Sirach 7

1 Do no evil, and evil will not overtake you;	1 Non fare il male e il male non ti prenderà.
2 avoid wickedness, and it will turn aside from you.	2 Allontanati dall'ingiustizia ed essa starà lontana da te.
3 Sow not in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold.	3 Non seminare nei solchi dell'ingiustizia perché non la raccolga per sette volte.
4 Seek not from the LORD authority, nor from the king a place of honor.	4 Non chiedere al Signore la supremazia, né al re un seggio di gloria.
5 Parade not your justice before the Lord, and before the king flaunt not your wisdom.	5 Non giustificarti davanti al Signore e non fare il saggio al cospetto del re.
6 Seek not to become a judge if you have not strength to root out crime, Or you will show favor to the ruler and mar your integrity.	6 Non cercare di diventare giudice se ti manca la forza d'estirpare l'ingiustizia, per non avere intimidazioni dal potente e non venire a compromesso con la tua onestà.
7 Be guilty of no evil before the city's populace, nor disgrace yourself before the assembly.	7 Non fare un sopruso contro la città per non inimicarti tutto il popolo.
8 Do not plot to repeat a sin; not even for one will you go unpunished.	8 Non legarti due volte col peccato, già con una sei colpevole.
9 Say not: "He will appreciate my many gifts; the Most High will accept my offerings."	9 Non dire: "Si guarderà all'abbondanza dei miei doni e sarà accetta la mia offerta al Dio Altissimo".
10 Be not impatient in prayers, and neglect not the giving of alms.	10 Non essere impaziente nella tua preghiera e non mancare di fare l'elemosina.
11 Laugh not at an embittered man; be mindful of him who exalts and humbles.	11 Non irridere un uomo nella sua amarezza: uno solo è colui che umilia ed esalta.
12 Plot no mischief against your brother, nor against your friend and companion.	12 Non spargere menzogna sul tuo fratello, e lo stesso non fare con l'amico.
13 Delight not in telling lie after lie, for it never results in good.	13 Evita di dire qualsiasi menzogna, è un'abitudine che non giova al bene.
14 Thrust not yourself into the deliberations of princes, and repeat not the words of your prayer.	14 Non essere chiacchierone fra gli anziani, e non ripetere le parole nella preghiera.
15 Hate not laborious tasks, nor farming, which was ordained by the Most High.	15 Non disprezzare il lavoro pesante, né l'agricoltura, creata dall'Altissimo.
16 Do not esteem yourself better than your fellows; remember, his wrath will not delay.	16 Non associarti nella compagnia dei peccatori: ricòrdati che l'ira non tarderà.
17 More and more, humble your pride; what awaits man is worms.	17 Umìliati molto da te stesso, perché il giudizio dell'empio è fuoco e vermi.
18 Barter not a friend for money, nor a dear brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 Non tradire un amico per denaro né un vero fratello per l'oro di Ofir.
19 Dismiss not a sensible wife; a gracious wife is more precious than corals.	19 Non perdere l'occasione d'una moglie saggia e buona, perché la sua grazia vale più dell'oro.
20 Mistreat not a servant who faithfully serves, nor a laborer who devotes himself to his task.	20 Non maltrattare il servo che lavora fedelmente, né l'operaio che s'impegna totalmente.
21 Let a wise servant be dear to you as your own self; refuse him not his freedom.	21 Ama lo schiavo giudizioso, non rifiutargli la libertà.
22 If you have livestock, look after them; if they are dependable, keep them.	22 Hai armenti? Curali attentamente; se sono produttivi, mantienili.
23 If you have sons, chastise them; bend their necks from childhood.	23 Hai figli? Pensa alla loro educazione, piega loro il collo fin da bambini.
24 If you have daughters, keep them chaste, and be not indulgent to them.	24 Hai figlie? Veglia sul loro corpo, e con loro non allietare il volto.
25 Giving your daughter in marriage ends a great task; but give her to a worthy man.	25 Sposa tua figlia e così risolverai un grosso problema, dàlla ad un uomo che sia di senno.
26 If you have a wife, let her not seem odious to you; but where there is ill-feeling, trust her not.	26 Hai una moglie che ti piace? Non ripudiarla; ma non confidarti con la moglie se la detesti.
27 With your whole heart honor your father; your mother's birthpangs forget not.	27 Onora tuo padre con tutto il cuore, e non dimenticare le doglie di tua madre.
28 Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave you?	28 Ricòrdati che da loro fosti generato; potrai ricambiarli per quanto hanno fatto?
29 With all your soul, fear God, revere his priests.	29 Temi il Signore con tutta l'anima e riverisci i suoi sacerdoti.
30 With all your strength, love your Creator, forsake not his ministers.	30 Ama con tutta la forza colui che ti ha fatto e non trascurare i suoi ministri.
31 Honor God and respect the priest; give him his portion as you have been commanded: First fruits and contributions, due sacrifices and holy offerings.	31 Temi il Signore e onora il sacerdote, dàgli la sua parte come è prescritto; le primizie, le offerte del peccato e la porzione delle spalle, il sacrificio di santificazione e le primizie sacre.
32 To the poor man also extend your hand, that your blessing may be complete;	32 Stendi la tua mano anche al povero, perché ti giunga piena benedizione.
33 Be generous to all the living, and withhold not your kindness from the dead.	33 Se il dono piace ai vivi, anche con i morti non essere avaro.
34 Avoid not those who weep, but mourn with those who mourn;	34 Non voltare le spalle a quelli che piangono e soffri con quelli che soffrono.
35 Neglect not to visit the sick-- for these things you will be loved.	35 Non temere di visitare gli ammalati, perché da loro sarai riamato.
36 In whatever you do, remember your last days, and you will never sin.	36 In tutte le tue azioni ricorda la fine, e così mai peccherai.
