Genesis 35

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'	1 Dios dijo a Jacob: «Sube a Betel y permanece allí. Levanta allí un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú».
2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.	2 Entonces Jacob dijo a sus familiares y a todos los demás que estaban con él: «Dejen de lado todos los dioses extraños que tengan con ustedes, purifíquense y cámbiense de ropa.
3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'	3 Ahora subiremos a Betel, y allí levantaré un altar al Dios que me respondió cuando estuve angustiado, y que estuvo conmigo en el viaje que realicé».
4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.	4 Ellos entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses extraños que tenían consigo y los aros que llevaban en sus orejas. Y Jacob los enterró debajo de la encina que está cerca de Siquem.
5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.	5 Cuando partieron, Dios hizo cundir el pánico entre las poblaciones vecinas, de manera que nadie persiguió a los hijos de Jacob.
6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,	6 Así Jacob llegó a Luz –o sea, Betel– en la tierra de Canaán, junto con toda la gente que lo acompañaba.
7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.	7 Allí erigió un altar, y puso a ese lugar el nombre de Betel, porque allí se le había revelado Dios, cuando él huía de su hermano.
8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.	8 Mientras tanto murió Débora, la nodriza de Rebeca, y fue sepultada bajo la encina que se encuentra antes de llegar a Betel. Por eso se la llamó «Encina del llanto».
9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.	9 Cuando Jacob regresó de Padán Aram, Dios se le apareció de nuevo y lo bendijo,
10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.	10 diciéndole: «Tu nombre es Jacob. Pero en adelante no te llamarás Jacob, sino Israel». Así le puso el nombre de Israel.
11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.	11 Luego añadió: «Yo soy el Dios Todopoderoso. Sé fecundo y multiplícate. De ti nacerá una nación, más aún, una asamblea de naciones, y saldrán reyes de tus entrañas.
12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'	12 La tierra que di a Abraham y a Isaac, ahora te la doy a ti y a tu descendencia».
13 Then God went up from him.	13 Y Dios se alejó de él.
14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.	14 Jacob erigió una piedra conmemorativa en el lugar donde Dios le había hablado. En seguida ofreció una libación sobre ella y ungió la piedra con aceite.
15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.	15 Jacob llamó Betel a aquel lugar, porque allí Dios había hablado con él.
16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.	16 Partieron de Betel, y cuando todavía faltaba un trecho para llegar a Efratá, a Raquel le llegó el momento de dar a luz, y tuvo un parto difícil.
17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'	17 Como daba a luz muy penosamente, la partera le dijo» «¡No temas, porque tienes otro hijo varón!».
18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.	18 Con su último aliento –porque ya se moría– lo llamó Ben Oní; pero su padre le puso el nombre de Benjamín.
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.	19 Así murió Raquel, y fue enterrada junto al camino de Efratá, o sea, de Belén.
20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.	20 Sobre su tumba Jacob erigió un monumento, el mismo que está en esa tumba hasta el día de hoy.
21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.	21 Israel siguió avanzando, y estableció su campamento más allá de Migdal Eder.
22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.	22 Mientras acampaba en aquella región, Rubén se acostó con Bilhá, la concubina de su padre, e Israel se enteró.
23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.	23 Los hijos de Lía fueron Rubén, el primogénito de Jacob, Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.	24 Los hijos de Raquel fueron José y Benjamín.
25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.	25 Los hijos de Bilhá, la esclava de Raquel, fueron Dan y Neftalí.
26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.	26 Los hijos de Zilpá, la esclava de Lía, fueron Gad y Aser. Estos son los hijos que le nacieron a Jacob en Padán Aram.
27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.	27 Jacob llegó a la casa de su padre Isaac, en Mamré, En Quiriat Arbá –la actual Hebrón– donde también había residido Abraham.
28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old	28 Isaac vivió ciento ochenta años.
29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.	29 Al término de ellos murió, anciano y cargado de años, y fue a reunirse con los suyos. Sus hijos Esaú y Jacob le dieron sepultura.
