Genesis 35

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'	1 Dios dijo a Jacob: «Levántate, sube a Betel y te estableces allí, haciendo un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.»
2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.	2 Jacob dijo a su casa y a todos los que le acompañaban: «Retirad los dioses extraños que hay entre vosotros. Purificaos, y mudaos de vestido.
3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'	3 Luego, levantémonos y subamos a Betel, y haré allí un altar al Dios que me dio respuesta favorable el día de mi tribulación, y que me asistió en mi viaje.»
4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.	4 Ellos entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses extraños que había en su poder, y los anillos de sus orejas, y Jacob los escondió debajo de la encina que hay al pie de Siquem.
5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.	5 Partieron, pues, y un pánico divino cayó sobre las ciudades de sus contornos; así no persiguieron a los hijos de Jacob.
6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,	6 Jacob llegó a Luz, que está en territorio cananeo - es Betel - junto con todo el pueblo que le acompañaba,
7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.	7 y edificó allí un altar, llamando al lugar El Betel, porque allí mismo se le había aparecido Dios cuando huía de su hermano.
8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.	8 Débora, la nodriza de Rebeca, murió y fue sepultada en las inmediaciones de Betel, debajo de una encina; y él la llamó la Encina del Llanto.
9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.	9 Dios se apareció a Jacob una vez más a su llegada de Paddán Aram y le bendijo.
10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.	10 Díjole Dios: «Tu nombre es Jacob, pero ya no te llamarás Jacob, sino que tu nombre será Israel.» Y le llamó Israel.
11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.	11 Díjole Dios: «Yo soy El Sadday. Sé fecundo y multiplícate. Un pueblo, una asamblea de pueblos tomará origen de ti y saldrán reyes de tus entrañas.
12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'	12 La tierra que di a Abraham e Isaac, a ti te la doy, y a tu descendencia y sucesión daré esta tierra.»
13 Then God went up from him.	13 Y Dios subió de su lado.
14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.	14 Jacob erigió una estela en el lugar donde había hablado Dios con él: una estela de piedra; derramó sobre ella una libación, y vertió sobre ella aceite.
15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.	15 Jacob llamó a lugar donde había hablado Dios con él «Betel».
16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.	16 Partieron de Betel, y cuando aún faltaba un trecho hasta Efratá, Raquel tuvo un mal parto.
17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'	17 Sucedió que, en medio de los apuros del parto, le dijo la comadrona: «¡Animo, que también este es hijo!»
18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.	18 Entonces ella, al exhalar el alma, cuando moría, le llamó Ben Oní; pero su padre le llamó Benjamín.
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.	19 Murió Raquel y fue sepultada en el camino de Efratá, o sea Belén.
20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.	20 Jacob erigió una estela sobre su sepulcro: es la estela del sepulcro de Raquel hasta hoy.
21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.	21 Israel partió y desplegó su tienda más allá de Migdal Eder.
22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.	22 Sucedió por entonces, mientras Israel residía en aquel país, que fue Rubén y se acostó con Bilhá, la concubina de su padre, e Israel se enteró de ello. Los hijos de Jacob fueron doce.
23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.	23 Hijos de Lía: el primogénito de Jacob, Rubén; después Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 Hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín.
25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.	25 Hijos de Bilhá, la esclava de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí.
26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.	26 Hijos de Zilpá, la esclava de Lía: Gad y Aser. Estos fueron los hijos de Jacob, que le nacieron en Paddán Aram.
27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.	27 Jacob llegó adonde su padre Isaac, a Mambré o Quiryat Arbá, - o sea, Hebrón - donde residieron Abraham e Isaac.
28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old	28 Isaac alcanzó la edad de 180 años.
29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 Entonces Isaac expiró y murió, fue a reunirse con su pueblo, anciano y lleno de días. Le sepultaron sus hijos Esaú y Jacob.
