1 Yahweh treated Sarah as he had said, and did what he had promised her.	1 Yahvé visita Sara comme il l’avait dit et il accomplit envers elle sa promesse.
2 Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the time God had promised.	2 Sara conçut, elle donna un fils à Abraham en sa vieillesse, au temps marqué par Dieu.
3 Abraham named the son born to him Isaac, the son to whom Sarah had given birth.	3 Abraham donna le nom d’Isaac à ce fils qui lui était né de Sara.
4 Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.	4 Lorsque son fils Isaac fut âgé de huit jours, Abraham le circoncit selon l’ordre de Dieu.
5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.	5 À la naissance de son fils Isaac, Abraham avait déjà 100 ans.
6 Sarah said: God has given me cause to laugh! Al who hear about this wil laugh with me!	6 Sara dit alors: “Dieu m’a bien donné l’occasion de rire, et ceux qui l’apprendront riront aussi à mon sujet.”
7 She added: Whoever would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children! Yet I have borne ason in his old age.	7 Elle ajouta: “Qui aurait dit à Abraham: Sara allaitera des fils? Et pourtant je lui ai donné un fils dans sa vieillesse.”
8 The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham gave a great banquet on the day Isaac was weaned.	8 L’enfant grandit et fut sevré. Abraham fit un grand festin le jour où Isaac fut sevré.
9 Now Sarah watched the son that Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham, playing with her sonIsaac.	9 À cette occasion Sara vit comment le fils de l’Égyptienne Agar, le fils qu’elle avait donné à Abraham, s’amusait de son fils Isaac.
10 'Drive away that slave-girl and her son,' she said to Abraham, 'this slave-girl's son is not to share theinheritance with my son Isaac.'	10 Elle dit à Abraham: “Chasse-moi cette servante et son fils; le fils de cette servante ne doit pas hériter avec le mien, avec Isaac.”
11 This greatly distressed Abraham, because the slave-girl's child too was his son,	11 Cela déplut beaucoup à Abraham, parce que c’était son garçon.
12 but God said to him, 'Do not distress yourself on account of the boy and your slave-girl. Do whateverSarah says, for Isaac is the one through whom your name wil be carried on.	12 Mais Dieu dit à Abraham: “Ne te tourmente pas au sujet de ton garçon et de ta servante. Fais donc tout ce que Sara te demande, car c’est le nom d’Isaac que portera ta descendance.
13 But the slave-girl's son I shal also make into a great nation, for he too is your child.'	13 Mais je ferai que le fils de ta servante devienne lui aussi une nation puisqu’il est de ta descendance.”
14 Early next morning, Abraham took some bread and a skin of water and, giving them to Hagar, putthe child on her shoulder and sent her away. She wandered off into the desert of Beersheba.	14 Abraham se leva de bon matin, il prit du pain et une outre d’eau et les donna à Agar. Il mit ensuite l’enfant sur son épaule et la renvoya. Elle partit alors à l’aventure dans le désert de Bersabée.
15 When the skin of water was finished she abandoned the child under a bush.	15 Lorsqu’il n’y eut plus d’eau dans l’outre, elle abandonna l’enfant sous un buisson
16 Then she went and sat down at a distance, about a bowshot away, thinking, 'I cannot bear to see thechild die.' Sitting at a distance, she began to sob.	16 et s’assit à la distance d’une portée d’arc. Elle se disait: “Je ne veux pas voir mourir mon enfant!” Comme elle allait s’asseoir en face, l’enfant commença à pleurer et à crier.
17 God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven. 'What is wrong,Hagar?' he asked. 'Do not be afraid, for God has heard the boy's cry in his plight.	17 Dieu entendit la voix de l’enfant et l’Ange de Dieu, du haut du ciel, appela Agar. Il lui dit: “Qu’as-tu, Agar? N’aie pas peur, Dieu a entendu la voix de l’enfant, de l’endroit où il se trouve.
18 Go and pick the boy up and hold him safe, for I shal make him into a great nation.'	18 Lève-toi, prends ton enfant et tiens-le ferme de la main. Je ferai de lui une grande nation.”
19 Then God opened Hagar's eyes and she saw a well, so she went and fil ed the skin with water andgave the boy a drink.	19 Alors Dieu lui ouvrit les yeux et elle aperçut un puits. Elle alla remplir d’eau son outre et fit boire l’enfant.
20 God was with the boy. He grew up and made his home in the desert, and he became an archer.	20 Dieu veilla sur la croissance de cet enfant; il séjourna au désert et devint tireur à l’arc.
21 He made his home in the desert of Paran, and his mother got him a wife from Egypt.	21 Il séjourna au désert de Paran et sa mère prit pour lui une femme au pays d’Égypte.
22 About then, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, 'Since God is withyou in everything you do,	22 En ces jours-là, Abimélek et Pikol, le chef de son armée, vinrent trouver Abraham et lui dirent: “Dieu est avec toi dans tout ce que tu fais.
23 swear to me by God, here and now, that you wil not act treacherously towards me or my kith andkin, but behave with the same faithful love to me and the land of which you are a guest as I have behaved toyou.'	23 Jure-moi donc maintenant sur Dieu, de ne tromper ni moi, ni ma famille, ni ma descendance, et d’avoir pour moi et pour ce pays où tu séjournes la même attitude bienveillante que j’ai eue pour toi.”
24 'Yes,' Abraham replied, 'I swear it.'	24 Abraham répondit: “Je le jure.”
25 Abraham then reproached Abimelech about a well that Abimelech's servants had seized.	25 Cependant Abraham fit des reproches à Abimélek au sujet d’un puits que les serviteurs d’Abimélek avaient pris.
26 'I do not know who has done this,' Abimelech said. 'You yourself have never mentioned it to me and,for myself, I heard nothing of it til today.'	26 Abimélek répondit: “Je ne sais pas qui a fait cela; tu ne m’as rien dit jusqu’à ce jour, et moi de mon côté je n’en savais rien.”
27 Abraham then took sheep and cattle and presented them to Abimelech, and the two of them made acovenant.	27 Abraham prit du petit bétail et du gros bétail, il les donna à Abimélek et tous deux conclurent une alliance.
28 Abraham put seven lambs of the flock on one side.	28 Sur le petit bétail, Abraham mit de côté sept brebis.
29 'Why have you put these seven lambs on one side?' Abimelech asked Abraham.	29 Abimélek lui demanda donc: “Pourquoi as-tu mis ces sept brebis de côté?”
30 He replied, 'You must accept these seven lambs from me as evidence that I have dug this wel .'	30 Abraham répondit: “C’est pour que tu acceptes de ma main ces sept brebis et qu’elles soient un témoignage que c’est bien moi qui ai creusé ce puits.”
31 This was why the place was cal ed Beersheba: because there the two of them swore an oath.	31 C’est pourquoi on a appelé cet endroit Bersabée (c’est-à-dire: Puits des Sept ou encore: Puits du Serment), car c’est là qu’ils avaient tous les deux prêté serment.
32 After they had made a covenant at Beersheba, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army,left and went back to Philistine territory.	32 Ils conclurent donc une alliance à Bersabée, puis Abimélek et Pikol, le chef de son armée, se levèrent et retournèrent au pays des Philistins.
33 And Abraham planted a tamarisk at Beersheba and there he invoked the name of Yahweh.	33 Abraham planta un arbre à Bersabée et il y invoqua le nom de Yahvé, le Dieu éternel.
34 Abraham stayed for a long while in Philistine territory.	34 Abraham séjourna longtemps encore au pays des Philistins.
