1 After this, Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee (of Tiberias).	1 Mindezek után Jézus Galilea, azaz Tibériás tengerén túlra ment.
2 A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.	2 Nagy sokaság követte őt, mert látták a csodajeleket, amelyeket a betegeken művelt.
3 Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples.	3 Jézus fölment a hegyre, és leült ott tanítványaival.
4 The Jewish feast of Passover was near.	4 Közel volt a Húsvét, a zsidók ünnepe.
5 When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, "Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?"	5 Amikor Jézus fölemelte szemét és látta, hogy nagy sokaság közeledik hozzá, megkérdezte Fülöptől: »Honnan veszünk kenyeret, hogy ehessenek?«
6 He said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do.	6 Ezt pedig azért mondta, hogy próbára tegye őt, mert ő maga tudta, mit akar tenni.
7 Philip answered him, "Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little (bit)."	7 Fülöp azt felelte neki: »Kétszáz dénár árú kenyér sem elég nekik, hogy mindegyiknek csak valami kevés jusson.«
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,	8 A tanítványok egyike, András, Simon Péter testvére így szólt:
9 "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?"	9 »Van itt egy fiú, akinek van öt árpakenyere és két hala. De mi ez ennyinek?«
10 Jesus said, "Have the people recline." Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number.	10 Jézus erre azt mondta: »Telepítsétek le az embereket!« Sok fű volt azon a helyen. Letelepedtek tehát; a férfiak szám szerint mintegy ötezren voltak.
11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted.	11 Jézus pedig fogta a kenyereket, hálát adott, és szétosztotta a letelepülteknek. Ugyanígy a halakból is adott, amennyit akartak.
12 When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, "Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted."	12 Miután jóllaktak, azt mondta tanítványainak: »Szedjétek föl a megmaradt darabokat, hogy semmi el ne vesszen!«
13 So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat.	13 Összeszedték tehát, és az öt árpakenyér darabjaiból, ami megmaradt az étkezők után, tizenkét kosarat töltöttek meg.
14 When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, "This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world."	14 Az emberek pedig, látva a csodajelet, amelyet művelt, azt mondták: »Bizonyára ez az a próféta, aki eljön a világra!«
15 Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.	15 Amikor Jézus észrevette, hogy arra készülnek, hogy megragadják és királlyá tegyék, ismét visszavonult a hegyre, egészen egyedül.
16 When it was evening, his disciples went down to the sea,	16 Miután beesteledett, tanítványai lementek a tengerre.

18 The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.	18 Mivel nagy szél támadt, a tenger háborgott.
19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid.	19 Amikor mintegy huszonöt vagy harminc stádiumnyira hajóztak, látták, hogy Jézus a tengeren járva a bárkához közeledik, és megrémültek.
20 But he said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid."	20 Ő pedig így szólt hozzájuk: »Én vagyok, ne féljetek!«
21 They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading.	21 Fel akarták őt venni a bárkába, de a bárka azonnal a parthoz érkezett, ahová tartottak.
22 The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, but only his disciples had left.	22 Másnap a tömeg, amely a tengeren túl állt, észrevette, hogy csak egy bárka volt ott, és hogy Jézus nem szállt be tanítványaival a bárkába, a tanítványai egyedül távoztak el.
23 Other boats came from Tiberias near the place where they had eaten the bread when the Lord gave thanks.	23 Jöttek viszont Tibériásból más bárkák annak a helynek a közelébe, ahol a kenyeret ették, miután az Úr hálát adott.
24 When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.	24 Amikor tehát a sokaság meglátta, hogy nincs ott sem Jézus, sem a tanítványai, beszálltak a bárkákba, és Jézust keresve Kafarnaumba mentek.
25 And when they found him across the sea they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?"	25 Amikor megtalálták őt a tengeren túl, azt mondták neki: »Rabbi, mikor jöttél ide?«
26 Jesus answered them and said, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.	26 Jézus azt felelte: »Bizony, bizony mondom nektek: Kerestek engem, de nem azért, mert csodajeleket láttatok, hanem mert ettetek a kenyerekből és jóllaktatok.
27 Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal."	27 Ne azért az eledelért fáradozzatok, amely veszendő, hanem azért az eledelért, amely megmarad az örök életre, amelyet majd az Emberfia ad nektek. Őt ugyanis az Atyaisten jelölte meg.«
28 So they said to him, "What can we do to accomplish the works of God?"	28 Erre azt kérdezték tőle: »Mit tegyünk, hogy Isten tetteit cselekedjük?«
29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent."	29 Jézus azt felelte: »Isten tette az, hogy higgyetek abban, akit ő küldött.«
30 So they said to him, "What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do?	30 Erre megkérdezték tőle: »Milyen jelet viszel végbe, hogy lássuk és higgyünk neked? Mit cselekszel?
31 Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"	31 Atyáink mannát ettek a pusztában, amint írva van: ‘A mennyből adott nekik kenyeret enni’« .
32 So Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.	32 Jézus ezt válaszolta: »Bizony, bizony mondom nektek: Nem Mózes adott nektek mennyből való kenyeret, hanem az én Atyám adja nektek az igazi mennyből való kenyeret.
33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."	33 Mert az Isten kenyere az, amely a mennyből szállott le, és életet ad a világnak.«
34 So they said to him, "Sir, give us this bread always."	34 Ekkor azt mondták neki: »Uram, mindenkor add nekünk ezt a kenyeret!«
35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.	35 Jézus azt felelte nekik: »Én vagyok az élet kenyere. Aki hozzám jön, nem fog éhezni, és aki bennem hisz, sohasem szomjazik meg.
