NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 A wise magistrate lends stability to his people, and the government of a prudent man is well ordered.	1 Un gobernante sabio educa a su pueblo y la autoridad del hombre inteligente se ejerce con orden.
2 As the people's judge, so are his ministers; as the head of a city, its inhabitants.	2 Como el gobernante de un pueblo, así son sus ministros, y como el jefe de la ciudad, así son sus habitantes.
3 A wanton king destroys his people, but a city grows through the wisdom of its princes.	3 Un rey ignorante es la ruina de su pueblo y una ciudad prospera por la inteligencia de los príncipes.
4 Sovereignty over the earth is in the hand of God, who raises up on it the man of the hour;	4 En manos del Señor está el dominio de la tierra y, en el momento preciso, le envía el hombre que conviene.
5 Sovereignty over every man is in the hand of God, who imparts his majesty to the ruler.	5 En manos del Señor está el éxito de un hombre y él infundirá su gloria a la persona del legislador.
6 No matter the wrong, do no violence to your neighbor, and do not walk the path of arrogance.	6 No guardes rencor a tu prójimo por ninguna injuria ni hagas nada en un arrebato de violencia.
7 Odious to the LORD and to men is arrogance, and the sin of oppression they both hate.	7 La soberbia es odiosa al Señor y a los hombres y la injusticia es ofensiva para ambos.
8 Dominion is transferred from one people to another because of the violence of the arrogant.	8 La realeza pasa de una nación a otra, a causa de la injusticia, la prepotencia y la codicia.
9 Why are dust and ashes proud? even during life man's body decays;	9 ¿De qué se ensoberbece el que es polvo y ceniza, si aún en vida sus entrañas están llenas de podredumbre?
10 A slight illness--the doctor jests, a king today--tomorrow he is dead.	10 Una larga enfermedad desconcierta al médico, y el que hoy es rey, mañana morirá.
11 When a man dies, he inherits corruption; worms and gnats and maggots.	11 Cuando un hombre muere, recibe como herencia larvas, fieras y gusanos.
12 The beginning of pride is man's stubbornness in withdrawing his heart from his Maker;	12 El orgullo comienza cuando el hombre se aparta del Señor y su corazón se aleja de aquel que lo creó.
13 For pride is the reservoir of sin, a source which runs over with vice; Because of it God sends unheard-of afflictions and brings men to utter ruin.	13 Porque el comienzo del orgullo es el pecado y el que persiste en él, hace llover la abominación: por eso el Señor envió calamidades imprevistas y arrasó a los soberbios hasta aniquilarlos.
14 The thrones of the arrogant God overturns and establishes the lowly in their stead.	14 El Señor derribó los tronos de los poderosos y entronizó a los mansos en lugar de ellos.
15 The roots of the proud God plucks up, to plant the humble in their place:	15 El Señor arrancó de raíz a las naciones y plantó a los humildes en lugar de ellos.
16 He breaks down their stem to the level of the ground, then digs their roots from the earth.	16 El Señor arrasó los territorios de las naciones y las destruyó hasta los cimientos de la tierra.
17 The traces of the proud God sweeps away and effaces the memory of them from the earth.	17 A Algunos las arrasó y las hizo desaparecer, y borró hasta su recuerdo de la tierra.
18 Insolence is not allotted to a man, nor stubborn anger to one born of woman.	18 El orgullo no fue creado para el hombre ni el arrebato de la ira para los nacidos de mujer.
19 Whose offspring can be in honor? Those of men. Which offspring are in honor? Those who fear God. Whose offspring can be in disgrace? Those of men. Which offspring are in disgrace? Those who transgress the commandments.	19 ¿Qué raza es digna de honor? La raza humana. ¿Qué raza es digna de honor? Los que temen al Señor. ¿Qué raza es despreciable? La raza humana. ¿Qué raza es despreciable? Los que no cumplen la Ley.
20 Among brethren their leader is in honor; he who fears God is in honor among his people.	20 Entre los hermanos se honra al que es su jefe, pero el Señor honra a los que lo temen.
21 Be it tenant or wayfarer, alien or pauper, his glory is the fear of the LORD.	21 [El comienzo de la aceptación es el temor del Señor, y el comienzo del rechazo es el endurecimiento y el orgullo.]
22 It is not just to despise a man who is wise but poor, nor proper to honor any sinner.	22 Para el rico, el ilustre o el pobre la única gloria es el temor del Señor.
23 The prince, the ruler, the judge are in honor; but none is greater than he who fears God.	23 No es justo despreciar a un pobre inteligente ni está bien glorificar a un hombre pecador.
24 When free men serve a prudent slave, the wise man does not complain.	24 El grande, el magistrado y el poderoso son dignos de honra, pero el que teme al Señor es superior a todos ellos.
25 Flaunt not your wisdom in managing your affairs, and boast not in your time of need.	25 Hombres libres servirán a un esclavo sabio y el hombre que entiende no lo tomará a mal.
26 Better the worker who has plenty of everything than the boaster who is without bread.	26 No te hagas el sabio cuando realizas tu tarea ni te gloríes en el momento de la penuria.
27 My son, with humility have self-esteem; prize yourself as you deserve.	27 Mas vale el que trabaja y vive en la abundancia que el que anda gloriándose y no tiene qué comer.
28 Who will acquit him who condemns himself? who will honor him who discredits himself?	28 Hijo mío, gloríate con la debida modestia y estímate según tu justo valor.
29 The poor man is honored for his wisdom as the rich man is honored for his wealth;	29 ¿Quién justificará al que se daña a sí mismo y quién glorificará al que se desprecia?
30 Honored in poverty, how much more so in wealth! Dishonored in wealth, in poverty how much the more!	30 Al pobre se lo honra por su saber y al rico por sus riquezas.
	31 El que es glorificado en la pobreza, ¡cuánto más lo será en la riqueza! El que es menospreciado en la riqueza, ¡cuánto más lo será en la pobreza!
