Genesis 35

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'	1 - Disse frattanto Dio a Giacobbe: «Muoviti, e sali a Betel; ivi fermati, e fa' un altare a Dio che ti apparve quando fuggivi Esaù tuo fratello».
2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.	2 Giacobbe dunque, convocata tutta la famiglia, disse: «Gettate via gli dèi stranieri che sono fra voi, mondatevi, e cambiatevi le vesti.
3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'	3 Levatevi, e saliremo a Betel per farvi un altare a Dio, che m'esaudì al tempo della mia tribolazione, e mi accompagnò nel mio viaggio».
4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.	4 Gli consegnarono dunque tutti gli dèi stranieri che possedevano, e gli orecchini che avevano agli orecchi; ed egli li sotterrò sotto il terebinto che è al di là della città di Sichem.
5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.	5 Partiti che furono, Dio riempì di terrore tutte le circostanti città, che non osarono inseguire quelli che s'allontanavano.
6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,	6 Venne dunque Giacobbe in Luza, chiamata "Betel", nella terra di Canaan, e tutta la sua gente era con lui.
7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.	7 Edificò un altare, e chiamò quel luogo col nome di "Casa di Dio", perchè ivi Dio gli era apparso quando fuggiva il fratello suo.
8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.	8 In quel tempo morì Debora nutrice di Rebecca, e fu sepolta al disotto di Betel, a piè d'una quercia, e quel luogo fu chiamato "Querce del pianto".
9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.	9 Apparve Dio un'altra volta a Giacobbe dopo che fu tornato dalla Mesopotamia di Siria, e lo benedisse,
10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.	10 dicendogli: «Non ti chiamerai più Giacobbe, ma il tuo nome sarà Israele». E lo chiamò Israele,
11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.	11 e gli disse: «Io sono Iddio onnipotente; cresci e moltiplicati; genti e popoli e nazioni da te usciranno; dei re saranno tuoi discendenti;
12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'	12 la terra che detti ad Abramo e ad Isacco, la darò a te ed alla tua discendenza dopo di te».
13 Then God went up from him.	13 Poi disparve da lui.
14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.	14 Giacobbe dunque nel luogo dove gli aveva parlato Iddio alzò un monumento di pietra, versandovi sopra delle libazioni, spargendovi olio,
15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.	15 e chiamando quel luogo col nome di "Betel".
16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.	16 Partito di lì, giunse in primavera nella terra che conduce ad Efrata. Ivi Rachele, essendo di parto,
17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'	17 per la difficoltà del parto cominciò a correr pericolo. La levatrice le diceva: «Non temere, che avrai anche questo figliuolo».
18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.	18 Stando però essa per morire dal dolore, così vicina a morte, chiamò il figlio suo Benoni, cioè Figlio del mio dolore; ma il padre lo chiamò Beniamino, cioè Figlio della destra.
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.	19 Morì dunque Rachele, e fu sepolta sulla via che conduce ad Efrata, cioè a Betleem.
20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.	20 Giacobbe alzò un monumento sul sepolcro di lei; ed è quello chiamato anc'oggi "Il monumento di Rachele".
21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.	21 Partitosi poi di lì, fermò le tende al di là della Torre del gregge.
22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.	22 Ma, mentre era per quelle parti, Ruben andò, e dormì con Bala, donna del padre suo, il quale lo venne a sapere. Eran dunque dodici i figli di Giacobbe.
23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.	23 Figli di Lia: Ruben, primogenito, Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Issacar e Zabulon.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 Figli di Rachele: Giuseppe e Beniamino.
25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.	25 Figli di Bala ancella di Rachele: Dan e Neftali.
26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.	26 Figli di Zelfa ancella di Lia: Gad e Aser. Son questi i figli di Giacobbe, natigli in Mesopotamia di Siria.
27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.	27 Tornò in ultimo Giacobbe al padre suo Isacco in Mambre città d'Arbee, cioè Hebron, dove Abramo ed Isacco eran venuti pellegrini.
28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old	28 L'età d'Isacco giunse a centottant'anni.
29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 Allora consumato dall'età morì, ed andò a riunirsi al suo popolo, vecchio, pieno di giorni, ed Esaù e Giacobbe suoi figli lo seppellirono.
