Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Après cela, on vint dire à Joseph: “Ton père est malade!” Alors il prit avec lui ses deux fils Manassé et Éphraïm.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 On avertit Jacob: “Ton fils Joseph est venu te voir.” Israël rassembla ses forces pour s’asseoir sur son lit.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 Jacob dit à Joseph: “Lorsque le Dieu de la Steppe m’est apparu à Louz, au pays de Canaan, il m’a béni en ces termes:
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 Je te ferai grandir, je te multiplierai, je ferai de toi une communauté de peuples, et je donnerai ce pays à ta descendance après toi, pour qu’elle soit sa propriété pour toujours.
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Aussi je veux prendre aujourd’hui comme mes enfants ces deux fils qui te sont nés en Égypte avant que je te rejoigne: Éphraïm et Manassé sont à moi, au même titre que Ruben et Siméon.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Mais les enfants que tu as eus après eux, resteront à toi: ils recevront de leurs frères aînés leur nom et leur part d’héritage.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Quant à moi, lorsque je venais de Paddân, Rachel mourut dans mes bras au pays de Canaan, sur la route, à une bonne distance d’Éfrata. C’est là que je l’ai enterrée, sur la route d’Éfrata, c’est-à-dire Bethléem.”
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 En voyant les fils de Joseph, Israël demanda: “Ceux-là, qui sont-ils?”
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 Joseph répondit à son père: “Ce sont mes fils! Ce sont les fils que Dieu m’a donnés ici.” Israël lui dit: “Amène-les-moi, je te prie, et je les bénirai.”
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 La vue d’Israël avait beaucoup baissé à cause de son grand âge, et il ne voyait presque plus. Joseph fit donc venir ses deux fils près de son père qui les embrassa et les prit dans ses bras.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 Israël dit à Joseph: “Je ne pensais plus revoir ton visage et voici que Dieu m’a même fait voir tes enfants!”
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 Alors Joseph les retira des bras de son père et se prosterna la face contre terre.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 Puis Joseph prit ses deux fils, Éphraïm à sa droite pour qu’il soit à la gauche d’Israël, et Manassé à sa gauche pour qu’il soit à la droite d’Israël. Et il les fit approcher.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Mais Israël étendit sa main droite et la posa sur la tête d’Éphraïm, qui était le second; croisant ainsi ses mains, il posa sa main gauche sur la tête de Manassé, alors que Manassé était l’aîné.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 Israël bénit Joseph: “Que le Dieu devant qui ont marché mes pères, Abraham et Isaac, que le Dieu qui fut mon berger depuis ma naissance jusqu’à aujourd’hui,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 que l’Ange qui m’a délivré de tout mal, bénisse ces garçons! Que grâce à eux on se souvienne de mon nom, comme du nom de mes pères, Abraham et Isaac! Qu’ils grandissent de plus en plus au milieu du pays!”
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Joseph remarqua que son père plaçait sa main droite sur la tête d’Éphraïm et cela lui déplut. Il prit donc la main de son père pour la déplacer de la tête d’Éphraïm sur la tête de Manassé.
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 Et Joseph dit à son père: “Ne fais pas comme cela, mon père, car c’est celui-ci qui est l’aîné. Pose ta main droite sur sa tête.”
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Son père refusa et répondit: “Je le sais bien, mon fils! Lui aussi deviendra un peuple, lui aussi grandira! Cependant son frère plus jeune deviendra plus grand que lui, et sa descendance deviendra un ensemble de nations.”
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 Il les bénit donc en ce jour, en disant: “Quand on bénira, en Israël, on vous citera en exemple: Que Dieu te rende semblable à Éphraïm et à Manassé”. Mais il plaça Éphraïm avant Manassé.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Israël dit à Joseph: “Je vais mourir, mais Dieu sera avec vous: il vous fera revenir au pays de vos pères.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Voici ce que je te donne de plus qu’à tes frères: cette parcelle de terre, Sichem, que j’ai conquise sur les Amorites par mon épée et par mon arc.”
