1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.	1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word.

20 he admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, "I am not the Messiah."	20 And he confessed it and did not deny it; and what he confessed was: “I am not the Christ.”
21 So they asked him, "What are you then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."	21 And they questioned him: “Then what are you? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
22 So they said to him, "Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?"	22 Therefore, they said to him: “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said: "I am 'the voice of one crying out in the desert, "Make straight the way of the Lord,"' as Isaiah the prophet said."	23 He said, “I am a voice crying out in the desert, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ just as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Some Pharisees were also sent.	24 And some of those who had been sent were from among the Pharisees.
25 They asked him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?"	25 And they questioned him and said to him, “Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, and not the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, "I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize,	26 John answered them by saying: “I baptize with water. But in your midst stands one, whom you do not know.
27 the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie."	27 The same is he who is to come after me, who has been placed ahead of me, the laces of whose shoes I am not worthy to loosen.”

31 I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel."	31 And I did not know him. Yet it is for this reason that I come baptizing with water: so that he may be made manifest in Israel.”
32 John testified further, saying, "I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky and remain upon him.	32 And John offered testimony, saying: “For I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove; and he remained upon him.
33 I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the holy Spirit.'	33 And I did not know him. But he who sent me to baptize with water said to me: ‘He over whom you will see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him, this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God."	34 And I saw, and I gave testimony: that this one is the Son of God.”
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples,	35 The next day again, John was standing with two of his disciples.

38 Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?"	38 Then Jesus, turning around and seeing them following him, said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi (which means in translation, Teacher), where do you live?”
39 He said to them,"Come, and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon.	39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. Now it was about the tenth hour.
40 Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus.	40 And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who had heard about him from John and had followed him.

43 The next day he decided to go to Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, "Follow me."	43 On the next day, he wanted to go into Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, "Here is a true Israelite. There is no duplicity in him."	47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, and he said about him, “Behold, an Israelite in whom truly there is no deceit.”
48 Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree."	48 Nathanael said to him, “From where do you know me?” Jesus responded and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."	49 Nathanael answered him and said: “Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.”
50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this."	50 Jesus responded and said to him: “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe. Greater things than these, you will see.”
51 And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."	51 And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the Angels of God ascending and descending over the Son of man.”