36 But I told you that although you have seen (me), you do not believe.	36 De mondtam nektek, hogy bár láttatok engem, mégsem hisztek.
37 Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,	37 Mindenki, akit nekem ad az Atya, hozzám jön, és aki hozzám jön, nem utasítom el,
38 because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.	38 mert nem azért szálltam le a mennyből, hogy a magam akaratát tegyem, hanem annak akaratát, aki küldött engem.
39 And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it (on) the last day.	39 Annak, aki küldött engem, az az akarata, hogy el ne veszítsek semmit abból, amit nekem adott, hanem föltámasszam azt az utolsó napon.
40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him (on) the last day."	40 Mert Atyám akarata az, hogy mindenkinek, aki látja a Fiút és hisz benne, örök élete legyen; és én feltámasztom őt az utolsó napon.«
41 The Jews murmured about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven,"	41 A zsidók ekkor zúgolódni kezdtek ellene, mivel azt mondta: »Én vagyok a kenyér, aki a mennyből szálltam alá«,
42 and they said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, 'I have come down from heaven'?"	42 és azt mondták: »Nem Jézus ez, József fia, akinek ismerjük apját és anyját? Hogyan mondja most: ‘A mennyből szálltam alá’?«
43 Jesus answered and said to them, "Stop murmuring among yourselves.	43 Jézus azt válaszolta nekik: »Ne zúgolódjatok egymás közt!
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day.	44 Senki sem jöhet hozzám, hacsak az Atya, aki engem küldött, nem vonzza; és én feltámasztom őt az utolsó napon.
45 It is written in the prophets: 'They shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.	45 Meg van írva a prófétáknál: ‘Mindnyájan Isten tanítványai lesznek’ . Mindaz, aki az Atyát hallgatta és elfogadta tanítását, hozzám jön.
46 Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.	46 Nem mintha az Atyát látta volna valaki: csak az látta az Atyát, aki Istentől való.
47 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.	47 Bizony, bizony mondom nektek: Aki hisz, annak örök élete van.
48 I am the bread of life.	48 Én vagyok az élet kenyere.
49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;	49 Atyáitok mannát ettek a pusztában és meghaltak.
50 this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.	50 Ez a mennyből alászállott kenyér, hogy aki ebből eszik, ne haljon meg.
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."	51 Én vagyok az élő kenyér, amely a mennyből szállt alá. Ha valaki ebből a kenyérből eszik, örökké él. A kenyér pedig, amelyet majd én adok, az én testem a világ életéért.«
52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?"	52 Vitatkozni kezdtek erre a zsidók egymás közt, és ezt kérdezték: »Hogyan adhatja ez testét eledelül nekünk?«
53 Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.	53 Jézus azt felelte nekik: »Bizony, bizony mondom nektek: Ha nem eszitek az Emberfia testét, és nem isszátok az ő vérét, nem lesz élet tibennetek.
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.	54 Aki eszi az én testemet, és issza az én véremet, annak örök élete van, és én feltámasztom őt az utolsó napon.
55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.	55 Mert az én testem valóságos étel, és az én vérem valóságos ital.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.	56 Aki eszi az én testemet, és issza az én véremet, az bennem marad, és én őbenne.
57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.	57 Amint engem küldött az élő Atya, és én az Atya által élek, úgy aki engem eszik, az is általam él.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever."	58 Ez az a kenyér, amely a mennyből szállt alá. Nem olyan, mint amit az atyák ettek és meghaltak; aki ezt a kenyeret eszi, örökké élni fog.«
59 These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.	59 Ezeket mondta Kafarnaumban, amikor a zsinagógában tanított.
60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?"	60 Amikor ezt meghallották, a tanítványai közül sokan azt mondták: »Kemény beszéd ez! Ki hallgathatja ezt?«
61 Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you?	61 Jézus tudta magában, hogy tanítványai emiatt zúgolódnak, ezért azt mondta nekik: »Megbotránkoztat ez titeket?
62 What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?	62 Hát ha majd látjátok az Emberfiát fölmenni oda, ahol azelőtt volt?
63 It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.	63 A Lélek az, ami éltet, a test nem használ semmit. Az igék, amelyeket én mondtam nektek, Lélek és élet.
64 But there are some of you who do not believe." Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him.	64 De vannak közületek egyesek, akik nem hisznek.« Mert Jézus kezdettől fogva tudta, hogy kik azok, akik nem hisznek, és hogy ki fogja őt elárulni.
65 And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father."	65 Majd hozzátette: »Ezért mondtam nektek: Senki nem jöhet hozzám, hacsak az Atya meg nem adja neki.«
66 As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.	66 Ettől fogva a tanítványai közül sokan visszahúzódtak, és már nem jártak vele.
67 Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?"	67 Jézus azért így szólt a tizenkettőhöz: »Talán ti is el akartok menni?«
68 Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.	68 Simon Péter azt felelte: »Uram, kihez mennénk? Az örök élet igéi a tieid.
69 We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."	69 Mi hittünk, és megismertük, hogy te vagy az Isten Szentje.«
70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?"	70 Jézus azt felelte nekik: »Nem tizenkettőt választottam ki közületek? Egy közületek mégis ördög.«
71 He was referring to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot; it was he who would betray him, one of the Twelve.	71 Ezt pedig Júdásra, az iskarióti Simon fiára értette, mert ez árulója lett, egy a tizenkettő közül.
