NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
1 Do no evil, and evil will not overtake you;1 Noli facere mala, et non te apprehendent :
2 avoid wickedness, and it will turn aside from you.2 discede ab iniquo, et deficient mala abs te.
3 Sow not in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold.3 Fili, non semines mala in sulcis injustitiæ,
et non metes ea in septuplum.
4 Seek not from the LORD authority, nor from the king a place of honor.4 Noli quærere a Domino ducatum,
neque a rege cathedram honoris.
5 Parade not your justice before the Lord, and before the king flaunt not your wisdom.5 Non te justifices ante Deum,
quoniam agnitor cordis ipse est :
et penes regem noli velle videri sapiens.
6 Seek not to become a judge if you have not strength to root out crime, Or you will show favor to the ruler and mar your integrity.6 Noli quærere fieri judex,
nisi valeas virtute irrumpere iniquitates :
ne forte extimescas faciem potentis,
et ponas scandalum in æquitate tua.
7 Be guilty of no evil before the city's populace, nor disgrace yourself before the assembly.7 Non pecces in multitudinem civitatis,
nec te immittas in populum :
8 Do not plot to repeat a sin; not even for one will you go unpunished.8 neque alliges duplicia peccata,
nec enim in uno eris immunis.
9 Say not: "He will appreciate my many gifts; the Most High will accept my offerings."9 Noli esse pusillanimis in animo tuo :
10 Be not impatient in prayers, and neglect not the giving of alms.10 exorare et facere eleemosynam ne despicias.
11 Laugh not at an embittered man; be mindful of him who exalts and humbles.11 Ne dicas : In multitudine munerum meorum respiciet Deus,
et offerente me Deo altissimo, munera mea suscipiet.
12 Plot no mischief against your brother, nor against your friend and companion.12 Non irrideas hominem in amaritudine animæ :
est enim qui humiliat et exaltat circumspector Deus.
13 Delight not in telling lie after lie, for it never results in good.13 Noli amare mendacium adversus fratrem tuum,
neque in amicum similiter facias.
14 Thrust not yourself into the deliberations of princes, and repeat not the words of your prayer.14 Noli velle mentiri omne mendacium :
assiduitas enim illius non est bona.
15 Hate not laborious tasks, nor farming, which was ordained by the Most High.15 Noli verbosus esse in multitudine presbyterorum,
et non iteres verbum in oratione tua.
16 Do not esteem yourself better than your fellows; remember, his wrath will not delay.16 Non oderis laboriosa opera,
et rusticationem creatam ab Altissimo.
17 More and more, humble your pride; what awaits man is worms.17 Non te reputes in multitudine indisciplinatorum.
18 Barter not a friend for money, nor a dear brother for the gold of Ophir.18 Memento iræ, quoniam non tardabit.
19 Dismiss not a sensible wife; a gracious wife is more precious than corals.19 Humilia valde spiritum tuum,
quoniam vindicta carnis impii ignis et vermis.
20 Mistreat not a servant who faithfully serves, nor a laborer who devotes himself to his task.20 Noli prævaricari in amicum pecuniam differentem,
neque fratrem carissimum auro spreveris.
21 Let a wise servant be dear to you as your own self; refuse him not his freedom.21 Noli discedere a muliere sensata et bona,
quam sortitus es in timore Domini :
gratia enim verecundiæ illius super aurum.
22 If you have livestock, look after them; if they are dependable, keep them.22 Non lædas servum in veritate operantem,
neque mercenarium dantem animam suam.
23 If you have sons, chastise them; bend their necks from childhood.23 Servus sensatus sit tibi dilectus quasi anima tua :
non defraudes illum libertate,
neque inopem derelinquas illum.
24 If you have daughters, keep them chaste, and be not indulgent to them.24 Pecora tibi sunt, attende illis :
et si sunt utilia, perseverent apud te.
25 Giving your daughter in marriage ends a great task; but give her to a worthy man.25 Filii tibi sunt ? erudi illos,
et curva illos a pueritia illorum.
26 If you have a wife, let her not seem odious to you; but where there is ill-feeling, trust her not.26 Filiæ tibi sunt ? serva corpus illarum,
et non ostendas hilarem faciem tuam ad illas.
27 With your whole heart honor your father; your mother's birthpangs forget not.27 Trade filiam, et grande opus feceris :
et homini sensato da illam.
28 Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave you?28 Mulier si est tibi secundum animam tuam, non projicias illam :
et odibili non credas te.
In toto corde tuo
29 With all your soul, fear God, revere his priests.29 honora patrem tuum,
et gemitus matris tuæ ne obliviscaris :
30 With all your strength, love your Creator, forsake not his ministers.30 memento quoniam nisi per illos natus non fuisses :
et retribue illis, quomodo et illi tibi.
31 Honor God and respect the priest; give him his portion as you have been commanded: First fruits and contributions, due sacrifices and holy offerings.31 In tota anima tua time Dominum,
et sacerdotes illius sanctifica.
32 To the poor man also extend your hand, that your blessing may be complete;32 In omni virtute tua dilige eum qui te fecit,
et ministros ejus ne derelinquas.
33 Be generous to all the living, and withhold not your kindness from the dead.33 Honora Deum ex tota anima tua,
et honorifica sacerdotes,
et propurga te cum brachiis.
34 Avoid not those who weep, but mourn with those who mourn;34 Da illis partem, sicut mandatum est tibi, primitiarum et purgationis,
et de negligentia tua purga te cum paucis.
35 Neglect not to visit the sick-- for these things you will be loved.35 Datum brachiorum tuorum,
et sacrificium sanctificationis offeres Domino,
et initia sanctorum.
36 In whatever you do, remember your last days, and you will never sin.36 Et pauperi porrige manum tuam,
ut perficiatur propitiatio et benedictio tua.
37 Gratia dati in conspectu omnis viventis,
et mortuo non prohibeas gratiam.
38 Non desis plorantibus in consolatione,
et cum lugentibus ambula.
39 Non te pigeat visitare infirmum :
ex his enim in dilectione firmaberis.
40 In omnibus operibus tuis memorare novissima tua,
et in æternum non peccabis.
