1 Elihu proceeded further and said:	1 - Proseguendo poi Eliu, disse:
2 Wait yet a little and I will instruct you, for there are still words to be said on God's behalf.	2 «Aspettami un poco e ti ammaestrerò, giacchè ho ancora altre cose da dire in favor di Dio.
3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right.	3 Riprenderò le mie cognizioni da principio, e proverò che il mio creatore è giusto:
4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you.	4 poichè certamente senza menzogna sono i miei detti, e una scienza perfetta ti piacerà.
5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked.	5 Dio non rigetta i potenti, essendo egli pure potente;
6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed,	6 ma gli empii egli non salva, e ai poverelli accorda il diritto:
7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever.	7 non distoglie dal giusto gli occhi suoiegli che pone i re sul trono in perpetuo, sì che vengano esaltati.
8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction,	8 Ma se sono avvinti in catene, e astretti dai legami della miseria,
9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride.	9 allora egli mostra ad essi il loro agire, e i loro delitti, quanto furon crudeli:
10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil.	10 apre ancora il loro orecchio all'ammonizione, ed esorta che si convertano dal male.
11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness.	11 Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, finiscono i loro giorni nella felicitàe gli anni loro nella gloria;
12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge.	12 se invece non ascoltano, saranno passati a fil di spada, e periranno nella stoltezza.
13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them;	13 Gl'ipocriti e gli astuti provocano l'ira di Dio, e non innalzano grida quando egli l'incatena;
14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate.	14 morirà precocemente l'anima loro, e la loro vita finirà fra gl'impuri.
15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress.	15 Egli salva il povero dalla sua angustia, e ammonisce il suo orecchio per mezzo della tribolazione.
	16 Perciò egli ti salverà dalle fauci della distretta; l'ampiezza e non la strettezza sarà il tuo luogo, e riposerai alla tua mensa ricolma di grasse vivande.
	17 La causa tua è stata giudicata come di empio, e riceverai [su te] la causa e la sentenza.
	18 Non ti vinca dunque l'ira, sì che tu opprima qualcuno, nè i molti donativi ti faccian declinare.
	19 Sorge forse il tuo grido senza l'angustia, e senza tutti gli strapazzi della violenza?
20	20 Non potrarre la notte....affinchè ascendano i popoli per essi.
21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction.	21 Bada dal piegare verso l'iniquità, poichè questa tu cominciasti a seguire dopo l'afflizione.
22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him?	22 Ecco Dio è eccelso nella sua fortezza, e nessuno è a lui somigliante fra i legislatori.
23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"?	23 Chi potrà scrutare le sue vie? o chi potrà dirgli: - Hai operato cosa iniqua? -
24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song.	24 Ricordati di magnificare l'operato di lui, che gli uomini celebrano in canto.
25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar.	25 Tutti gli uomini lo vedono, ciascuno lo scorge da lontano.
26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out.	26 Ecco, Dio è grande, vince la nostra scienza, il numero degli anni suoi non si computa.
27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists,	27 Egli distacca le gocce della pioggia, ed effonde le piogge a guisa di torrenti:
28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind.	28 le quali profluiscono dalle nubi, che ricoprono ogni cosa al disopra.
	29 Se egli vuole estendere le nubi, quale suo padiglione,
30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent.	30 e far brillare la sua luce al disopra, pur le radici del mare egli ricopre.
31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance.	31 Per mezzo di tali cose egli giudica i popoli, e appresta cibo a numerose genti.
32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark.	32 Nelle sue mani egli asconde la luce, e le comanda di tornar di nuovo;
33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm.	33 di lui dà annunzio il suo tuono, [di lui] che effonde l'ira sua sull'iniquità.
