Genesis 48

1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 - In seguito, fu annunziato a Giuseppe che il padre suo era ammalato; e, presi con sè i due figli Manasse ed Efraim, andò a trovarlo.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 Fu detto al vecchio: «Ecco, il figlio tuo Giuseppe è venuto». Riconfortato, si pose a sedere sul letto,
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 e quando il figliuolo fu entrato, gli disse: «Iddio onnipotente mi apparve in Luza nella terra di Canaan, mi benedisse,
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 ed aggiunse: - Io ti farò crescere e moltiplicare; caverò da te una quantità di popoli, e darò questa terra in perpetuo possesso a te ed alla tua discendenza. -
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Pertanto, i due figliuoli che ti sono nati in Egitto prima che io qua venissi, saranno miei; Efraim e Manasse si computeranno per miei, come Ruben e Simeone.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Gli altri poi che tu potrai avere dopo di loro, saranno tuoi, e nei loro possessi saranno chiamati col nome dei loro fratelli.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 Quando infatti io venivo dalla Mesopotamia, nel viaggio mi morì Rachele nella terra di Canaan; era di primavera, e stavo per entrare in Efrata; e la seppellii presso la via di Efrata (detta con altro nome Betleem)».
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 Vedendo poi i figli di lui, gli disse: «Questi chi sono?».
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 Rispose: «Sono i miei figliuoli, che Dio mi ha dati in questa terra». Disse Giacobbe: «Fammeli avvicinare, che io li benedica».
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 Gli occhi d'Israele infatti si erano annebbiati per la vecchiezza, e non poteva vederci bene. Fatti dunque avvicinare a sè [i due nipoti], li baciò e li abbracciò,
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 e disse al figliuolo: «Non son stato privato [della gioia] di rivederti, e per di più Dio mi ha fatto vedere i tuoi figli».
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 Giuseppe, toltili dalle braccia del padre, adorò prostrato a terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 Indi, pose Efraim alla propria destra, cioè alla sinistra d'Israele; Manasse poi alla propria sinistra, cioè alla destra del padre; e li avvicinò ambedue a lui.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Questi, incrociando le mani, pose la destra sul capo del fratello minore Efraim, e la sinistra sul capo di Manasse che era il maggiore.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 E benedicendo i figli di Giuseppe, disse Giacobbe: «Iddio, nel cui cospetto camminarono i padri miei Abramo ed Isacco; Iddio che m'ha custodito dalla mia adolescenza insino ad oggi;
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 l'angelo che mi liberò da tutti i mali, benedica questi figliuoli, che portino il nome mio ed i nomi di Abramo e d'Isacco miei padri, e crescano e si moltiplichino sulla terra».
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Ma Giuseppe, vedendo che il padre aveva posta la destra sul capo di Efraim, ne fu dispiacente; presa dunque la mano del padre, si provò a levarla di sul capo di Efraim e portarla su quello di Manasse,
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 dicendo: «Non sta bene così, padre mio; perchè il primogenito è questo; metti la tua destra sul capo di lui».
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Ma Giacobbe si rifiutò, dicendo: «Lo so, figliuol mio, lo so; anche lui si moltiplicherà, e ne usciranno dei popoli; ma il fratello minore crescerà più di lui, e la sua discendenza sarà di nazioni».
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 E li benedisse in quel punto, dicendo: «In ciascuno di voi sarà benedetto Israele, e si dirà [come augurio]: - Dio faccia a te come ad Efraim ed a Manasse». E mise Efraim prima di Manasse.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 Disse poi a Giuseppe suo figlio: «Ecco, io sto per morire, ma Dio sarà con voi, e vi ricondurrà nella terra de' padri vostri.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Lascio a te, in più che ai tuoi fratelli, quella parte ch'io tolsi agli Amorrei con la mia spada ed il mio arco».
