Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 ORA, dopo queste cose, fu detto a Giuseppe: Ecco, tuo padre è infermo. Allora egli prese seco i suoi due figliuoli, Manasse ed Efraim.

3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 E Giacobbe disse a Giuseppe: L’Iddio Onnipotente mi apparve in Luz, nel paese di Canaan, e mi benedisse.
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 E mi disse: Ecco, io ti farò moltiplicare, e ti accrescerò, e ti farò divenir raunanza di popoli; e darò questo paese alla tua progenie dopo te, per possession perpetua.
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Ora dunque, i tuoi due figliuoli, che ti son nati nel paese di Egitto, prima che io venissi a te in Egitto, son miei; Efraim e Manasse saranno miei, come Ruben e Simeone.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Ma i figliuoli che tu genererai dopo loro, saranno tuoi; nella loro eredità saranno nominati del nome de’ lor fratelli.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Or, quant’è a me, quando io veniva di Paddan, Rachele morì appresso di me nel paese di Canaan, per cammino, alquanto spazio lungi di Efrata; e io la seppellii quivi nel cammino di Efrata, ch’è Betlehem
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 E Israele, veduti i figliuoli di Giuseppe, disse: Chi son costoro?
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 E Giuseppe disse a suo padre: Sono i miei figliuoli, i quali Iddio mi ha dati qui. E Giacobbe disse: Deh! falli appressare a me, ed io li benedirò.
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Or gli occhi d’Israele erano gravi per la vecchiezza, talchè egli non potea vedere. E Giuseppe glieli fece appressare.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Ed egli li baciò, e li abbracciò. E Israele disse a Giuseppe: Io non pensava di veder mai più la tua faccia; ed ecco, Iddio mi ha fatto vedere eziandio della tua progenie.
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 Poi Giuseppe, fattili levar d’appresso alle ginocchia di esso, s’inchinò con la faccia in terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 E li prese amendue, e pose Efraim alla sua destra, dalla sinistra d’Israele; e Manasse alla sua sinistra, dalla destra d’Israele; e così glieli fece appressare.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 E Israele porse la sua man destra, e la pose sopra il capo di Efraim, ch’era il minore, e pose la sinistra sopra il capo di Manasse; e, benchè Manasse fosse il primogenito, nondimeno avvedutamente pose così le mani.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 E benedisse Giuseppe, e disse: Iddio, nel cui cospetto i miei padri, Abrahamo ed Isacco, son camminati; Iddio, che mi ha pasciuto da che io sono al mondo infino a questo giorno;
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 l’Angelo, che mi ha riscosso d’ogni male, benedica questi fanciulli, e sieno nominati del mio nome, e del nome de’ miei padri, Abrahamo ed Isacco; e moltiplichino copiosamente sulla terra.
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Ora, veggendo Giuseppe che suo padre avea posta la sua man destra sopra il capo di Efraim, ciò gli dispiacque, e prese la mano di suo padre, per rimoverla d’in sul capo di Efraim, e per metterla in sul capo di Manasse.
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 E Giuseppe disse a suo padre: Non così, padre mio; conciossiachè questo sia il primogenito, metti la tua man destra sopra il suo capo.
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Ma suo padre ricusò di farlo, e disse: Io il so, figliuol mio, io il so; ancora esso diventerà un popolo, e ancora esso sarà grande; ma pure il suo fratel minore sarà più grande di lui, e la progenie di esso sarà una piena di genti.
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 Così in quel giorno li benedisse, dicendo: Israele benedirà altrui, prendendone l’esempio in te; dicendo: Iddio ti faccia esser simile ad Efraim ed a Manasse. E Israele antepose Efraim a Manasse.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Poi Israele disse a Giuseppe: Ecco, io muoio, e Iddio sarà con voi, e vi ricondurrà al paese de’ vostri padri.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Ed io ti dono una parte sopra i tuoi fratelli, la quale io ho conquistata dalle mani degli Amorrei con la mia spada e col mio arco
