1 He departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples.	1 Ezután kijött onnan, és elment a saját falujába. A tanítványai követték.
2 When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands!	2 Amikor szombat lett, elkezdett a zsinagógában tanítani. Sokan, akik hallgatták, csodálkoztak tanításán, és azt kérdezték: »Honnan vette ez mindezt? Milyen bölcsesség az, amely neki adatott? És milyen csodák történnek a keze által?
3 Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.	3 Nem az ács ez, Mária fia, Jakab és József és Júdás és Simon testvére? Nem az ő nővérei vannak itt nálunk?« És megbotránkoztak benne.
4 Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house."	4 Jézus pedig azt mondta nekik: »Nem vetik meg a prófétát, csak a maga hazájában, a rokonai között és a házában.«
5 So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them.	5 Nem is tudott egy csodát sem tenni ott, csak néhány beteget gyógyított meg, rájuk téve kezét.
6 He was amazed at their lack of faith. He went around to the villages in the vicinity teaching.	6 És csodálkozott hitetlenségükön. Ezután bejárta a helységeket a környéken és tanított.
7 He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits.	7 Aztán magához hívta a tizenkettőt, és elkezdte őket kettesével elküldeni. Hatalmat adott nekik a tisztátalan lelkek felett.
8 He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick--no food, no sack, no money in their belts.	8 Meghagyta nekik, hogy az útra vándorboton kívül semmit ne vigyenek; se táskát, se kenyeret, se pénzt az övükben.
9 They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic.	9 Sarut kössenek, de ne öltözzenek két köntösbe.
10 He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.	10 Azt mondta nekik: »Ha valahol betértek egy házba, maradjatok ott, amíg tovább nem mentek onnan.
11 Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them."	11 Ha pedig valahol nem fogadnak be és nem hallgatnak meg titeket, menjetek ki, rázzátok le lábatokról a port is, bizonyságul ellenük.«
12 So they went off and preached repentance.	12 Azok elmentek, és hirdették, hogy tartsanak bűnbánatot.
13 They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.	13 Sok ördögöt kiűztek, sok beteget megkentek olajjal, és azok meggyógyultak.
14 King Herod heard about it, for his fame had become widespread, and people were saying, "John the Baptist has been raised from the dead; that is why mighty powers are at work in him."	14 Heródes király is hallott róla, mert a neve ismert volt már. Azt mondták: »Keresztelő János támadt fel a halálból, azért működnek benne a csodatévő erők.«
15 Others were saying, "He is Elijah"; still others, "He is a prophet like any of the prophets."	15 Mások pedig így szóltak: »Illés ő.« Ismét mások azt mondták: »Próféta ez; mintha egy lenne a próféták közül.«
16 But when Herod learned of it, he said, "It is John whom I beheaded. He has been raised up."	16 Ezeket hallva Heródes így szólt: »János, akinek a fejét vetettem, az támadt fel a halálból.«
17 Herod was the one who had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.	17 Heródes ugyanis parancsot adott és elfogatta Jánost. Megkötöztette őt a börtönben Heródiás miatt, aki a testvérének, Fülöpnek volt a felesége, de ő feleségül vette.
18 John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."	18 János ugyanis azt mondta Heródesnek: »Nem szabad a testvéred feleségét elvenned.«
19 Herodias harbored a grudge against him and wanted to kill him but was unable to do so.	19 Ezért aztán Heródiás ármánykodott ellene, és meg akarta őt ölni, de nem volt képes rá.
20 Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and kept him in custody. When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him.	20 Heródes ugyanis tartott Jánostól. Tudta róla, hogy igaz és szent férfiú, ezért védelmébe vette, őt hallgatva sokszor kétkedés fogta el, és szívesen hallgatta.
21 She had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday, gave a banquet for his courtiers, his military officers, and the leading men of Galilee.	21 Egyszer azonban, amikor Heródes a születésnapján lakomát rendezett országa nagyjainak, ezredeseinek és Galilea előkelőségeinek,
22 Herodias's own daughter came in and performed a dance that delighted Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, "Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you."	22 bement Heródiás lánya és táncolt nekik. Ez nagyon tetszett Heródesnek és az asztaltársaságnak. A király erre azt mondta a lánynak: »Kérj tőlem, amit csak akarsz, és megadom neked.«
23 He even swore (many things) to her, "I will grant you whatever you ask of me, even to half of my kingdom."	23 Meg is esküdött neki, hogy: »Bármit kérsz, megadom neked, akár az országom felét is!«
24 She went out and said to her mother, "What shall I ask for?" She replied, "The head of John the Baptist."	24 Az kiment és megkérdezte anyjától: »Mit kérjek?« Az így szólt: »Keresztelő János fejét.«
25 The girl hurried back to the king's presence and made her request, "I want you to give me at once on a platter the head of John the Baptist."	25 Erre nagy sietve bement a királyhoz és előadta kérelmét: »Azt akarom, hogy rögtön add nekem egy tálon Keresztelő János fejét.«
26 The king was deeply distressed, but because of his oaths and the guests he did not wish to break his word to her.	26 A király elszomorodott, de az esküje és az asztaltársak miatt nem akarta kedvét szegni.
27 So he promptly dispatched an executioner with orders to bring back his head. He went off and beheaded him in the prison.	27 Rögtön elküldte a hóhért, megparancsolta, hogy hozzák el a fejét egy tálon. Az lefejezte a tömlöcben,
28 He brought in the head on a platter and gave it to the girl. The girl in turn gave it to her mother.	28 elhozta a fejét egy tálon, és átadta a lánynak, a lány pedig odaadta anyjának.
