1 Like snow in summer, or rain in harvest, honor for a fool is out of place.	1 - Come all'estate la neve, come alla mèsse la pioggia, così allo stolto la gloria non sta bene.
2 Like the sparrow in its flitting, like the swallow in its flight, a curse uncalled-for arrives nowhere.	2 Come uccello che passa via, come passero che se ne va, così la maledizione scagliata senza motivo, sorvolerà su chiunque fu detta.
3 The whip for the horse, the bridle for the ass, and the rod for the back of fools.	3 La sferza al cavallo, la cavezza all'asino, e al dosso degli stolti, il bastone.
4 Answer not the fool according to his folly, lest you too become like him.	4 Non risponder allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza, affinchè non diventi par suo anche tu.
5 Answer the fool according to his folly, lest he become wise in his own eyes.	5 Rispondi allo stolto secondo la sua stoltezza, affinchè non si creda saggio ai suoi occhi.
6 He cuts off his feet, he drinks down violence, who sends messages by a fool.	6 Resta a piè zoppo e col male in corpochi manda commissioni per mezzo d'uno stolto.
7 A proverb in the mouth of a fool hangs limp, like crippled legs.	7 Come a uno zoppo non serve aver belli gli stinchi, così non serve il proverbio in bocca agli stolti.
8 Like one who entangles the stone in the sling is he who gives honor to a fool.	8 Come chi getta sassi alle macerie, così chi dà lode allo stolto.
9 Like a thorn stick brandished by the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.	9 Come uno spino se in mano a un ubriaco spuntasse, così il proverbio in bocca agli stolti.
10 Like an archer wounding all who pass by is he who hires a drunken fool.	10 La sentenza tronca le litie chi impone il silenzio allo stolto acqueta gli sdegni.
11 As the dog returns to his vomit, so the fool repeats his folly.	11 Come il cane che ritorna al vomito, così lo stolto che ricasca nella sua stoltezza.
12 You see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.	12 Hai visto un uomo sapiente ai suoi propri occhi? c'è da aspettarsi più da uno stolto che da costui.
13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the street, a lion in the middle of the square!"	13 Dice il pigro: «Di fuori c'è il leone, c'è la pantera per istrada».
14 The door turns on its hinges, the sluggard, on his bed!	14 Come la porta si gira sui propri cardinicosì il pigro nel proprio letto.
15 The sluggard loses his hand in the dish; he is too weary to lift it to his mouth.	15 Il pigro mette la mano sotto l'ascella, e a stento la ritira per portarsela alla bocca.
16 The sluggard imagines himself wiser than seven men who answer with good sense.	16 Ai suoi occhi lo stolto è più sapientedi sette uomini che dànno responsi assennati.
17 Like the man who seizes a passing dog by the ears is he who meddles in a quarrel not his own.	17 Come chi afferra un cane per gli orecchi, così il passante impronto che s'immischia nelle questioni altrui.
18 Like a crazed archer scattering firebrands and deadly arrows	18 Come è colpevole chi lancia dardi e giavellotti micidiali,
19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor, and then says, "I was only joking."	19 così chi dolosamente nuoce all'amico, e preso in fallo dice: «Lo feci per celia».
20 For lack of wood, the fire dies out; and when there is no talebearer, strife subsides.	20 Col finir delle legna il fuoco si spegne, e levato di mezzo il detrattore, si sopiscono le contese.
21 What a bellows is to live coals, what wood is to fire, such is a contentious man in enkindling strife.	21 Il carbone per la brace, la legna pel fuoco e l'accattabrighe per attizzar le risse.
22 The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one's inmost being.	22 Le parole del maldicente paiono cose delle più lievi, ma s'insinuano sino al fondo delle viscere.
23 Like a glazed finish on earthenware are smooth lips with a wicked heart.	23 Come chi vuole inverniciare un vaso di terracotta con argentone, così chi unisce labbra riboccanti d'affetto a tristo cuore.
24 With his lips an enemy pretends, but in his inmost being he maintains deceit;	24 Dal suo parlare si conosce il nemico, quando in cuor suo ha progettato l'inganno.
25 When he speaks graciously, trust him not, for seven abominations are in his heart.	25 Quando fa la voce sommessa non credergli, poichè sette scelleratezze sono nel suo cuore.
26 A man may conceal hatred under dissimulation, but his malice will be revealed in the assembly.	26 Chi nasconde dolosamente il suo odio, vedrà la sua malizia svelata nell'assemblea.
27 He who digs a pit falls into it; and a stone comes back upon him who rolls it.	27 Chi scava la fossa ci casca dentro, e la pietra ritorna su chi l'ha rotata.
28 The lying tongue is its owner's enemy, and the flattering mouth works ruin.	28 La lingua bugiarda non ama la schiettezza e la bocca adulatrice prepara i precipizi.
