1 Elihu proceeded further and said:	1 Poi Eliu, continuando a parlare, disse:
2 Wait yet a little and I will instruct you, for there are still words to be said on God's behalf.	2 « Sopportami un poco, e t'istruirò, perchè ho ancora da parlare in difesa di Dio.
3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right.	3 Prenderò la mia scienza dal suo principio, e proverò che il mio creatore è giusto.
4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you.	4 Per certo i miei discorsi sono senza menzogna, e la mia perfetta scienza ti sarà provata.
5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked.	5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, perchè egli stesso è potente,
6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed,	6 ma non salva gli empi, e fa giustizia ai poveri.
7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever.	7 Egli non toglie i suoi occhi dal giusto. Egli colloca per sempre i re sul trono ed essi sono esaltati
8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction,	8 e se sono stretti in camene e avvinti dai legami della miseria,
9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride.	9 iddio farà loro veder le loro opere, le loro sceleratezze, le loro violenze,
10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil.	10 aprirà pure loro le orecchie per correggerli, e parlerà loro perchè si ritraggano dall'iniquità.
11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.	11 Se ascolteranno, e obbediranno, finiranno i loro giorni nella felicità, e i loro anni nella gloria;
12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge.	12 ma se non ascolteranno, passeran per la spada e periranno nella loro stoltezza.
13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them;	13 I simulatori e i doppi di cuore provocano l'ira di Dio; nè implorano Dio quando sono in catene.
14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate.	14 La loro anima perirà nella tempesta e la loro vita perirà tra gli effeminati.
15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress.	15 Dio libererà il povero dalle strettezze, e gli aprirà l'orecchio nella tribolazione.
	16 Egli adunque ti salverà dall'abisso stretto e senza fondo, e ti metterà al laigo, e ti riposerai alla tua mensa, carica di grasse vivande.
	17 La tua causa è stata giudicata come quella d'un empio: riceverai secondo la causa e la condanna.
	18 Dunque non ti far prendere dall'ira in modo da opprimere qualcuno, e non andar fuori di strada per la gran quantità dei doni.
	19 Umilia la tua grandezza, senza esservi costretto dalla sferza, ciò che è forte e potente.
20	20 Non protrarre la notte, affinchè nel luo go di essi salgano i popoli.
21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction.	21 Guardati dall'andar verso l'iniquità, perchè cominciasti a seguirla dopo la miseria.
22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him?	22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza, e nessun dei legislatori è simile a lui.
23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"?	23 Chi potrà scrutare le sue vie? Chi può dirgli: Tu hai fatto ingiustizia?
24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song.	24 Ricordati che tu non comprendi la sua opera, dagli uomini celebrata coi canti.
25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar.	25 Tutti gli uomini lo vedono, ciascuno lo mira da lungi.
26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out.	26 Ecco, Dio è grande e sorpassa ogni nostra scienza, il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile.
27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists,	27 Egli distacca le stille della pioggia e versa gli acquazzoni a torrenti,
28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind.	28 che erompono dalle nubi, le quali coprono tutto in alto.
	29 Egli distende quando vuole le nuvole, come la sua tenda,
30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent.	30 e di lassù manda folgori e lampi, e copre gli ultimi lidi del mare.
31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance.	31 Con questi mezzi egli giudica i popoli e dà nutrimento a gran numero di morteli.
32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark.	32 nelle sue mani nasconde la luce e le comanda di tornare di nuovo.
33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm.	33 Egli fa capire a chi lo ama che essa è in suo dominio e che ad essa può salire ».
