A psalm. A song for the dedication of the temple. Of David. | 1 [Psalm Canticle for the Dedication of the House Of David] I praise you to the heights, Yahweh, for youhave raised me up, you have not let my foes make merry over me. |
I praise you, LORD, for you raised me up and did not let my enemies rejoice over me. | 2 Yahweh, my God, I cried to you for help and you healed me. |
O LORD, my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. | 3 Yahweh, you have lifted me out of Sheol, from among those who sink into oblivion you have given melife. |
LORD, you brought me up from Sheol; you kept me from going down to the pit. | 4 Make music for Yahweh, al you who are faithful to him, praise his unforgettable holiness. |
Sing praise to the LORD, you faithful; give thanks to God's holy name. | 5 His anger lasts but a moment, his favour through life; In the evening come tears, but with dawn cries ofjoy. |
For divine anger lasts but a moment; divine favor lasts a lifetime. At dusk weeping comes for the night; but at dawn there is rejoicing. | 6 Carefree, I used to think, 'Nothing can ever shake me!' |
Complacent, I once said, "I shall never be shaken." | 7 Your favour, Yahweh, set me on impregnable heights, but you turned away your face and I wasterrified. |
LORD, when you showed me favor I stood like the mighty mountains. But when you hid your face I was struck with terror. | 8 To you, Yahweh, I cal , to my God I cry for mercy. |
To you, LORD, I cried out; with the Lord I pleaded for mercy: | 9 What point is there in my death, my going down to the abyss? Can the dust praise you or proclaimyour faithfulness? |
"What gain is there from my lifeblood, from my going down to the grave? Does dust give you thanks or declare your faithfulness? | 10 Listen, Yahweh, take pity on me, Yahweh, be my help! |
Hear, O LORD, have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper." | 11 You have turned my mourning into dancing, you have stripped off my sackcloth and clothed me withjoy. |
You changed my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness. | 12 So my heart wil sing to you unceasingly, Yahweh, my God, I shal praise you for ever. |
With my whole being I sing endless praise to you. O LORD, my God, forever will I give you thanks. |
