Genesis 35

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'	1 Allora Dio disse a Giacobbe: «Sorgì e sali a Betel e dimora là, e fai un altare a Dio che ti apparve quando fuggivi Esaù tuo fratello ».
2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.	2 E Giacobbe, radunata tutta la sua famiglia, disse: « Gettate via gli dèi stranieri che sono tra voi, purificatevi, e cambiatevi le vesti;
3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'	3 poi venite ed andiamo a Betel per farvi un altare a Dio, che mi esaudì nel giorno della mia tribolazione, e mi accompagnò nel mio viaggio ».
4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.	4 Ed essi gli dettero tutti gli dèi stranieri che avevano ed i monili che avevano agli orecchi; e Giacobbe li sotterrò sotto il terebinto che è al di là di Sichem.
5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.	5 E partiti che furono, il terrore di Dio invase tutte le città che era d'intorno, e cosi non ebbero l'ardire d'inseguirli mentre si ritiravano.
6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,	6 Giacobbe adunque, con tutta la sua gente, giunse a Luza, o Betel, nel paese di Canaan,
7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.	7 vi eresse un altare e chiamò quel luogo col nome di Casa di Dio, perchè li gli era apparso Dio, quando egli fuggiva il suo fratello.
8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.	8 Fu allora che mori Debora, nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta sotto Betel ai piè di una quercia, il qual luogo fu chiamato la Querce del pianto.
9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.	9 E Dio apparve di nuovo a Giacobbe dopo il suo ritorno dalla Mesopotamia di Siria, e lo benedisse,
10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.	10 dicendo: « Tu non sarai più chiamato Giacobbe, ma il tuo nome sarà Israele ». E gli mise nome Israele,
11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.	11 e poi gli disse: « Io sono il Dio Onnipotente; cresci e moltiplica nazioni e gran numero di popoli verranno da te, e dei re usciranno dal tuo sangue.
12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'	12 É darò a te e alla, tua stirpe dopo di te la terra che io diedi ad Abramo e ad Isacco ».
13 Then God went up from him.	13 Poi Dio si partì da lui.
14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.	14 Ed egli eresse un monumento di pietra nel luogo dove Dio gli aveva parlato; ci fece sopra delle libazioni e vi versò dell'olio,
15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.	15 e pose a quel luogo il nome di Betel.
16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.	16 E partitosi di là, giunse, nella primavera, ad un luogo sulla strada che conduce ad Efrata, dove Rachele, sorpresa dai dolori del parto,
17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'	17 essendo il parto difficile, cominciò ad essere in pericolo di vita. Ma la levatrice le diceva: « Non temere: tu avrai anche questo figlio ».
18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.	18 Essa invece rendeva l'anima pel gran dolore, e mentre moriva pose al suo figliolo il nome di Benoni, cioè figlio del mio dolore; ma il padre lo chiamò Beniamino, cioè figlio della destra.
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.	19 Rachele adunque morì e fu sepolta sulla strada che mena ad Efrata, che è Betlemme.
20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.	20 E Giacobbe eresse un monumento sul sepolcro di lei, e questo è il monumento del sepolcro di Rachele, che esiste tuttora.
21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.	21 Partito da quel luogo, piantò il padiglione di là dalla Torre del gregge.
22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.	22 Or mentre egli abitava in quel paese, Ruben andò a dormire con Baia donna di suo padre il quale lo riseppe.
23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.	23 I figli di Giacobbe eran dunque dodici. Figlioli di Lia: Ruben, primogenito, Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Issacar e Zàbulon.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 Figlioli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.
25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.	25 Figlioli di Baia, ancella di Rachele: Dan e Nettali.
26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.	26 Figlioli di Zelfa, ancella di Lia: Gad e Aser. Questi sono i figlioli di Giacobbe che nacquero a lui nella Mesopotamia di Siria.
27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.	27 Giacobbe andò poi a trovare Isacco suo padre a Mambre, alla città di Arbée, che è Ebron, dove Abramo e Isacco stettero pellegrini.
28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old	28 E tutti i giorni di Isacco giunsero a centottanta anni.
29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 E consumato dall'età, morì, e vecchio e pieno di giorni andò a raggiungere i suoi padri, e lo seppellirono Giacobbe ed Esaù suoi figlioli.