29 When his disciples heard about it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.	29 Amikor a tanítványai megtudták ezt, eljöttek, elvitték a testét és sírba helyezték.
30 The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught.	30 Az apostolok ismét összegyűltek Jézus körül, és mindnyájan beszámoltak, hogy mi mindent tettek és mit tanítottak.
31 He said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat.	31 Ő ekkor azt mondta nekik: »Gyertek félre egy magányos helyre, és pihenjetek meg egy kicsit.« Olyan sokan jöttek-mentek ugyanis, hogy még enni sem volt idejük.
32 So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.	32 Bárkába szálltak tehát, és félrevonultak egy elhagyatott helyre, egyedül.
33 People saw them leaving and many came to know about it. They hastened there on foot from all the towns and arrived at the place before them.	33 Sokan látták azonban őket, s észrevették, amikor elmentek. Minden városból futottak oda gyalog, és megelőzték őket.
34 When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.	34 Amikor kiszállt, Jézus meglátta a hatalmas tömeget, és megesett rajtuk a szíve, mert olyanok voltak, mint a pásztor nélküli juhok , és sok mindenre kezdte őket tanítani.
35 By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said, "This is a deserted place and it is already very late.	35 Amikor az óra már későre járt, odamentek hozzá tanítványai, és azt mondták neki: »Sivár ez a hely és az idő későre jár.
36 Dismiss them so that they can go to the surrounding farms and villages and buy themselves something to eat."	36 Bocsásd el őket, hogy a környékbeli majorokba és falvakba menjenek és élelmet vegyenek maguknak.«
37 He said to them in reply, "Give them some food yourselves." But they said to him, "Are we to buy two hundred days' wages worth of food and give it to them to eat?"	37 Ő azonban ezt felelte nekik: »Adjatok nekik ti enni.« Azok így válaszoltak: »Menjünk el és vegyünk kétszáz dénárért kenyeret, hogy enni adhassunk nekik?«
38 He asked them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see." And when they had found out they said, "Five loaves and two fish."	38 Erre megkérdezte tőlük: »Hány kenyeretek van? Menjetek, nézzétek meg.« Mikor megszámolták, azt mondták: »Öt darab, és két halunk.«
39 So he gave orders to have them sit down in groups on the green grass.	39 Ő megparancsolta nekik, hogy telepítsék le mindnyájukat csoportokban a zöld füvön.
40 The people took their places in rows by hundreds and by fifties.	40 Letelepedtek tehát csoportonként százával, ötvenével.
41 Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to (his) disciples to set before the people; he also divided the two fish among them all.	41 Akkor fogta az öt kenyeret és a két halat, föltekintett az égre, áldás mondott, és megtörte a kenyereket. Azután odaadta tanítványainak, hogy eléjük tegyék. A két halat is elosztotta valamennyiük között.
42 They all ate and were satisfied.	42 Mindnyájan ettek és jóllaktak.
43 And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragments and what was left of the fish.	43 A megmaradt kenyérdarabokkal és a halakkal tizenkét kosarat töltöttek meg.
44 Those who ate (of the loaves) were five thousand men.	44 Akik ettek a kenyerekből, ötezren voltak, csak a férfiak.
45 Then he made his disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side toward Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.	45 Ezután mindjárt megparancsolta tanítványainak, hogy szálljanak bárkába, és menjenek előre a túlpartra, Betszaidába, amíg ő elbocsátja a tömeget.
46 And when he had taken leave of them, he went off to the mountain to pray.	46 Miután elküldte őket, felment a hegyre imádkozni.
47 When it was evening, the boat was far out on the sea and he was alone on shore.	47 Amikor beesteledett, a bárka a tenger közepén volt, ő meg egymaga a szárazon.
48 Then he saw that they were tossed about while rowing, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them.	48 Látta őket küszködni az evezéssel – mert ellenkező szelük volt. Az éjszaka negyedik őrváltása körül odament hozzájuk a tengeren járva, majd el akart mellettük haladni.
49 But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out.	49 Azok pedig látva őt, amint a tengeren jár, kísértetnek nézték és fölkiáltottak,
50 They had all seen him and were terrified. But at once he spoke with them, "Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!"	50 mert mindnyájan látták őt, és zavarba estek. De ő mindjárt megszólította őket, és azt mondta nekik: »Bízzatok! Én vagyok, ne féljetek!«
51 He got into the boat with them and the wind died down. They were (completely) astounded.	51 Majd beszállt hozzájuk a bárkába, a szél pedig elállt. Ők erre még jobban álmélkodtak magukban.
52 They had not understood the incident of the loaves. On the contrary, their hearts were hardened.	52 Nem okultak ugyanis a kenyerekből, s a szívük még érzéketlen volt.
53 After making the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there.	53 Átkeltek a tavon, és Genezáret földjére jutottak és kikötöttek.
54 As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.	54 De mihelyt kiszálltak a bárkából, az emberek rögtön felismerték őt,
55 They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.	55 és körbefutva az egész környéken elkezdték a betegeket ágyastól összehordani oda, ahol hallották, hogy ott van.
56 Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.	56 Amerre csak betért a falvakba, majorokba vagy városokba, az utcákra tették a betegeket, és kérték őt, hogy legalább a ruhája szegélyét érinthessék. Mindazok, akik megérintették őt, meggyógyultak.
