1 A wise magistrate lends stability to his people, and the government of a prudent man is well ordered.	1 Il saggio magistrato renderà giustizia al suo popolo, e il governo dell'uomo assennato sarà stabile.
2 As the people's judge, so are his ministers; as the head of a city, its inhabitants.	2 Quale è il capo del popolo, tali i suoi ministri; quale il governatore d'una città, tali i suoi abitanti.
3 A wanton king destroys his people, but a city grows through the wisdom of its princes.	3 Un re imprudente rovinerà il suo popolo, e le città saranno ingrandite per la prudenza dei grandi.
4 Sovereignty over the earth is in the hand of God, who raises up on it the man of the hour;	4 Ilgoverno del mondo è nelle mani di Dio, ed Egli a suo tempo farà sorgere il re che ci vuole.
5 Sovereignty over every man is in the hand of God, who imparts his majesty to the ruler.	5 La felicità dell'uomo è nelle mani di Dio, ed Egli donerà la sua maestà alla faccia dello scriba.
6 No matter the wrong, do no violence to your neighbor, and do not walk the path of arrogance.	6 Non ricordare le ingiurie ricevute dal prossimo, e non far nulla che sia ingiurioso.
7 Odious to the LORD and to men is arrogance, and the sin of oppression they both hate.	7 La superbia è odiata da Dio e dagli uomini, ed è in esecrazione ogni iniquità delle genti.
8 Dominion is transferred from one people to another because of the violence of the arrogant.	8 L'impero passa da una nazione all'altra a causa delle ingiustizie, delle violenze, degli oltraggi e d'ogni specie d'inganni.
9 Why are dust and ashes proud? even during life man's body decays;	9 Nulla di più scelerato dell'avaro. Come può insuperbire la terra e la cenere?
10 A slight illness--the doctor jests, a king today--tomorrow he is dead.	10 Niente è più iniquo di colui che ama il danaro: egli infatti mette in vendita anche l'anima sua, giacché da vivo si cava le proprie viscere.
11 When a man dies, he inherits corruption; worms and gnats and maggots.	11 Corta è la vita d'ogni potere. La lunga malattia stanca il medico,
12 The beginning of pride is man's stubbornness in withdrawing his heart from his Maker;	12 il medico tronca la corta malattia: così il re oggi vive e domani è morto.
13 For pride is the reservoir of sin, a source which runs over with vice; Because of it God sends unheard-of afflictions and brings men to utter ruin.	13 E quando l'uomo è morto avrà, per suo retaggio serpenti, bestie e vermi.
14 The thrones of the arrogant God overturns and establishes the lowly in their stead.	14 Il principio della superbia dell'uomo è l'apostasia da Dio:
15 The roots of the proud God plucks up, to plant the humble in their place:	15 infatti il suo cuore s'allontana da colui che lo creò; e il primo di tutti i peccati è la superbia. Chi starà attaccato a lei sarà pieno di maledizioni, e alla fine andrà in rovina.
16 He breaks down their stem to the level of the ground, then digs their roots from the earth.	16 Per questo il Signore ha svergognate le riunioni dei malvagi, e li ha distrutti fino allo sterminio.
17 The traces of the proud God sweeps away and effaces the memory of them from the earth.	17 Dio ha gettato a terra i troni dei principi superbi, e al loro posto vi ha fatto sedere i miti.
18 Insolence is not allotted to a man, nor stubborn anger to one born of woman.	18 Dio ha fatto seccare le radici delle nazioni superbe, e al loro posto ha piantate le umili.
19 Whose offspring can be in honor? Those of men. Which offspring are in honor? Those who fear God. Whose offspring can be in disgrace? Those of men. Which offspring are in disgrace? Those who transgress the commandments.	19 Dio ha distrutte le terre delle nazioni, le ha rovinate sin dai fondamenti,
20 Among brethren their leader is in honor; he who fears God is in honor among his people.	20 Ne ha fatte seccare molte, ne ha dispersi gli abitanti, ha fatto sparire dal mondo la loro memoria.
21 Be it tenant or wayfarer, alien or pauper, his glory is the fear of the LORD.	21 Dio ha fatto sparire il ricordo dei superbi ed ha lasciata la memoria degli umili di spirito.
22 It is not just to despise a man who is wise but poor, nor proper to honor any sinner.	22 Non fu creata per gli uomini la superbia, nè l'iracondia per i nati di donna.
23 The prince, the ruler, the judge are in honor; but none is greater than he who fears God.	23 La razza degli uomini che teme Dio sarà onorata, e disonorata sarà quella razza che trasgredisce i comandamenti del Signore.
24 When free men serve a prudent slave, the wise man does not complain.	24 Tra i fratelli è onorato il loro capo, ma agli occhi del Signore quelli che lo temono.
25 Flaunt not your wisdom in managing your affairs, and boast not in your time of need.	25 La gloria dei ricchi, dei grandi e dei poveri è il timor di Dio.
26 Better the worker who has plenty of everything than the boaster who is without bread.	26 Guardati dal disprezzare il giusto povero e dal fare grande stima del peccatore ricco.
27 My son, with humility have self-esteem; prize yourself as you deserve.	27 I grandi, i magistrati, i potenti sono in onore, ma nessuno è più grande di colui che teme Dio.
28 Who will acquit him who condemns himself? who will honor him who discredits himself?	28 Al servo sapiente serviranno gli uomini liberi; l'uomo prudente e disciplinato non mormorerà, se corretto, e l'ignorante non sarà onorato.
29 The poor man is honored for his wisdom as the rich man is honored for his wealth;	29 Non pensare troppo altamente di te quando devi fare un lavoro, e non stare a vedere nel tempo del bisogno.
30 Honored in poverty, how much more so in wealth! Dishonored in wealth, in poverty how much the more!	30 Val più colui che lavora e abbonda di tutto, che uno che si vanta e manca di pane.
	31 Figliolo, colla mansuetudine conserva la tua anima, e rendile onore secondo il suo merito.
	32 Chi giustificherà colui che pecca contro l'anima, propria? Chi onorerà colui che disonora la sua anima?
	33 Il povero è onorato per la sua istruzione e il suo timore, e v'è anche l'uomo onorato per le sue ricchezze.
	34 Ma chi è glorioso nella povertà, quanto più sarebbe nelle ricchezze? Colui che si gloria delle ricchezze tema la povertà.
