1 Like snow in summer, or rain in harvest, honor for a fool is out of place.	1 Como nieve en verano y lluvia en la siega, así de mal le sienta la gloria al insensato.
2 Like the sparrow in its flitting, like the swallow in its flight, a curse uncalled-for arrives nowhere.	2 Como se escapa el pájaro y vuela la golondrina, así no se realiza la maldición sin motivo.
3 The whip for the horse, the bridle for the ass, and the rod for the back of fools.	3 Látigo para el caballo, brida para el asno y vara para la espalda de los necios.
4 Answer not the fool according to his folly, lest you too become like him.	4 No respondas al necio según su necedad, no sea que tú también te vuelvas como él.
5 Answer the fool according to his folly, lest he become wise in his own eyes.	5 Responde al necio según su necedad, no vaya a creerse que es un sabio.
6 He cuts off his feet, he drinks down violence, who sends messages by a fool.	6 Se corta los pies, se empapa de amargura, el que envía un recado en mano de necio.
7 A proverb in the mouth of a fool hangs limp, like crippled legs.	7 Como las piernas vacilantes del cojo, es el proverbio en boca de los necios.
8 Like one who entangles the stone in the sling is he who gives honor to a fool.	8 Como sujetar una piedra en la honda, es conceder honores a un necio.
9 Like a thorn stick brandished by the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.	9 Como espino que va a parar a mano de borracho, es el proverbio en boca de los necios.
10 Like an archer wounding all who pass by is he who hires a drunken fool.	10 Como arquero que a todos hiere, es el que toma a sueldo al necio y al borracho que pasan.
11 As the dog returns to his vomit, so the fool repeats his folly.	11 Como el perro vuelve a su vómito, vuelve el necio a su insensatez.
12 You see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.	12 ¿Has visto a un hombre que se cree sabio? Más se puede esperar de un necio que de él.
13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the street, a lion in the middle of the square!"	13 Dice el perezoso: «¡Un león en el camino! ¡Un león en la plaza!»
14 The door turns on its hinges, the sluggard, on his bed!	14 La puerta gira en los goznes, y el perezoso en la cama.
15 The sluggard loses his hand in the dish; he is too weary to lift it to his mouth.	15 El perezoso hunde la mano en el plato; pero le fatiga llevarla a la boca.
16 The sluggard imagines himself wiser than seven men who answer with good sense.	16 El perezoso se tiene por más sabio que siete personas que responden con tacto.
17 Like the man who seizes a passing dog by the ears is he who meddles in a quarrel not his own.	17 Agarra por las orejas a un perro que pasa el que se mete en litigio que no le incumbe.
18 Like a crazed archer scattering firebrands and deadly arrows	18 Como un loco que arroja saetas escondidas, flechas y muerte,
19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor, and then says, "I was only joking."	19 tal es el hombre que engaña a su prójimo, y dice: «¿No ves que estaba bromeando?»
20 For lack of wood, the fire dies out; and when there is no talebearer, strife subsides.	20 Cuando se acaba la leña, se apaga el fuego, cuando no hay chismoso, se apacigua la disputa.
21 What a bellows is to live coals, what wood is to fire, such is a contentious man in enkindling strife.	21 Carbón sobre brasas y leña sobre fuego, es el pleiteador para atizar querellas.
22 The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one's inmost being.	22 Las palabras del delator son golosinas que bajan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.
23 Like a glazed finish on earthenware are smooth lips with a wicked heart.	23 Plata con escorias esmaltada sobre arcilla, son los labios dulces con corazón perverso.
24 With his lips an enemy pretends, but in his inmost being he maintains deceit;	24 El que odia, disimula con sus labios, pero en su interior comete perfidia;
25 When he speaks graciously, trust him not, for seven abominations are in his heart.	25 si da a su voz un tono amable, no te fíes, porque hay siete abominaciones en su corazón.
26 A man may conceal hatred under dissimulation, but his malice will be revealed in the assembly.	26 Encubrirá su odio con engaño, pero en la asamblea se descubrirá su malicia.
27 He who digs a pit falls into it; and a stone comes back upon him who rolls it.	27 El que excava una fosa caerá en ella, el que hace rodar una piedra se le vendrá encima.
28 The lying tongue is its owner's enemy, and the flattering mouth works ruin.	28 La lengua mentirosa odia a sus víctimas, la boca melosa labra la ruina.
