Genesis 35

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'	1 Dio disse a Giacobbe: "Lèvati, sali a Betel e ivi risiedi: fa' colà un altare al Dio che ti è apparso quando fuggivi dalla presenza di Esaù, tuo fratello".
2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.	2 Allora Giacobbe disse alla sua famiglia e a tutti quelli ch'erano con lui: "Togliete di mezzo gli dèi stranieri che stanno fra voi, purificatevi e cambiate le vostre vesti.
3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'	3 Poi leviamoci e saliamo a Betel, dove io voglio fare un altare al Dio che mi ha esaudito al tempo della mia angoscia ed è stato con me nel viaggio che ho fatto".
4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.	4 Essi consegnarono a Giacobbe tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano e i pendenti che avevano agli orecchi e Giacobbe li sotterrò sotto la quercia che è presso Sichem.
5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.	5 Poi levarono l'accampamento e un terrore molto forte assalì le città che stavano attorno a loro, così che non inseguirono i figli di Giacobbe.
6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,	6 Così Giacobbe giunse a Luz, cioè a Betel, che è nella terra di Canaan, con tutto il popolo che era con lui.
7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.	7 Ivi egli costruì un altare e chiamò quel luogo El-Betel, perché là Dio si era rivelato a lui quando fuggiva dalla presenza di suo fratello.
8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.	8 Allora morì Debora, la nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al di sotto di Betel, ai piedi della quercia, che perciò fu chiamata "Quercia del pianto".
9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.	9 Un'altra volta Dio apparve a Giacobbe quando veniva da Paddan-Aram, e lo benedisse.
10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.	10 Dio gli disse: "Il tuo nome è Giacobbe; non sarai più chiamato Giacobbe, bensì Israele sarà il nome tuo". Così lo si chiamò Israele.
11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.	11 E Dio gli disse: "Io sono Dio onnipotente: sii fecondo e moltiplicati: una nazione, anzi un'accolta di nazioni procederà da te, e dei re usciranno dai tuoi fianchi.
12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'	12 E darò a te la terra che ho dato ad Abramo e a Isacco; e alla tua discendenza dopo di te io darò quella terra".
13 Then God went up from him.	13 Poi Dio risalì allontanandosi da lui, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato.
14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.	14 Allora Giacobbe eresse una stele sacra, nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato, una stele di pietra, sulla quale fece una libagione, versando olio sopra di essa.
15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.	15 Giacobbe chiamò quel luogo, dove Dio gli aveva parlato, Betel.
16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.	16 Poi levarono l'accampamento da Betel. Quando mancava ancora un tratto di cammino per arrivare ad Efrata, Rachele partorì, ed ebbe un parto difficile.
17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'	17 Mentre soffriva per la difficoltà del parto, la levatrice le disse: "Non temere: anche questa volta hai un figlio!".
18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.	18 Or mentre le sfuggiva l'anima, perché stava morendo, ella lo chiamò Ben-Oni, ma suo padre lo chiamò Beniamino.
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.	19 Così morì Rachele e fu sepolta lungo la strada verso Efrata, cioè Betlemme.
20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.	20 Giacobbe eresse sulla sua sepoltura una stele. E' la stele della tomba di Rachele che esiste ancora oggi.
21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.	21 Poi Israele levò l'accampamento e rizzò la sua tenda al di là di Migdal-Eder.
22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.	22 E avvenne che, mentre Israele abitava in quella regione, Ruben andò a giacere con Bila, concubina di suo padre, e Israele lo venne a sapere. I figli di Giacobbe furono dodici.
23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.	23 I figli di Lia: Ruben il primogenito, poi Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Issacar e Zabulon.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 I figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.
25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.	25 I figli di Bila, schiava di Rachele: Dan e Neftali.
26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.	26 I figli di Zilpa, schiava di Lia: Gad e Aser. Questi sono i figli di Giacobbe che gli nacquero in Paddan-Aram.
27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.	27 Poi Giacobbe venne da Isacco, suo padre, a Mamre, a Kiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron, dove Abramo e Isacco avevano soggiornato.
28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old	28 Isacco raggiunse l'età di centottant'anni.
29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 Poi Isacco spirò, morì e fu riunito al popolo suo, vecchio e sazio di giorni. Lo seppellirono i suoi figli Esaù e Giacobbe.
