1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'	1 Frattanto il Signore disse a Giacobbe: Sorgi, e va' in Bethel, e ivi fermati, e fa' un altare a Dio, il quale ti apparve allorché fuggivi Esaù tuo fratello.
2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.	2 E Giacobbe, raunata tutta la sua famiglia, disse: Gettate via gli dei stranieri, che avete tra voi, e mondatevi, e cangiate le vostre vesti.
3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'	3 Venite, e andiamo a Bethel per far ivi un altare a Dio: il quale mi esaudì nel giorno di mia tribolazione, e mi accompagnò nel mio viaggio.
4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.	4 Diedero pertanto a lui tutti gli dei stranieri che aveano, e gli orecchini, che quegli avevano alle orecchie: ed egli li sotterrò sotto il terebinto, che è di là dalla città di Sichem.
5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.	5 E partiti ch'ei furono, il terrore di Dio invase tutte le città all'intorno, e non ardirono d'inseguirli, mentre si ritiravano.
6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,	6 Giacobbe adunque, egli, e tutta la sua gente con lui arrivò a Luza cognominata Bethel nella terra di Chanaan.
7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.	7 E ivi edificò l'altare, e a quel luogo pose il nome di Casa di Dio: perocché ivi apparve Dio a lui, quando fuggiva il fratel suo.
8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.	8 Nello stesso tempo si morì Debora, balia di Rebecca, e fu sepolta appiè di Bethel sotto una quercia: e fu chiamato quel luogo la Quercia del pianto.
9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.	9 E Dio apparve a Giacobbe la seconda volta, dopo il suo ritorno dalla Mesopotamia della Siria, e lo benedisse,
10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.	10 Dicendo: Tu non ti chiamerai più Giacobbe, ma il tuo nome sarà Israele. E chiamollo Israele.
11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.	11 E soggiunsegli: Io il Dio onnipotente; cresci, moltiplica: tu sarai capo di nazioni, e di popoli, da te usciranno de' re.
12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'	12 E la terra, che io diedi ad Abramo, e ad Isacco, la darò a te, e alla tua stirpe dopo di te.
13 Then God went up from him.	13 E partissi da lui.
14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.	14 Ed egli eresse un monumento di pietra nel luogo, dove Dio gli avea parlato: facendovi sopra le libagioni, e versandovi dell'olio:
15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.	15 E pose a quel luogo il nome di Bethel.
16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.	16 E partitosi di colà andò nella primavera ad un luogo sulla strada di Ephrata: dove venendo i dolori di parto a Rachele,
17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'	17 Essendo il parto difficile, cominciò ad essere in pericolo. E la levatrice le disse: Non temere; tu avrai ancora questo figliuolo.
18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.	18 E stando ella per rendere l'anima pel dolore, e già in braccio alla morte, pose al figlio suo il nome di Benoni, cioè figliuolo del mio dolore: ma il padre chiamollo Beniamin, cioè figlio della destra.
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.	19 Morì adunque Rachele, e fu sepolta sulla strada, che mena ad Ephrata, che è Bethlehem.
20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.	20 E Giacobbe eresse sulla sepoltura di lei un monumento: Questo è il monumento di Rachele fino al dì d'oggi.
21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.	21 Partitosi di là, piantò il padiglione di là della torre del gregge.
22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.	22 E mentre egli si stava in quel paese, Ruben andò, e dormì con Bala concubina di suo padre: e questi non lo ignorò. Or dodici erano i figliuoli di Giacobbe.
23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.	23 Figliuoli di Lia: primogenito Ruben, e Simeon, e Levi, e Giuda, e Issachar, e Zabulon.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 Figliuoli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamin.
25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.	25 Figliuoli di Bala, schiava di Rachele: Dan, e Nephtali.
26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.	26 Figliuoli di Zelpha, schiava di Lia: Gad, e Aser: questi sono i figliuoli di Giacobbe, che a lui nacquero nella Mesopotamia della Siria.
27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.	27 Andò poscia a trovar Isacco suo padre a Mambre, alla città di Arbee, che è Hebron, dove Abramo, e Isacco stettero pellegrini.
28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old	28 E tutti i giorni d'Isacco furono cento ottanta anni.
29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 E consumato d'età si morì, e vecchio, e pieno di giorni si riunì al suo popolo: e Giacobbe ed Esaù suoi figliuoli lo seppellirono.
