux fils de Joseph et demanda: "Qui sont ceux-là" --
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 "Ce sont les fils que Dieu m'a donnés ici", répondit Joseph à son père, et celui-ci reprit: "Amène-les-moi, que je les bénisse."
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Or les yeux d'Israël étaient usés par la vieillesse, il n'y voyait plus, et Joseph les fit approcher delui, qui les embrassa et les serra dans ses bras.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Et Israël dit à Joseph: "Je ne pensais pas revoir ton visage et voici que Dieu m'a fait voir même tesdescendants!"
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 Alors Joseph les retira de son giron et se prosterna, la face contre terre.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 Joseph les prit tous deux, Ephraïm de sa main droite pour qu'il soit à la gauche d'Israël, Manasséde sa main gauche pour qu'il soit à la droite d'Israël, et il les fit approcher de celui-ci.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Mais Israël étendit sa main droite et la posa sur la tête d'Ephraïm, qui était le cadet, et sa maingauche sur la tête de Manassé, en croisant ses mains -- en effet Manassé était l'aîné.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 Il bénit ainsi Joseph: "Que le Dieu devant qui ont marché mes pères Abraham et Isaac, que leDieu qui fut mon pasteur depuis que je vis jusqu'à maintenant,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 que l'Ange qui m'a sauvé de tout mal bénisse ces enfants, que survivent en eux mon nom et lenom de mes ancêtres, Abraham et Isaac, qu'ils croissent et multiplient sur la terre!"
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Cependant Joseph vit que son père mettait sa main droite sur la tête d'Ephraïm et cela lui déplut. Ilsaisit la main de son père pour la détourner de la tête d'Ephraïm sur la tête de Manassé,
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 et Joseph dit à son père: "Pas comme cela, père, car c'est celui-ci l'aîné: mets ta main droite sur satête."
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Mais son père refusa et dit: "Je sais, mon fils, je sais: lui aussi deviendra un peuple, lui aussi seragrand. Pourtant, son cadet sera plus grand que lui, sa descendance deviendra une multitude de nations."
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 En ce jour-là, il les bénit ainsi: "Soyez en bénédiction dans Israël et qu'on dise: Que Dieu te rendesemblable à Ephraïm et à Manassé!" mettant ainsi Ephraïm avant Manassé.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Puis Israël dit à Joseph: "Voici que je vais mourir, mais Dieu sera avec vous et vous ramènera aupays de vos pères.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Pour moi, je te donne un Sichem de plus qu'à tes frères, ce que j'ai conquis sur les Amorites parmon épée et par mon arc."
