Genesis 21

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 Yahweh treated Sarah as he had said, and did what he had promised her.	1 Ora o Senhor visitou Sara, como tinha prometido, e cumpriu o que tinha dito.
2 Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the time God had promised.	2 Ela concebeu e deu à luz um filho, na sua velhice, no tempo que Deus lhe predissera.
3 Abraham named the son born to him Isaac, the son to whom Sarah had given birth.	3 Abraão pôs o nome de Isaac ao filho que nascera de Sara,
4 Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.	4 e circuncidou-o ao oitavo dia, como Deus lhe tinha ordenado.
5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.	5 Tinha Abraão cem anos, quando lhe nasceu seu filho Isaac.
6 Sarah said: God has given me cause to laugh! Al who hear about this wil laugh with me!	6 E Sara disse: Deus me deu (um motivo de)) riso, e todo aquele que ouvir (a nova) rirá juntamente comigo
7 She added: Whoever would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children! Yet I have borne ason in his old age.	7 E acrescentou; quem acreditaria que Abraão havia de ouvir dizer que Sara amamentaria um filho, que lhe havia de dar à luz, sendo ele já velho?
8 The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham gave a great banquet on the day Isaac was weaned.	8 Entretanto cresceu o menino e foi desmamado; no dia em que foi desmamado, deu Abraão um grande banquete.
9 Now Sarah watched the son that Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham, playing with her sonIsaac.	9 Sara, porém, tendo visto o filho de Agar egípcia, que escarnecia de seu filho Isaac, disse para Abraão:
10 'Drive away that slave-girl and her son,' she said to Abraham, 'this slave-girl's son is not to share theinheritance with my son Isaac.'	10 expulsa esta escrava e o seu filho, porque o filho da escrava não há-de ser herdeiro com meu filho Isaac.
11 This greatly distressed Abraham, because the slave-girl's child too was his son,	11 Este falar foi duro para Abraão por causa de seu filho (Ismael).
12 but God said to him, 'Do not distress yourself on account of the boy and your slave-girl. Do whateverSarah says, for Isaac is the one through whom your name wil be carried on.	12 Deus, porém, disse-lhe: não te pareça áspero tratar assim o menino e a tua escrava. Atende Sara em tudo o que ela te disser, porque de Isaac sairá a descendência que há-de ter o teu nome.
13 But the slave-girl's son I shal also make into a great nation, for he too is your child.'	13 Mas também do filho da escrava farei um grande povo, por ser teu sangue.
14 Early next morning, Abraham took some bread and a skin of water and, giving them to Hagar, putthe child on her shoulder and sent her away. She wandered off into the desert of Beersheba.	14 Abraão, pois, levantou-se de manhã, tomou pão e um odre de água, pô-lo ás costas de Agar, entregou-lhe o menino e despediu-a. Ela, tendo partido, andava errando pelo deserto de Bersabeia.
15 When the skin of water was finished she abandoned the child under a bush.	15 Quando se acabou a água do odre, deixou o menino deitado debaixo duma das árvores, que ali havia,
16 Then she went and sat down at a distance, about a bowshot away, thinking, 'I cannot bear to see thechild die.' Sitting at a distance, she began to sob.	16 afastou-se, e sentou-se defronte, à distância dum tiro de flecha, dizendo: não verei morrer o menino. Sentando-se em frente, levantou a sua voz e chorou.
17 God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven. 'What is wrong,Hagar?' he asked. 'Do not be afraid, for God has heard the boy's cry in his plight.	17 Deus ouviu a voz do menino, e o anjo de Deus chamou Agar do céu, dizendo: que fazes, Agar? Não temas, porque Deus ouviu a voz do menino do lugar em que está.
18 Go and pick the boy up and hold him safe, for I shal make him into a great nation.'	18 Levanta-te, toma o menino, tem-no pela mão, porque eu farei dele um grande povo.
19 Then God opened Hagar's eyes and she saw a well, so she went and fil ed the skin with water andgave the boy a drink.	19 E Deus abriu-lhe os olhos, e ela, vendo um poço de água, foi a ele, encheu o odre e deu de beber ao menino.
20 God was with the boy. He grew up and made his home in the desert, and he became an archer.	20 E (Deus) foi com ele, que cresceu, habitou no deserto e que, depois de crescido, se tornou frecheiro.
21 He made his home in the desert of Paran, and his mother got him a wife from Egypt.	21 Habitou no deserto de Faran, e sua mãe tomou para ele uma mulher do pais do Egito.
22 About then, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, 'Since God is withyou in everything you do,	22 Por aquele mesmo tempo, Abilmelech, acompanhado de Ficol, general do seu exército, disse a Abraão: Deus é contigo em tudo o que fazes.
23 swear to me by God, here and now, that you wil not act treacherously towards me or my kith andkin, but behave with the same faithful love to me and the land of which you are a guest as I have behaved toyou.'	23 Portanto jura por Deus que me não farás mal, nem aos meus descendentes, nem à minha estirpe, mas que usarás comigo e com a terra onde tens vivido como estrangeiro, da mesma benevolência com que te tratei.
24 'Yes,' Abraham replied, 'I swear it.'	24 Abraão disse: eu o jurarei.
25 Abraham then reproached Abimelech about a well that Abimelech's servants had seized.	25 Mas Abraão queixou-se a Abimelech por cousa dum poço de água, que os seus servos lhe tinham tirado à força.
26 'I do not know who has done this,' Abimelech said. 'You yourself have never mentioned it to me and,for myself, I heard nothing of it til today.'	26 Abimelech respondeu: eu não soube quem fez tal coisa, nem tão pouco tu me informaste, e eu não ouvi falar (disso) senão hoje.
27 Abraham then took sheep and cattle and presented them to Abimelech, and the two of them made acovenant.	27 Tomou, pois, Abraão ovelhas e bois, deu-os a Abimelech e fizeram ambos aliança.
28 Abraham put seven lambs of the flock on one side.	28 Abraão pôs à parte sete cordeiras do rebanho
29 'Why have you put these seven lambs on one side?' Abimelech asked Abraham.	29 e Abimelech perguntou-lhe: que querem dizer estas sete cordeiras, que puseste à parte?
30 He replied, 'You must accept these seven lambs from me as evidence that I have dug this wel .'	30 Ele respondeu: tu receberás estas sete cordeiras da minha mão, para que elas me sirvam de testemunho de como eu cavei este poço.
31 This was why the place was cal ed Beersheba: because there the two of them swore an oath.	31 Por isso foi aquele lugar chamado Bersabeia, porque ali juraram ambos.
32 After they had made a covenant at Beersheba, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army,left and went back to Philistine territory.	32 E (foi assim que) fizeram aliança junto do poço do juramento.
33 And Abraham planted a tamarisk at Beersheba and there he invoked the name of Yahweh.	33 Abimelech levantou-se, com Ficol, general do seu exército, e voltaram para a terra dos filisteus. Abraão plantou uma tamargueira em Bersabeia, e aí invocou o nome do Senhor Deus eterno.
34 Abraham stayed for a long while in Philistine territory.	34 E foi por longo tempo morador na terra dos filisteus.
