1 In those days when there again was a great crowd without anything to eat, he summoned the disciples and said,	1 Naqueles dias, havendo novamente grande multidão, e, não tendo que comer, chamados os discípulos, disse-lhes:
2 "My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat.	2 "Tenho compaixão deste povo, porque há já três dias que não se afastam de mim, e não têm que comer.
3 If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will collapse on the way, and some of them have come a great distance."	3 Se os despedir em jejum para suas casas, desfalecerão no caminho e alguns deles vieram de longe."
4 His disciples answered him, "Where can anyone get enough bread to satisfy them here in this deserted place?"	4 Os discípulos responderam-lhe: "Como poderá alguém saciá-los de pão aqui num deserto?"
5 Still he asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" "Seven," they replied.	5 Jesus perguntou-lhes: "Quantos pães tendes?" Responderam: "Sete."
6 He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to distribute, and they distributed them to the crowd.	6 Então ordenou ao povo que se recostasse sobre a terra. Depois, tomando os sete pães, deu graças, partiu-os e deu a seus discípulos, para que os distribuíssem ; e eles os distribuíram pelo povo.
7 They also had a few fish. He said the blessing over them and ordered them distributed also.	7 Tinham também uns poucos de peixinhos. Ele os abençoou, e mandou que fossem distribuídos.
8 They ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over--seven baskets.	8 Comeram, ficaram saciados, e, dos pedaços que sobejaram, levantaram sete cestos.
9 There were about four thousand people. He dismissed them	9 Ora os que comeram eram cerca de quatro mil. Em seguida Jesus despediu-os.
10 and got into the boat with his disciples and came to the region of Dalmanutha.	10 Entrando logo na barca com seus discipulos, passou ao território de Dalmanuta.
11 The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.	11 Apareceram os fariseus, e começaram a disputar com ele, pedindo-lhe, para o tentarem, um sinal do céu.
12 He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation."	12 Porém Jesus, arrancando do coração um suspiro, disse: "Porque pede esta geração um sinal? Em verdade vos digo que a esta geração não será dado sinal algum."
13 Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.	13 Depois, deixando-os, entrou novamente na barca, e passou à outra banda.
14 They had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat.	14 Ora os discípulos esqueceram-se de tomar pães; e não tinham consigo na barca, senão um único.
15 He enjoined them, "Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."	15 Jesus advertia-os, dizendo: "Evitai com cuidado o fermento dos fariseus, e o fermento de Herodes."
16 They concluded among themselves that it was because they had no bread.	16 E eles discorriam entre si : "É que nós não temos pão."
17 When he became aware of this he said to them, "Why do you conclude that it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Are your hearts hardened?	17 Conhecendo isto Jesus, disse-lhes: "Porque estais vós a discutir que não tendes pão? Ainda não refletiste nem entendestes? Ainda tendes o vosso coração obcecado ?
18 Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear? And do you not remember,	18 Tendo olhos, não vedes, e tendo ouvidos, não ouvis? Já não vos recordais?
19 when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many wicker baskets full of fragments you picked up?" They answered him, "Twelve."	19 Quando dividi cinco pães por cinco mil homens, quantos cestos levantastes cheios de pedaços?" Eles responderam: "Doze."
20 "When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many full baskets of fragments did you pick up?" They answered (him), "Seven."	20 "E quando dividi sete pães entre quatro mil, quantos cestos levantastes de pedaços?" Responderam : "Sete."
21 He said to them, "Do you still not understand?"	21 E dizia-lhes: "Como é que não entendeis ainda?"
22 When they arrived at Bethsaida, they brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him.	22 Chegaram a Betsaida. Trouxeram-lhe um cego, e suplicavam-lhe que o tocasse.
23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. Putting spittle on his eyes he laid his hands on him and asked, "Do you see anything?"	23 Tomando o cego pela mão, conduziu-o fora da aldeia, pós-lhe saliva sobre os olhos, e, impondo-lhe as suas mãos, perguntou-lhe: "Vês alguma coisa?"
24 Looking up he replied, "I see people looking like trees and walking."	24 Ele, levantando os olhos, disse : "Vejo os homens que me parecem árvores ­que andam."
25 Then he laid hands on his eyes a second time and he saw clearly; his sight was restored and he could see everything distinctly.	25 Depois Jesus impôs-lhe novamente as mãos sobre os olhos, e começou a ver claramente; ficou curado e distinguia tudo, nitidamente, de longe.
26 Then he sent him home and said, "Do not even go into the village."	26 Então Jesus mandou-o para casa, dizendo: "Não entres na aldeia."
27 Now Jesus and his disciples set out for the villages of Caesarea Philippi. Along the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?"	27 Saiu Jesus com os seus discipulos pelas aldeias de Cesareia de Filipe. Pelo caminho, interrogou os seus discípulos: "Quem dizem os homens que eu sou?"
28 They said in reply, "John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets."	28 Eles responderam-lhe: "Uns dizem que João Batista, outros que Elias, e outros que algum dos profetas."
29 And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter said to him in reply, "You are the Messiah."	29 Então perguntou-lhes: "E vós quem dizeis que eu sou? Pedro respondeu: "Tu és o Messias."
30 Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.	30 Então Jesus ordenou-lhes severamente que a ninguém dissessem isto dele.
31 He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and rise after three days.	31 E começou a declarar-lhes que era necessário que o Filho do homem padecesse muito, que fosse rejeitado pelos anciães, pelos príncipes dos sacerdotes, e pelos escribas, que fosse morto, e que ressuscitasse depois de três dias.
32 He spoke this openly. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.	32 E falava destas coisas claramente. Pedro, tomando-o de parte, começou a repreendê-lo.
33 At this he turned around and, looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind me, Satan. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do."	33 Mas Jesus, voltando-se e olhando para seus discípulos, repreendeu Pedro, dizendo : "Retira-te daqui Satanás, que não tens gosto pelas coisas de Deus, mas sim pelas dos homens."
34 He summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.	34 Depois, chamando a si o povo com seus discípulos, disse-lhes: "Se alguém me quer seguir, negue-se a si mesmo, tome a sua cruz, e siga-me.
35 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it.	35 Porque o que quiser salvar a sua vida, a perderá; mas o que perder a sua vida por amor de mim e do Evangelho, a salvará.
36 What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?	36 Pois que aproveitará ao homem ganhar o mundo inteiro e perder a sua alma?
37 What could one give in exchange for his life?	37 Ou que dará o homem em troco da sua alma?
38 Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this faithless and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."	38 No meio desta geração adúltera e pecadora, quem se envergonhar de mim e das minhas palavras, também o Filho do homem se envergonhará dele, quando vier na glória de seu Pai com os santos anjos."
