1 Like snow in summer, or rain in harvest, honor for a fool is out of place.	1 Como nieve en verano y lluvia en la cosecha, así de mal le sienta la gloria al insensato.
2 Like the sparrow in its flitting, like the swallow in its flight, a curse uncalled-for arrives nowhere.	2 Como revolotea el pájaro y vuela la golondrina, así no alcanza una maldición gratuita.
3 The whip for the horse, the bridle for the ass, and the rod for the back of fools.	3 El látigo para el caballo, el freno para el asno, y la vara para las espaldas del insensato.
4 Answer not the fool according to his folly, lest you too become like him.	4 No respondas al insensato según su necedad, no sea que también tú te asemejes a él;
5 Answer the fool according to his folly, lest he become wise in his own eyes.	5 responde al insensato según su necedad, no sea que pase por sabio a sus propios ojos.
6 He cuts off his feet, he drinks down violence, who sends messages by a fool.	6 Se mutila los pies, bebe sinsabores, el que envía mensajes por medio de un necio.
7 A proverb in the mouth of a fool hangs limp, like crippled legs.	7 Como las piernas vacilantes del rengo, así es un proverbio en boca de los necios.
8 Like one who entangles the stone in the sling is he who gives honor to a fool.	8 Como sujetar una piedra en la honda, es tributar honores a un insensato.
9 Like a thorn stick brandished by the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.	9 Espina en la mano de un borracho es un proverbio en la boca de los insensatos.
10 Like an archer wounding all who pass by is he who hires a drunken fool.	10 Arquero que hiere a todos los que pasan es el que toma a sueldo a un insensato o a un borracho.
11 As the dog returns to his vomit, so the fool repeats his folly.	11 Como el perro vuelve sobre su vómito, así el insensato reincide en su necedad.
12 You see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.	12 ¿Has visto a un hombre que se tiene por sabio? Se puede esperar más de un necio que de él.
13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the street, a lion in the middle of the square!"	13 El perezoso dice: «¡Hay un león en el camino! ¡Un león por las plazas!.
14 The door turns on its hinges, the sluggard, on his bed!	14 La puerta gira sus bisagras y el perezoso sobre su lecho.
15 The sluggard loses his hand in the dish; he is too weary to lift it to his mouth.	15 El perezoso hunde su mano en el plato y se fatiga de sólo llevarla a la boca.
16 The sluggard imagines himself wiser than seven men who answer with good sense.	16 El perezoso se tiene por más sabio que siete personas que responden con acierto.
17 Like the man who seizes a passing dog by the ears is he who meddles in a quarrel not his own.	17 Como agarrar de las orejas a un perro suelto, es entrometerse en una disputa ajena.
18 Like a crazed archer scattering firebrands and deadly arrows	18 Como un loco que arroja al azar teas y flechas mortíferas,
19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor, and then says, "I was only joking."	19 así es el hombre que engaña a su prójimo y después le dice: «¡No era más que una broma!».
20 For lack of wood, the fire dies out; and when there is no talebearer, strife subsides.	20 Sin leña se apaga el fuego, y si no hay un detractor se apacigua la pelea.
21 What a bellows is to live coals, what wood is to fire, such is a contentious man in enkindling strife.	21 Carbón para las brasas y leña para el fuego es el pendenciero para atizar una disputa.
22 The words of a talebearer are like dainty morsels that sink into one's inmost being.	22 Las palabras del detractor son como golosinas que bajan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.
23 Like a glazed finish on earthenware are smooth lips with a wicked heart.	23 Escorias de plata aplicadas a un vaso de barro son los labios melosos con un corazón maligno.
24 With his lips an enemy pretends, but in his inmost being he maintains deceit;	24 El que odia finge con sus labios, pero alberga engaño en su interior:
25 When he speaks graciously, trust him not, for seven abominations are in his heart.	25 si adopta un tono amable, no te fíes, porque hay siete abominaciones en su corazón;
26 A man may conceal hatred under dissimulation, but his malice will be revealed in the assembly.	26 el odio se puede ocultar con astucia, pero en la asamblea se descubrirá su malicia.
27 He who digs a pit falls into it; and a stone comes back upon him who rolls it.	27 El que cava una fosa caerá en ella, al que hace rodar una piedra, se le vuelve encima.
28 The lying tongue is its owner's enemy, and the flattering mouth works ruin.	28 La lengua mentirosa detesta a sus víctimas y la boca aduladora causa la ruina.
