NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
Again he entered the synagogue. There was a man there who had a withered hand.1 Et introivit iterum in synagogam : et erat ibi homo habens manum aridam.
They watched him closely to see if he would cure him on the sabbath so that they might accuse him.2 Et observabant eum, si sabbatis curaret, ut accusarent illum.
He said to the man with the withered hand, "Come up here before us."3 Et ait homini habenti manum aridam : Surge in medium.
Then he said to them, "Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" But they remained silent.4 Et dicit eis : Licet sabbatis benefacere, an male ? animam salvam facere, an perdere ? At illi tacebant.
Looking around at them with anger and grieved at their hardness of heart, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out and his hand was restored.5 Et circumspiciens eos cum ira, contristatus super cæcitate cordis eorum, dicit homini : Extende manum tuam. Et extendit, et restituta est manus illi.
The Pharisees went out and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against him to put him to death.6 Exeuntes autem pharisæi, statim cum Herodianis consilium faciebant adversus eum quomodo eum perderent.
Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people (followed) from Galilee and from Judea.7 Jesus autem cum discipulis suis secessit ad mare : et multa turba a Galilæa et Judæa secuta est eum,
Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon.8 et ab Jerosolymis, et ab Idumæa, et trans Jordanem : et qui circa Tyrum et Sidonem multitudo magna, audientes quæ faciebat, venerunt ad eum.
He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him.9 Et dicit discipulis suis ut navicula sibi deserviret propter turbam, ne comprimerent eum :
He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him.10 multos enim sanabat, ita ut irruerent in eum ut illum tangerent, quotquot habebant plagas.
And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, "You are the Son of God."11 Et spiritus immundi, cum illum videbant, procidebant ei : et clamabant, dicentes :
He warned them sternly not to make him known.12 Tu es Filius Dei. Et vehementer comminabatur eis ne manifestarent illum.
He went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him.13 Et ascendens in montem vocavit ad se quos voluit ipse : et venerunt ad eum.
He appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach14 Et fecit ut essent duodecim cum illo : et ut mitteret eos prædicare.
and to have authority to drive out demons:15 Et dedit illis potestatem curandi infirmitates et ejiciendi dæmonia.
(he appointed the twelve:) Simon, whom he named Peter;16 Et imposuit Simoni nomen Petrus :
James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder;17 et Jacobum Zebedæi, et Joannem fratrem Jacobi, et imposuit eis nomina Boanerges, quod est, Filii tonitrui :
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean,18 et Andream, et Philippum, et Bartholomæum, et Matthæum, et Thomam, et Jacobum Alphæi, et Thaddæum, et Simonem Cananæum,
and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.19 et Judam Iscariotem, qui et tradidit illum.
He came home. Again (the) crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat.20 Et veniunt ad domum : et convenit iterum turba, ita ut non possent neque panem manducare.
When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."21 Et cum audissent sui, exierunt tenere eum : dicebant enim : Quoniam in furorem versus est.
The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "By the prince of demons he drives out demons."22 Et scribæ, qui ab Jerosolymis descenderant, dicebant : Quoniam Beelzebub habet, et quia in principe dæmoniorum ejicit dæmonia.
Summoning them, he began to speak to them in parables, "How can Satan drive out Satan?23 Et convocatis eis in parabolis dicebat illis : Quomodo potest Satanas Satanam ejicere ?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.24 Et si regnum in se dividatur, non potest regnum illud stare.
And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.25 Et si domus super semetipsam dispertiatur, non potest domus illa stare.
And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand; that is the end of him.26 Et si Satanas consurrexerit in semetipsum, dispertitus est, et non poterit stare, sed finem habet.
But no one can enter a strong man's house to plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.27 Nemo potest vasa fortis ingressus in domum diripere, nisi prius fortem alliget, et tunc domum ejus diripiet.
Amen, I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them.28 Amen dico vobis, quoniam omnia dimittentur filiis hominum peccata, et blasphemiæ quibus blasphemaverint :
But whoever blasphemes against the holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin."29 qui autem blasphemaverit in Spiritum Sanctum, non habebit remissionem in æternum, sed reus erit æterni delicti.
For they had said, "He has an unclean spirit."30 Quoniam dicebant : Spiritum immundum habet.
His mother and his brothers arrived. Standing outside they sent word to him and called him.31 Et veniunt mater ejus et fratres : et foris stantes miserunt ad eum vocantes eum,
A crowd seated around him told him, "Your mother and your brothers (and your sisters) are outside asking for you."32 et sedebat circa eum turba : et dicunt ei : Ecce mater tua et fratres tui foris quærunt te.
But he said to them in reply, "Who are my mother and (my) brothers?"33 Et respondens eis, ait : Quæ est mater mea et fratres mei ?
And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers.34 Et circumspiciens eos, qui in circuitu ejus sedebant, ait : Ecce mater mea et fratres mei.
(For) whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."35 Qui enim fecerit voluntatem Dei, hic frater meus, et soror mea, et mater est.
