1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.	1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there,
2 Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.	2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited.
3 When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."	3 And they ran out of wine, since the wine provided for the feast had al been used, and the mother ofJesus said to him, 'They have no wine.'
4 (And) Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come."	4 Jesus said, 'Woman, what do you want from me? My hour has not come yet.'
5 His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you."	5 His mother said to the servants, 'Do whatever he tells you.'
6 Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons.	6 There were six stone water jars standing there, meant for the ablutions that are customary among theJews: each could hold twenty or thirty gal ons.
7 Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim.	7 Jesus said to the servants, 'Fil the jars with water,' and they fil ed them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So they took it.	8 Then he said to them, 'Draw some out now and take it to the president of the feast.'
9 And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom	9 They did this; the president tasted the water, and it had turned into wine. Having no idea where it camefrom -- though the servants who had drawn the water knew -- the president of the feast cal ed the bridegroom
10 and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now."	10 and said, 'Everyone serves good wine first and the worse wine when the guests are wel wined; butyou have kept the best wine til now.'
11 Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.	11 This was the first of Jesus' signs: it was at Cana in Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciplesbelieved in him.
12 After this, he and his mother, (his) brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there only a few days.	12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, but theystayed there only a few days.
13 Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	13 When the time of the Jewish Passover was near Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money-changers seated there.	14 and in the Temple he found people selling cattle and sheep and doves, and the money changerssitting there.
15 He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables,	15 Making a whip out of cord, he drove them al out of the Temple, sheep and cattle as wel , scattered themoney changers' coins, knocked their tables over
16 and to those who sold doves he said, "Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace."	16 and said to the dove sel ers, 'Take all this out of here and stop using my Father's house as a market.'
17 His disciples recalled the words of scripture, "Zeal for your house will consume me."	17 Then his disciples remembered the words of scripture: I am eaten up with zeal for your house.
18 At this the Jews answered and said to him, "What sign can you show us for doing this?"	18 The Jews intervened and said, 'What sign can you show us that you should act like this?'
19 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up."	19 Jesus answered, 'Destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up.'
20 The Jews said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?"	20 The Jews replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple: are you going to raise it up again inthree days?'
21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body.	21 But he was speaking of the Temple that was his body,
22 Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.	22 and when Jesus rose from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believedthe scripture and what he had said.
23 While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in his name when they saw the signs he was doing.	23 During his stay in Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover many believed in his name when they sawthe signs that he did,
24 But Jesus would not trust himself to them because he knew them all,	24 but Jesus knew al people and did not trust himself to them;
25 and did not need anyone to testify about human nature. He himself understood it well.	25 he never needed evidence about anyone; he could tell what someone had within.
