Sirach 7

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBLIA
1 Do no evil, and evil will not overtake you;	1 No hagas mal, y el mal no te dominará,
2 avoid wickedness, and it will turn aside from you.	2 sepárate del injusto, y él se alejará de ti.
3 Sow not in the furrows of injustice, lest you harvest it sevenfold.	3 No siempres, hijo, en surcos de injusticia, no sea que coseches siete veces más.
4 Seek not from the LORD authority, nor from the king a place of honor.	4 No pidas al Señor la preeminencia, ni al rey silla de gloria.
5 Parade not your justice before the Lord, and before the king flaunt not your wisdom.	5 No te hagas el justo delante del Señor, ante el rey no te las des de sabio.
6 Seek not to become a judge if you have not strength to root out crime, Or you will show favor to the ruler and mar your integrity.	6 No te empeñes en llegar a ser juez, no sea que no puedas extirpar la injusticia, o te dejes influir del poderoso, y pongas un tropiezo en tu entereza.
7 Be guilty of no evil before the city's populace, nor disgrace yourself before the assembly.	7 No peques contra la asamblea de la ciudad, ni te rebajes a ti mismo ante el pueblo.
8 Do not plot to repeat a sin; not even for one will you go unpunished.	8 En el pecado no te enredes dos veces, pues ni una sola quedarás impune.
9 Say not: "He will appreciate my many gifts; the Most High will accept my offerings."	9 No digas: «Pondrá él sus ojos en la abundancia de mis dones, cuando se los presente al Dios Altísimo, los aceptará».
10 Be not impatient in prayers, and neglect not the giving of alms.	10 No seas en tu plegaria pusilánime, y hacer limosna no descuides.
11 Laugh not at an embittered man; be mindful of him who exalts and humbles.	11 No te burles del hombre que vive en aflicción, porque el que humilla, también exalta.
12 Plot no mischief against your brother, nor against your friend and companion.	12 No trames mentira contra tu hermano ni hagas otro tanto con tu amigo.
13 Delight not in telling lie after lie, for it never results in good.	13 Propónte no decir mentira alguna, que persistir en ello no lleva a nada bueno.
14 Thrust not yourself into the deliberations of princes, and repeat not the words of your prayer.	14 No seas hablador en la reunión de los ancianos, en tu plegaria no repitas palabras.
15 Hate not laborious tasks, nor farming, which was ordained by the Most High.	15 No rehúyas el trabajo penoso, ni la labor del campo que creó el Altísimo.
16 Do not esteem yourself better than your fellows; remember, his wrath will not delay.	16 No te incluyas en el grupo de los pecadores, recuerda que la Cólera no se hará esperar.
17 More and more, humble your pride; what awaits man is worms.	17 Humilla hondamente tu alma, que el castigo del impío es fuego y gusanos.
18 Barter not a friend for money, nor a dear brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 No cambies un amigo por dinero, ni un hermano de veras por el oro de Ofir.
19 Dismiss not a sensible wife; a gracious wife is more precious than corals.	19 No faltes a la mujer sabia y buena, que su gracia vale más que el oro.
20 Mistreat not a servant who faithfully serves, nor a laborer who devotes himself to his task.	20 No maltrates al criado que trabaja fielmente, ni al jornalero que pone su empeño.
21 Let a wise servant be dear to you as your own self; refuse him not his freedom.	21 Al criado prudente ame tu alma, y no le prives de la libertad.
22 If you have livestock, look after them; if they are dependable, keep them.	22 ¿Tienes rebaños? Pásales revista; y si te dan ganancia, consérvalos.
23 If you have sons, chastise them; bend their necks from childhood.	23 ¿Tienes hijos? Adoctrínalos, doblega su cerviz desde su juventud.
24 If you have daughters, keep them chaste, and be not indulgent to them.	24 ¿Tienes hijas? Cuídate de ellas, y no pongas ante ellas cara muy risueña.
25 Giving your daughter in marriage ends a great task; but give her to a worthy man.	25 Casa a tu hija y habrás hecho una gran cosa, pero dásela a un hombre prudente.
26 If you have a wife, let her not seem odious to you; but where there is ill-feeling, trust her not.	26 ¿Tienes una mujer que te gusta? No la despidas, pero si la aborreces, no te confíes a ella.
27 With your whole heart honor your father; your mother's birthpangs forget not.	27 Con todo tu corazón honra a tu padre, y no olvides los dolores de tu madre.
28 Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave you?	28 Recuerda que por ellos has nacido, ¿cómo les pagarás lo que contigo han hecho?
29 With all your soul, fear God, revere his priests.	29 Con toda tu alma reverencia al Señor, y venera a sus sacerdotes.
30 With all your strength, love your Creator, forsake not his ministers.	30 Con todas tus fuerzas ama al que te hizo, y a sus ministros no abandones.
31 Honor God and respect the priest; give him his portion as you have been commanded: First fruits and contributions, due sacrifices and holy offerings.	31 Teme al Señor y honra el sacerdote, dale su porción como te está prescrito: primicias, sacrificios de reparación, pierna de las ofrendas, oblación de santidad y primicias de las cosas sagradas.
32 To the poor man also extend your hand, that your blessing may be complete;	32 También al pobre tiéndele tu mano, para que tu bendición sea perfecta.
33 Be generous to all the living, and withhold not your kindness from the dead.	33 La gracia de tu dádiva llegue a todo viviente, ni siquiera a los muertos les rehúses tu gracia.
34 Avoid not those who weep, but mourn with those who mourn;	34 No te rezagues ante los que lloran, y con los afligidos muéstrate afligido.
35 Neglect not to visit the sick-- for these things you will be loved.	35 No descuides visitar al enfermo, que por obras de éstas ganarás amor.
36 In whatever you do, remember your last days, and you will never sin.	36 En todas tus acciones ten presente tu fin, y jamás cometerás pecado.
