NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
Finally, brothers, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you,1 For the rest, brethren, pray for us, that the word of God may run, and may be glorified, even as among you;
and that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith.2 And that we may be delivered from importunate and evil men; for all men have not faith.
But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.3 But God is faithful, who will strengthen and keep you from evil.
We are confident of you in the Lord that what we instruct you, you (both) are doing and will continue to do.4 And we have confidence concerning you in the Lord, that the things which we command, you both do, and will do.
May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ.5 And the Lord direct your hearts, in the charity of God, and the patience of Christ.
We instruct you, brothers, in the name of (our) Lord Jesus Christ,to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us.6 And we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother walking disorderly, and not according to the tradition which they have received of us.
For you know how one must imitate us. For we did not act in a disorderly way among you,7 For yourselves know how you ought to imitate us: for we were not disorderly among you;
nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you.8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing, but in labour and in toil we worked night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you.
Not that we do not have the right. Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us.9 Not as if we had not power: but that we might give ourselves a pattern unto you, to imitate us.
In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.10 For also when we were with you, this we declared to you: that, if any man will not work, neither let him eat.
We hear that some are conducting themselves among you in a disorderly way, by not keeping busy but minding the business ofothers.11 For we have heard there are some among you who walk disorderly, working not at all, but curiously meddling.
Such people we instruct and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and to eat their own food.12 Now we charge them that are such, and beseech them by the Lord Jesus Christ, that, working with silence, they would eat their own bread.
But you, brothers, do not be remiss in doing good.13 But you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
If anyone does not obey our word as expressed in this letter, take note of this person not to associate with him, that he may be put to shame.14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed:
Do not regard him as an enemy but admonish him as a brother.15 Yet do not esteem him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you everlasting peace in every place. The Lord be with you all.
This greeting is in my own hand, Paul's. This is the sign in every letter; this is how I write.17 The salutation of Paul with my own hand; which is the sign in every epistle. So I write.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
