Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus, to all the holy ones in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the overseers and ministers:	1 Paulo e Timóteo, servos de Jesus Cristo, a todos os santos em Jesus Cristo, que estão em Filipos, e aos bispos e diáconos:
2 grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	2 graça a vós e paz da parte de Deus nosso Pai e do Senhor Jesus Cristo.
3 I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,	3 Dou graças ao meu Deus, todas as vezes que me lembro de vós,
4 praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,	4 fazendo sempre com alegria súplicas por todos vós em todas as minhas orações,
5 because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.	5 por causa da parte que tomastes no desenvolvimento do Evangelho de Cristo, desde o primeiro dia até agora,
6 I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.	6 tendo confiança de que aquele, que começou em vós a boa obra, a completará até ao dia (da vinda) de Jesus Cristo.
7 It is right that I should think this way about all of you, because I hold you in my heart, you who are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.	7 É justo que eu pense assim de todos vós, porque vos tenho no coração, vós todos que, quer nas minhas cadeias quer na defesa e confirmação do Evangelho, sois participantes da minha alegria.
8 For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.	8 Deus me é testemunha de que modo vos amo a todos com a ternura de Jesus Cristo.
9 And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception,	9 E o que lhe peço é que a vossa caridade cresça mais e mais em compreensão e plena inteligência,
10 to discern what is of value, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,	10 para que possais distinguir o melhor, para que sejais sinceros e irrepreensíveis para o dia de Cristo,
11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.	11 cheios de frutos de justiça por Jesus Cristo, para glória e louvor de Deus.
12 I want you to know, brothers, that my situation has turned out rather to advance the gospel,	12 Ora eu quero, irmãos, que saibais que todas as coisas passadas comigo têm contribuído mais para proveito do Evangelho.
13 so that my imprisonment has become well known in Christ throughout the whole praetorium and to all the rest,	13 As minhas cadeias por amor de Cristo tornaram-se conhecidas em todo o Pretório e, aliás, em toda a parte,
14 and so that the majority of the brothers, having taken encouragement in the Lord from my imprisonment, dare more than ever to proclaim the word fearlessly.	14 e a maioria dos irmãos, animados no Senhor pelas minhas cadeias, têm tido maior ousadia em anunciar sem temor a palavra de Deus.
15 Of course, some preach Christ from envy and rivalry, others from good will.	15 É verdade que alguns pregam a Cristo por inveja e por discórdia, mas outros fazem-no com boa intenção.
16 The latter act out of love, aware that I am here for the defense of the gospel;	16 Estes operam por caridade, sabendo que fui constituído para defesa do Evangelho.
17 the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not from pure motives, thinking that they will cause me trouble in my imprisonment.	17 Outros anunciam Cristo por espírito de partido, não sinceramente, com o pensamento de acrescentar aflição às minhas cadeias.
18 What difference does it make, as long as in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is being proclaimed? And in that I rejoice. Indeed I shall continue to rejoice,	18 Mas, que importa? Contanto que Cristo, de qualquer modo, seja anunciado, ou por algum falso pretexto ou com sinceridade, não só nisto me alegro, mas me alegrarei.
19 for I know that this will result in deliverance for me through your prayers and support from the Spirit of Jesus Christ.	19 De facto, sei que isto me resultará em salvação, pela vossa oração e pelo socorro do Espírito de Jesus Cristo,
20 My eager expectation and hope is that I shall not be put to shame in any way, but that with all boldness, now as always, Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.	20 segundo a expectação e esperança que tenho, de que em nenhuma coisa serei confundido, mas que, com toda a confiança como sempre, também agora será Cristo glorificado no meu corpo, quer na vida, quer na morte.
21 For to me life is Christ, and death is gain.	21 Com efeito, para mim o viver é Cristo, e morrer é um lucro (porque ficarei mais intimamente unido com ele).
22 If I go on living in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. And I do not know which I shall choose.	22 Mas, se o viver (mais tempo) na carne me é útil por causa do trabalho (do meu apostolado, que redunda em glória de Deus, então) não sei o que escolher.
23 I am caught between the two. I long to depart this life and be with Christ, (for) that is far better.	23 Estou em aperto por duas partes: tenho o desejo de partir para estar com Cristo, o que é incomparavelmente melhor,
24 Yet that I remain (in) the flesh is more necessary for your benefit.	24 mas o permanecer na carne é preferível por amor de vós.
25 And this I know with confidence, that I shall remain and continue in the service of all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,	25 E, persuadido disto, sei que ficarei e que permanecerei com todos vós, para vosso proveito e gozo da vossa fé,
26 so that your boasting in Christ Jesus may abound on account of me when I come to you again.	26 a fim de que, pela minha volta e presença entre vós, vos dê motivo para vos glorificardes mais em Cristo Jesus.
27 Only, conduct yourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that, whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear news of you, that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind struggling together for the faith of the gospel,	27 Cumpre somente que vos porteis de um modo digno do Evangelho de Cristo, a fim de que, quer eu vá ver-vos, quer esteja ausente, ouça dizer de vós que permaneceis constantes num mesmo espírito, lutando unânimes pela fé do Evangelho,
28 not intimidated in any way by your opponents. This is proof to them of destruction, but of your salvation. And this is God's doing.	28 sem terdes medo dos adversários. Isto para eles, é sinal de perdição, como, para vós, de salvação. Tal é a vontade de Deus (que vos dá coragem).
29 For to you has been granted, for the sake of Christ, not only to believe in him but also to suffer for him.	29 Porque a vós vos é dada a graça, em relação a Cristo, não só de crer nele, mas também de sofrer por ele,
30 Yours is the same struggle as you saw in me and now hear about me.	30 sustentando o mesmo combate que vistes em mim e que ainda agora ouvistes de mim.
