Sirach 7

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Do no evil, and evil will not overtake you;	1 No hagas el mal, y el mal no se apoderará de ti;
2 avoid wickedness, and it will turn aside from you.	2 apártate de la injusticia, y ella se apartará de ti.
3 Sow not in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold.	3 No siembres, hijo mío, en los surcos de la injusticia, no sea que coseches siete veces más.
4 Seek not from the LORD authority, nor from the king a place of honor.	4 No pidas al Señor un puesto importante ni al rey un sitial de honor.
5 Parade not your justice before the Lord, and before the king flaunt not your wisdom.	5 No quieras pasar por justo delante del Señor ni te hagas el sabio delante del rey.
6 Seek not to become a judge if you have not strength to root out crime, Or you will show favor to the ruler and mar your integrity.	6 No aspires al cargo de juez, no sea que no puedas extirpar las injusticias o te dejes intimidar por un poderoso, y así pongas en peligro tu rectitud.
7 Be guilty of no evil before the city's populace, nor disgrace yourself before the assembly.	7 No ofendas a la asamblea de la ciudad ni te degrades delante de la multitud.
8 Do not plot to repeat a sin; not even for one will you go unpunished.	8 No incurras dos veces en pecado, porque ni uno solo quedará impune.
9 Say not: "He will appreciate my many gifts; the Most High will accept my offerings."	9 No digas: «El Señor apreciará la multitud de mis dones; cuando los presente al Dios Altísimo, él los aceptará».
10 Be not impatient in prayers, and neglect not the giving of alms.	10 No dejes de orar confiadamente ni te olvides de dar limosna.
11 Laugh not at an embittered man; be mindful of him who exalts and humbles.	11 No te burles del hombre que está amargado, porque hay Alguien que humilla y también exalta.
12 Plot no mischief against your brother, nor against your friend and companion.	12 No urdas mentiras contra tu hermano ni lo hagas tampoco contra un amigo.
13 Delight not in telling lie after lie, for it never results in good.	13 No digas nunca una mentira, porque esa costumbre no conduce a nada bueno.
14 Thrust not yourself into the deliberations of princes, and repeat not the words of your prayer.	14 No hables demasiado en la asamblea de los ancianos ni repitas las palabras en tu oración.
15 Hate not laborious tasks, nor farming, which was ordained by the Most High.	15 No detestes los trabajos penosos ni el trabajo del campo, creado por el Altísimo.
16 Do not esteem yourself better than your fellows; remember, his wrath will not delay.	16 No te agregues a la multitud de los pecadores: recuerda que la ira del Señor no tardará.
17 More and more, humble your pride; what awaits man is worms.	17 Sé profundamente humilde, porque fuego y gusanos son el castigo del impío.
18 Barter not a friend for money, nor a dear brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 No cambies a un amigo por dinero ni a un verdadero hermano por el oro de Ofir.
19 Dismiss not a sensible wife; a gracious wife is more precious than corals.	19 No te apartes de una mujer sabia y buena, porque su encanto vale más que el oro.
20 Mistreat not a servant who faithfully serves, nor a laborer who devotes himself to his task.	20 No maltrates al servidor que trabaja fielmente ni al jornalero que se da por entero.
21 Let a wise servant be dear to you as your own self; refuse him not his freedom.	21 Ama de corazón a un servidor inteligente y no lo prives de su libertad.
22 If you have livestock, look after them; if they are dependable, keep them.	22 Si tienes ganado, cuídalo bien, y si te da ganancia, consérvalo.
23 If you have sons, chastise them; bend their necks from childhood.	23 Si tienes hijos, edúcalos y exígeles obediencia desde su niñez.
24 If you have daughters, keep them chaste, and be not indulgent to them.	24 Si tienes hijas, cuídalas para que sean castas y no te muestres demasiado blando con ellas.
25 Giving your daughter in marriage ends a great task; but give her to a worthy man.	25 Casa a tu hija, y habrás hecho una gran obra, pero dásela a un hombre inteligente.
26 If you have a wife, let her not seem odious to you; but where there is ill-feeling, trust her not.	26 Si quieres a tu mujer, no la repudies, pero si no la amas, no te fíes de ella.
27 With your whole heart honor your father; your mother's birthpangs forget not.	27 Glorifica a tu padre de todo corazón y no olvides los dolores de tu madre;
28 Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave you?	28 acuérdate que les debes la vida: ¿cómo les retribuirás lo que hicieron por ti?
29 With all your soul, fear God, revere his priests.	29 Reverencia al Señor con toda tu alma y venera a sus sacerdotes.
30 With all your strength, love your Creator, forsake not his ministers.	30 Ama a tu Creador con todas tus fuerzas y no abandones a sus ministros.
31 Honor God and respect the priest; give him his portion as you have been commanded: First fruits and contributions, due sacrifices and holy offerings.	31 Teme al Señor y glorifica al sacerdote, dale su parte, como se te ha mandado: las primicias, el sacrificio de reparación y el lomo de las víctimas, las ofrendas consagradas y la primicia de las cosas santas.
32 To the poor man also extend your hand, that your blessing may be complete;	32 Tiende la mano también al pobre, y serás plenamente bendecido;
33 Be generous to all the living, and withhold not your kindness from the dead.	33 sé generoso con todos los vivientes y no niegues tu piedad a los muertos;
34 Avoid not those who weep, but mourn with those who mourn;	34 no des la espalda a los que lloran y comparte la aflicción de los que sufren;
35 Neglect not to visit the sick-- for these things you will be loved.	35 no dejes de visitar al enfermo: con tales obras te harás amar.
36 In whatever you do, remember your last days, and you will never sin.	36 En todas tus acciones, acuérdate de tu fin y no pecarás jamás.
