Numbers 34

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 The LORD said to Moses,	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 "Give the Israelites this order: When you enter the land of Canaan, this is the territory that shall fall to you as your heritage--the land of Canaan with its boundaries:	2 'Give the Israelites this order. Say: "When you enter the country (Canaan), this will be the countrywhich forms your heritage. This is Canaan as defined by its boundaries:
3 "Your southern boundary shall be at the desert of Zin along the border of Edom; on the east it shall begin at the end of the Salt Sea,	3 "The southern part of your country wil start from the desert of Zin, on the borders of Edom. Yoursouthern boundary wil start on the east at the end of the Salt Sea.
4 and turning south of the Akrabbim Pass, it shall cross Zin, and extend south of Kadesh-barnea to Hazar-addar; thence it shall cross to Azmon,	4 It wil then turn south towards the Ascent of the Scorpions and go by Zin to end in the south atKadesh-Barnea. It wil then run towards Hazar-Addar and pass through Azmon.
5 and turning from Azmon to the Wadi of Egypt, shall terminate at the Sea.	5 From Azmon the boundary wil turn towards the Torrent of Egypt and end at the Sea.
6 "For your western boundary you shall have the Great Sea with its coast; this shall be your western boundary.	6 "Your seaboard wil be on the Great Sea; this will be your western boundary.
7 "The following shall be your boundary on the north: from the Great Sea you shall draw a line to Mount Hor,	7 "Your northern boundary wil be as fol ows: you wil draw a line from the Great Sea to Mount Hor,
8 and shall continue it from Mount Hor to Labo in the land of Hamath, with the boundary extending through Zedad.	8 then from Mount Hor you wil draw a line to the Pass of Hamath, and the boundary will end at Zedad.
9 Thence the boundary shall reach to Ziphron and terminate at Hazar-enan. This shall be your northern boundary.	9 From there it wil run on to Ziphron and end at Hazar-Enan. This wil be your northern boundary.
10 "For your eastern boundary you shall draw a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham.	10 "You will then draw your eastern boundary from Hazar-Enan to Shepham.
11 From Shepham the boundary shall go down to Ar-Baal, east of Ain, and descending further, shall strike the ridge on the east side of the Sea of Chinnereth;	11 The boundary wil run down from Shepham towards Riblah on the east side of Ain. Further down itwil keep to the eastern shore of the Sea of Chinnereth.
12 thence the boundary shall continue along the Jordan and terminate with the Salt Sea. "This is the land that shall be yours, with the boundaries that surround it."	12 The frontier wil then fol ow the Jordan and end at the Salt Sea. "Such wil be your country with theboundaries surrounding it." '
13 Moses also gave this order to the Israelites: "This is the land, to be apportioned among you by lot, which the LORD has commanded to be given to the nine and one half tribes.	13 Moses then gave the Israelites this order: 'This is the country, where your heritages wil be assignedby lot, and which Yahweh has ordered to be given to the nine tribes and the half-tribe,
14 For all the ancestral houses of the tribe of Reuben, and the ancestral houses of the tribe of Gad, as well as half of the tribe of Manasseh, have already received their heritage;	14 for the tribe of the Reubenites with their families and the tribe of the Gadites with their families havealready received their heritage; the half-tribe of Manasseh has also received its heritage.
15 these two and one half tribes have received their heritage on the eastern side of the Jericho stretch of the Jordan, toward the sunrise."	15 These two tribes and the half-tribe have received their heritage on the other side of the Jordan byJericho, to the east, towards the sunrise.'
16 The LORD said to Moses,	16 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
17 "These are the names of the men who shall apportion the land among you: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua, son of Nun,	17 'Here are the names of the men who wil divide the country up for you: the priest Eleazar andJoshua son of Nun,
18 and one prince from each of the tribes whom you shall designate for this task.	18 and you wil take one leader from each tribe to divide the country up into heritages.
19 These shall be as follows: from the tribe of Judah: Caleb, son of Jephunneh,	19 Here are the names of these men: 'For the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
20 from the tribe of Simeon: Samuel, son of Ammihud;	20 'for the tribe of the Simeonites, Shemuel son of Ammihud;
21 from the tribe of Benjamin: Elidad, son of Chislon;	21 'for the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Chislon;
22 from the tribe of Dan: Bukki, son of Jogli;	22 'for the tribe of the Danites, the leader Bukki son of Jogli;
23 from the tribe of Manasseh: Hanniel, son of Ephod; and	23 'for the sons of Joseph: for the tribe of Manasseh, the leader Hanniel son of Ephod;
24 from the tribe of Ephraim: Kemuel, son of Shiphtan, for the descendants of Joseph;	24 'for the tribe of the Ephraimites, the leader Kemuel son of Shiphtan;
25 from the tribe of Zebulun: Elizaphan, son of Parnach;	25 'for the tribe of the Zebulunites, the leader Elizaphan son of Parnach;
26 from the tribe of Issachar: Paltiel, son of Azzan;	26 'for the tribe of the Issacharites, the leader Paltiel son of Azzan;
27 from the tribe of Asher: Ahihud, son of Shelomi;	27 'for the tribe of the Asherites, the leader Ahihud son of Shelomi;
28 from the tribe of Naphtali: Pedahel, son of Ammihud."	28 'for the tribe of the Naphtalites, the leader Pedahel son of Ammihud.'
29 These are they whom the LORD commanded to assign the Israelites their heritage in the land of Canaan.	29 These were the men whom Yahweh ordered to divide Canaan into heritages for the Israelites.
